Dumb question, but I haven't been able to find an answer. Is it possible to run like, 20 laps in practice, then stop, go into the garage, make a setup change like spring rate or something, and then get back in the car and have it have the same 20 lap old tires on it, rather than fresh tires?

I don't think so, every time you go from garage to track the car gets new tires.

Being able to heat-cycle/scuff in tires and put old ones on kinda requires having a decent tire model in the first place. Week 13 starts next monday.

Upcoming patch change, I am sure this will be put to good use.quote:- "Vehicle Damage" is now a toggleable option when creating Hosted Sessions and Test Sessions via the "Car Options" dropdown. If we have enough people we should do a "team" event. The fastest drivers are paired with the slowest drivers. So 1st will be paired with N, 2nd with (N-1), etc. Points are the sum of each drivers finishing points. Then either two things: A 15 minute normal race, then a 10 minute reverse grid. Sum of both races. OR Set the full limit to the minimum the miata can go. Require a mandatory pitstop and driver change. See where each team ends up.

I got a wheel autumn of last year, did three weeks with it and got out of rookies and decided to get the discounted full year's sub from the Black Friday sale. Of course I didn't touch iRacing again until today, when I decided I'd gooncar tonight. So I dig out my wheel, load up the track and I can't even shift gears. I turn on auto-blip and that's even more confusing because I was used to doing it myself in the rookie series, having actually raced at Okayama. I despair, give up after twenty five minutes, and quit out. Do some googling and it turns out I loaded up the wrong Mazda. In other words, I'm ready for gooncar. Whoa, the new version of iracing got nvidia SPS https://developer.nvidia.com/vrworks/graphics/singlepassstereo Its apparently really good https://www.reddit.com/r/iRacing/comments/axlucw/vr_sps_now_enabled/ This is a big deal for VR folks, you can crank up the settings and/or keep more cars visible

The Skippy race thats on right now is hilariously good. 2nd gear all the way pretty much on Charlotte We are also in a great honeymoon period where at least half the grid isnt used to the new tire model, so they'll wipe out off track and you can make easy positions. I got on the mic while gridding up last night and reminded folks to remember the NTM and at least 3 people piped up with "whats that". Also that nvidia SPS upgrade in VR is legit. I was able to crank up a bunch of stuff with no performance hit.

It’s good because rather than having crazy lap 1 traction like they used to and then making mid corner pileups, they just harmlessly slide off the track, allowing you to pass. Everyone was even saying “3 laps on this track before the tires are hot” and it still happened.

Yeah, 3 laps is what I found too. I wonder if/how much you can offset that by increasing cold pressure on they are up to pressure for a quali lap, like people do in real life.
