It looks like the Yamaha has no punch out of the corners, and then no top end as comparison to the other factory bikes. Hell even if Yamaha can't match the Honda, can they get near the Ducati.

Is that a question? Because if it is, the answer is "lol, no." And wasn't Ducati beating Honda down the straight in Qatar? Am I misremembering that?

They were, the situation as it stands is that Honda and Ducati have about 20kmh advantage on the straights over the other bikes, top speeds are similar but the Ducati still accelerates harder in the middle gears and doesn't need a draft to overtake the Honda.

Iirc the Suzuki outguns the Yamaha on the straights now, only the Aprilia is slower.

And the ktm! Maybe? I don't know. I'm just sad about Zarco not whipping through the field this year.

I really would have thought yamaha would have gotten their act together and put together a better bike and/or electronic package this year after the last few years.

The KTM is on a par with the Honda if you look at the trap speeds, it just sucks at the turns. Their engine is meant to be pretty good. Also worth remembering the field is so close now, KTM are only like half a second behind.

I thought they were doing long lap penalties? Why did Crutchlow have to go through pitlane?

I wouldn't be surprised if specific violations have specific penalties, though I felt that specific penalty was BS because if it was a false start, it was so minute.

They got the ruling right. People on Twitter on are complaining that Crutchlow didn't gain an advantage, which is true, but race officials are only granted any discretion if the questionable movement comes to an end before the lights go out. Had Crutchlow finished his innocent adjustment even a fraction of a second before the lights turned off, he would've had a case for clemency.

A ride-through is obviously an overly harsh penalty for what happened, but that just means the rules need to be refined.

Crutchlow should be grateful he got that penalty. It stopped him from overriding and crashing per usual. :colbert:

If anything he should be thankful it gives him another excuse to partake in his favourite hobby: waxing lyrical about he could totally have won the race/finished on the podium if x hadn't happened.

He had a pretty good start didn't he? Since the long lap is brand new I don't think they've had the time to go back and revise some of the ride through penalties.

It seems like this foul would be a good fit for the long lap penalty. A full on jump start might be best handled with a full ride through.

Edit the golden boy-whore puta from the footage of race 1 and you're left with fantastic racing. The new rules are working to even the playing field, Davies has gotten his head around the tricky pv4 (which seems to be a corner speed missile but makes even the zx10 look like a 600 for agility), sykes got to mix it up at the front too which was cool.

Race 2 was a lot like race 1. Rea is riding the tires right off the Kawasaki to get those second places. Yamaha and Lowes needs to figure out how to make the tires last a bit longer to be able to fight at the end pf the race. Sykes was fighting near the top, and dropped back by the end of the race again as well.

I haven't watched the SSP300 yet, but the SSP race was excellent with 4 riders at the front really working hard until the very end.

Interesting that the Honda is jumping chains, Two for Lorenzo this weekend and once for Marc in Argentina. If it happens to Marc in a race, todays unforced error could cost him.

I was in the Turn 12 suites when Marquez went down, which was like 50 yards away. The whole place went wild. It was keystone kops to the max watching them trying to get him moving again.

Anyone seen what happened to Lorenzo? All I've found was "mechanical problems".

EDIT: didn't catch the slide itself, sadly.

Trying to get moving again:

They’re just making Marquez angry. Pretty terrible showing by Honda, and jumping chains could be a huge issue at some point. What I’m saying is I’m very hopeful for this year but will Marquez spotting everyone 25 points change anything? No, probably not.

Very solid ride by Dovi too after such bad qualifying.

Vinales is just in I literally can’t tell if it’s you or the bike territory now. It’s obvious the Yamaha has some real issues (and has for a while now), but how much of Rossi (+0.462) vs vinales (+34.077) is just Rossi being much better and how much is riding style being different and unsuited?

Speaking of riding style, come on HRC. Get Lorenzo a new gas tank already.

E: just as a reminder, last year Marquez 321, Dovi 245, Rossi 198.
