Thanks for playing Alone in the dark 2.

Now please fuck off
I knew all about the chocolate industry so I almost skipped the segment, I'm glad I didn't, if I did I wouldn't know about Tony's, I've seen that chocolate around but never knew what they where about.

I know, I know, there's no ethical consumption under capitalism and all that, but you can at least try to do your best.

I had read the label once on some of that Tony's chocolate. I mean, the packaging is pretty distinctive, so it got my attention, and it was talking about slavery-free chocolate sources, and that led me down a rabbit hole of resear-- ... no, you know what? It led me down a human hole of research. Every time we talk about going down a long tunnel that only seems to get deeper the further you go, we call it a rabbit hole. I say, when that tunnel is through poo poo that only smells worse the further you go, that's a human hole. Because only humans do this.

Anyway, at first, when I'd read the label, I jokingly told my wife, "Hey, it's not blood chocolate like that Hershey's over there!" Then I did a lot of reading on the subject, and that's how I found out that chocolate is basically diamonds, except less crunchy, and I felt bad about the joke. But, I didn't know the depths to which slavery and conflict was involved until this episode. I mean, wow.

I also didn't know that most of the chocolate comes from those two countries in Africa. That just seems like a bad manufacturing and distribution model. We... we ought to do something about that.

The results of the NZ Bird Of The Century poll have been announced: here's a youtube link

I won't spoil the result here but apparently there were over 350,000 verified votes from nearly 200 countries (and tens of thousands of fraudulent votes) and the previous voting record was 57,000 votes so you can guess where this is going :v:

That last segment about Dollar Stores was dead on. My local one is a complete poo poo show with the aisles just crammed with boxes and overloaded carts. It's one big gently caress you to the American with Disabilities Act. No one in a wheelchair would make it 6 feet past the entrance.

I think two employees is the max I've ever seen in the store, but at times I've picked up items , paid via self-checkout and left without seeing any employees.

This was answered in this week’s Hey! EW on YouTube. Adam Copeland agreed to be in the movie script unseen because he and his mom were a huge huge Fraser fans and would always watch it after her chemotherapy.

You can't just wake up and become Clarence Thomas, though, you only get there with a lifetime of hypocrisy and equivocation, and so you've convinced yourself that what you're doing is Right and more important than money (but you're certainly not going to turn DOWN money if it comes your way)

Absolutely epic. The fact is that Thomas is going to be under heavy scrutiny from here on out. He's not going to be able to continue accepting these crazy gifts.....which makes JOs offer that much more legitimate....imo. He's offering him a fairly lavish lifestyle for the remainder of his life.....and all he has to do is basically announce that he's a corrupt, unprincipled hack. Just beautifully done.

There's no mechanism to stop him short of impeachment and that's never going to happen. He's going to keep doing it.

True.....impeachment is unlikely. But it's not like it's going to gain less support over time. These stories aren't going away.....and it's a terrible look. I'd like to think at some point the blatancy of what he's doing will force some hands.
