I get my fun here. Enjoy!
Karin’s been quiet a lot lately now that I think about it. Did she suffer an emotional trauma and is still dealing with it or something? And the party hasn’t noticed?

RIP Apes. Hardly knew ye. Hardly cared.

Sleep in the briefing room.
At your own peril.
Let's be honest, Karin was only on this ride in the first place because she hoped she'd eventually get the Yuri hookup, and as I recall he effectively turned her down, so she's basically just checked out at this point. Poor Karin.

Episode CXLIII: Suddenly Susano-O

We have come this far. We may as well finish the fight. Ahead is Takamagahara -- the Plains of High Heaven where the Shinto gods chill out. This freaky dragon bridge is Amanoukihashi or the Floating Bridge of Heaven which connects the mortal realm to the gods' doorstep. There is no prep work necessary before we go forth. Everyone is equipped with their best weapons, armor, unique accessories, and a Crucifix for good measure against a final boss encounter we could have taken without touching any of the end game content. We're good to go!

But don't tell Kato that... He's trying his best as the final challenge of the game. He took extra care to make sure he was standing at preciously the right spot to have his cape billow in the wind to distant lightning strikes for maximum effect to impress Yuri and the gang when they arrive.

Can you see it? The other side of Time?
Yeah.
...Well, no. There's that big thunderstorm blocking the view. But, I'm sure it's a hell of a sight to see.

Well, then!
That's it? We're just going to go at it?
Enough words have been spoken. Let's decide this!
No, that's cool. I'm fine with it. I'm good with rambling last boss gloom and doom speeches for a lifetime.

Let's go!

Once more, the Kato intensifies. Unleashing his power demands intense stores of energy warping the very essence of time and space, lowering the resolution and bitrate in the process drawing from the technologies of the far future of 2004 movie file compression.

A great stream of energy rockets down from the heavens and surrounds Kato with three powerful allies to his cause. Such fearsome foes as...

A Jpeg of Hien doing his best Jojo's Bizarre Adventure character pose.

A vacant Y-posing Jpeg of Raiden from the model viewer.

And most importantly, from the archives of Kato's own personal spank bank -- a low-res concept art of Ouka.

Why didn't he just have the remaining Mutant Apes fight with him if he was just going to summon their souls back in the next room?
I dunno. I've stopped trying to figure out boss transformations.
Bah. This rain is making my glasses fog up.

With their powers combined, they are the sword, shield, and uhh... bling of...

Susano-O! I am going to be perfectly honest... Battling an enemy that looks like a mid-game boss fight out of Nioh or a Ninja Gaiden game in the middle of a barren, stormy field is a little bit of a final encounter downgrade from tangoing with an eldritch abomination from another galaxy atop a magical glyph in space floating over the planet that we had to get to going through an ancient aliens flying castle. Especially, when the stakes with Meta-God were will annihilate the entire planet versus... will send a swole Japanese guy with a big chin back in time to do incredibly vague time fuckery. Doubly so when we don't know the rules of time travel in this universe since it's literally never been a thing until now. We can't even get resurrection right and that seems less advanced than time travel.

NEW Music: The Three Karma ~ Decisive Battle
(It's the final battle theme. You should probably listen to it!)

The Mutant Apes are indeed joining the transformed Kato in this battle. Sort of... Each is its own entity. Hien has become the Kusanagi Sword a Non-Elemental class enemy with 1590 HP. I'll just save us some time and say all four enemies are Non-Elemental class. The Kusanagi is one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Imperial Japan. I'm not getting into the etymology of these. They are a ton of Japanese-related media. It's a rad mythological sword. Go play Ōkami or something. Just because it's a really good game. A rundown of Japanese mythology is just a nice bonus.

Ouka has been transmogrified into the Yasakani Gem with 1250 HP. The Yasakani no Magatama is where that hook-shaped gem that appears all over in Japanese business (like Yuri's Malice build-up detecting necklace.)

Meanwhile, Raiden has become the Yata Mirror. Which doesn't seem the most fitting form for a big bruiser like that guy. But what do I know? The Yata Mirror also has 1250 HP.

Finally, Kato has become Susano-O the Japanese god of storms. He boasts the highest HP of any enemy in the game at an even 10,000 HP -- the only baddie to make it to five digits of health. Impressive glow-up, Kato. I find it a little bit disappointing that the game never lets us fight any of the major human villains in, you, a human form before they get an upgrade into a monster mash. That massive chin of Kato's goes unpunched. It's nearly criminal.

Now to the actual mechanics of the fight!

The Yasakani Gem only has one offensive spell in Fearsome Thunder which hits a single character for exactly 100 HP of damage. Technically, it hits them for 1 HP of damage 100 times. But who's counting? The transformed Ouka's true role is the healer support unit and debuffer. Namely, it has the spells Supreme Divinity which heals all enemies for around a quarter of their maximum HP. It can also cast Profound Purity to negate our party's suite of buffs applied and that sucks. I like having those buffs. They make us punch better.

Needless to say, we want to smash this thing ASAP and can easily do so in an opening Combo laser targeted against it. Sorry, Kato. Your girlfriend has to die a third time. That's rough, buddy.

The Yata Mirror also only has only one offensive ability in Frenzied Surge which hits the entire party for moderate but none too impressive damage.

Its real role is as the designated enemy party buffer. It has Spirit Grace/Aegis which bolsters Special Attack/Defense power respectively. Ecstatic Grace/Aegis does the same for Physical Attack Power. And Tempest Grace/Aegis which increases Action Speed and Evasion Speed depending on the flavor.

The Yata Mirror should be our second priority in crushing in this fight. Enemy buffs are not great, to a 30% difference in either direction is not earth-shattering.

As for the Kusanagi Sword? Umm... it just flies over and takes swings at a single target. That's it. No special jazz. No magic attacks. It's a sword. It does what a sword does. What more do you want out of a flying giant sword? Hien was not a complicated man. He had giant blades coming out of his elbows. As such, the Kusanagi Sword can be ignored for last.

Finally, Susano-O is 100% on the offensive. It has the [Silver/Azure/Black/Ancient/Infernal/Twilight] Howl series of attacks. One for each element that is appropriately colored. It basically just coughs up a flaming elemental fireball. It's kind of gross, honestly. I would think Kato would have more honorable manners in matters of combat. The Howl attacks are a very small AOE attack and hit for the 250 HP ballpark of damage. Tack on an extra 100 HP to that value if it hits the elemental weakness of the target.

Susano-O should be our final target after we defeat his minions. He can't get cheeky and resurrect them or anything. Once one of the Mutant Apes Sacred Treasures is done they're done for good. However, technically... Susano-O is the top priority target because it's the only one that actually matters. If you completely ignore Kato's support staff and defeat Susano-O, the battle is over. We don't actually have to kill the lesser bosses.

But... we do want to take the three Sacred Treasures out fairly quickly and not let them linger on the battlefield due to the big gimmick of the fight. After everyone gets two turns...

Everyone on the enemy side will combine with Susano-O to begin a Combo attack against our party. The Kusanagi Sword, Yata Mirror, and Yasanaki Gem can no longer be targeted. Susan-O only remains. This does not actually buff Susan-O in any way as far as its speed or damage taken is concerned. But it IS fixing to push our poo poo in on its next turn. Especially, if we were negligent enough to let all three Sacred Treasures remain in play.

The Kusanagi Sword gets a real attack in Extinguishing Blade which hits the entire party for around 100-120 HP of damage. The other two will both unleash their offensive magic skills in turn immediately after that. And since this is a Combo, even if they're all one entity and that seems like cheating, they are racking up bonus damage for this.

After the Sacred Treasure gets their licks in, Susano-O will unleash its ultimate attack, Final Revelation. This just rains a devastating flurry of fireballs down upon the party. Hey! That's Vegeta's move! And for once it will actually completely gently caress up someone's day instead of the smoke clearing and they're completely fine like every other instance in history.

After Final Revelation, the Sacred Treasure Mutant Apes will disengage from their master and the battle returns to normal. In all, letting all four bosses get to participate in the team-up Combo with Susano-O did 600+ HP of damage to the entire party. Except for Karin, who got sent to the Shadow Realm with over 1000 HP of damage since she got hit with Yasakani Gem's Fearsome Thunder. Remember how I said it technically hit for 1 HP but 100 times? Yeah, stick that in the middle of a Combo and that caused a +484 HP damage boost on top of the base damage. I can't believe Karin Koenig is loving DEAD!

That's about it for the final boss of Shadow Hearts: Covenant. One final note, you know those Fifth and Seventh Keys you've likely been hoarding for a rainy day? I'm just saying, there might never be a better day to use 'em.

The game at least has some class and just fades to white without a victory celebration or Level Up screen. That'd be rather disrespectful putting down Kato like that and then having Karin remark to stop looking at her tits or Joachim talking about the next week's episode of his fake anime series.

Kato... is having a rough day...

Dang. We bopped him so hard his cape is embedded into the ground.
Seriously.
C'mon, guys. Not now...

Yuri bends over and lifts the dying Kato up.

Kato...
Ugh... It's good... that it ended... this way...

Soon Takamagahara and the vessel will disappear within the time warp.
......

Once you've set foot here, you can't return to the present.
<looks around> Yeah. It looks that way.
I don't even remember which direction we came from... There's a point of no return and then there's this.
You must pray...
Huh?

Pray... as hard as you can... for the world... the world you want.
The world I want?
Yes... The best... one... you can... imagine...
Is... that... that's really vague, Kato. How were you going to do this if we didn't stop you...?
I... do not... really know... how... this works... I... was... driven by grief... and was... really winging... it... Why... did you think... I was... still here... waiting... for months...?
Frick... That makes a lot of sense now.

Uuugh...

Kato closes his eyes.

H-Hey!
Then... you can... return...
P-Probably... I pray... that you... do...
Kato.

Thank you... my friend...

And so Kato passes away. Hopefully, he'll find Yoshiko Kawashima in the afterlife. And the sexed-up clone he made of her. And have a very awkward-rear end afterlife conversation as to what the gently caress, guy.

......

Kato gets the dignified evaporating into sparkles upon death that Albert Simon got. Given Yuri's history, this means it'll be around two to three months before his ghost ends up chilling on some couch in Yuri's soul.

Yuri!

So umm... that's sad and all... But did he mention... umm...
How the heck we get out of here?
Leaving seems smart and that's coming from me.
Indeed.
Mhm.
Awroo. Awroo... (I could hear them. We're screwed...)

Come on, now! Let's pray! For a better world to return to! We can do it if we really try!

<nods> Yes.
<nods> Uh-huh!
<nods> Mhm.
<slowly nods>
Hmm!
Uh-umm...
Awroo!

Poor Kato. At least he didn't get killed in a single round of punches by Yuri. Maybe he should have just retired after making a weird clone of his waifu and two other random dudes. Or before that. I don't think anything could have dissuaded him from this course once he went for it. The two possible outcomes were success or suicide by Yuri Hyuga and both were perfectly fine by him. RIP Kato, go and have your really awkward talk with your crush and the... enhanced version of her you made to stay the grief.

That would require Kato wanting to do more to change history than bring back his dead lover. And that would require going more into the causes and effects of World War 1 than the game does.

Well. Guess I'll die.
No, Gepetto. I mean you need to envision somewhere and pray to end up there. In a literal sense! It's magic crap! I didn't suddenly find religion!
The only thing I pray for is the further strengthening of my muscles.
Yeah, sure! Do that! I don't know!

Jumping Jehoshaphat!
Am I being raptured...?

<smiles and nods>
It's been a good run, kid. But I am going to hit the next bar I see and drink until I forget the last year.
That's fair.

<smiles and nods> Hmm!
I could do a flying summersault splash of tremendous strength from this height.

Yeah, I bet you could, buddy...

<waves and chuckles>
I've got nothing good to say. Good-bye!
You never did.

<pants and quietly whimpers>

Blanca, you were always the best boy!

Well... I guess this is my life now...
It sure is!

Y-Yeah... Good luck with that, buddy. Take care, rugrat.
Oh, I'll take care of him!
I don't want to hear about this.
So long...

And that's the party swept up into a vague rapturing into the streams of time or... something like that...

Which just leaves Karin and Yuri to get sorted out here at the end of time circa 1915...

Yuri's chest starts glowing.

<gasp>
Looks like time's up. It's the Mistletoe's curse.
Oh god... We never did get around to fixing that... did we?
Nope. It's fine. It happens...

I knew I was living on borrowed time...
The curse waiting until three minutes after we defeated Kato and saved the world is maybe a little too on the nose. But, that's just kind of how these things tend to roll.

Are you scared?
<shakes head> No.
Will... you lose your memories too?
Never.

<walks forward> Yuri...

Don't look at me like that. I'll see you soon.

Please promise me. I... don't want to lose you forever...
<nods and smiles> Yeah.

It's now Karin's time to get raptured to points unknown as this Japanese space-time anomaly runs entirely on dramatically appropriate mechanics.

Karin!
What?

<tears up> Thank you!!

<smiles and nods>

<stares at hand> ......
......
...That was a nice goodbye. I'll keep it to myself it was completely undercut on my end seeing directly up her skirt one last time. Heh. One last ridiculous moment for my dumb life.

I'll see you all again someday.

The adventure is over. I've lost a lot. In the end, was it really worth it? Will the new future be any better? Anyway, my story is over... I can feel it... the Mistletoe is finally stealing away my soul. Even if I can go back to my friends, I won't really be me anymore. But then again, if it means I'll be able to live the rest of my life in peace...

I guess I couldn't ask for any more...

NEW Music: Love Moon Flower ~ Ending
(You should probably listen to the ending theme.)

A miracle generated from the disappearing gap
Guiding everyone's heart to the place they belong

But all that I can do is to leave quietly
I will be guarding you,
Like the Moon, shining in the dark night.

The deep thoughts about you, the kind of bond that you've wanted
If I can use my hands to create light, I will...

I've been longing to meet you
Just like people love the morning,
When they wake up

Smile for the happiness of being able to live together
If we can feel the same breeze,
I will...

Ah even if I cannot touch your heart
It doesn't matter which kind of love,
Or if I can stay with you

The separated ones go beyond time and space and get together again

Ah because of you, I will keep waiting because of you
This is the thought that fills my heart

Ah when will we be able to live happily
Now I only want to quietly close my eyes

Because we will meet again

Gepetto was found passed out drunk in a public park in a Parisian suburb with a young child and a trunk full of assorted dresses deemed scandalous in nature. He was taken into custody by local authorities soon after. The child has been placed into protective care until her identity can be confirmed. Gepetto is currently awaiting a bail hearing in a jailhouse outside Montmartre.

Princess Anastasia Romanov remained in Japan with her true love Kurando Inugami. This would allow her to avoid the execution the rest of her family would suffer by Bolshevik revolutionaries in the following years.
Kurando and Anastasia's descendant would go on to become a popular VTuber over a century later.

Joachim Valentine went on to become a legendary champion of wrestling circles. He would eventually immigrate to Rio de Janeiro to spread his talents to new audiences. Years after that, he would turn to the United States and establish a modest but popular professional wrestling circuit in New Mexico. But due to lack of business management skill and membership, it would go on to be absorbed by an ambitious evil businessman from North Carolina whose villainy even Joachim could not thwart. Some say Joachim still remains competitive in wrestling circles under a new identity after this disgrace to this day...

Lucia returned to Florence.

Awroo, awroo. Awroo, awroo... (The adventure over, Blanca went to live with the amicable Kawashima family who gave him pets and treats asking for little in return. Blanca enjoyed the rest of his days in this pleasant, mellow life after his travels with the disaster cursed hobo that forced him into dog fights, demonic battles, and dancing...)

So... Karin does get an actual full epilogue and not just an illustration. But, for LP purposes we are going to save that for the second ending. The actual post-credits epilogue of the fate of Yuri is the main determinate factor of the two endings. There is no canon ending this go around since... they didn't make a continuation of Shadow Hearts with Yuri. The third game is its own thing with a new cast and the most tenuous of connections. This is the end of Yuri Hyuga's story. Just as he said. So, you can pick which ending you think he should get. I don't pick this one. This is the objective bad ending and not in the it'd be OK to continue from here sort of way.

Music: ENDS

It was unclear if anyone actually did any time fuckery praying the Takamagahara away. Gepetto seems to be back when his daughter was alive since the Cornelia in his ending illustration doesn't have doll joints. Everyone else just kind of went back home. Karin... we'll get to.

But, Yuri... skipped a few years, here... And ended up one final time in the series back in the most cursed land of all of Shadow Hearts and Koudelka...

Yuri?!
......

I never thought I'd find you in a place like this... I've been looking all over for you.
That's no easy task. They're calling the last few years The Great War. It wasn't great!

Yuri? Who are you?

......

<starts crying>

Roger Bacon runs over, hugs Yuri, and continues to cry.

<sobs>
...... <pushes Roger off him>

You don't even remember your own father? Such a foolish son.
......
...My father?
<nods>

Roger puts his hand on Yuri's back and leads him away.

Well, let's go home now. It's cold out...

Well, World War I ended at least. And so did Yuri Hyuga's character now that he's reset to factory stock Rude Hero Dull Guy. That's not the best conclusion for Yuri Hyuga's story. Maybe we can do better next time as Shadow Hearts 2: Covenant concludes.

There's only one final update left and it would be pretty lame to end it with a Library entry. So we'll do the final bestiary look here before wrapping up the LP.

Monsters:

He could slash things well. Probably. He fought for about six minutes the entire 60-hour game.

Raiden, the very slow and soft-spoken giant guy? That wild spirit?

Actually resurrecting someone is not feasible but Kato managed to actually craft a new soul doing horny magic tinkering? That's kind of impressive.

Kato: I will correct history's course with my own will and strength.
Also Kato: Oh, poo poo Yuri and his friends are here and I haven't figured out time travel. Please fuse with me, high ranking Japanese deity. He's going to kick my rear end!

In all, there a 175 Monster entries in the Library with Susano-O being the last one. There were 53 Character entries and Malkovich was the last one of those. Which is appropriate because it's the easiest to completely miss.

Music: Deep Meditation ~ Title

As a final completionist sake there is a New Game Plus of Shadow Hearts: Covenant. It does not raise the difficulty or anything but a multitude of things will carry over such as:
  • All entries in the Library.
  • All Fusions obtained (but not their levels) for both Kurando and Yuri.
  • Cornelia's dresses.
  • Anastasia's Photo Album entries.
  • Magic Crests obtained.
  • Stud Cards obtained just in case you want to oogle beefcakes.
  • Female characters' bonus costumes.
  • Stats from the Score menu from the previous playthrough to compare and contrast.

Levels, items, Cash all get reset to zero. There is exactly one new thing to unlock in New Game Plus. Carrying over from the first Shadow Hearts, if the player gets a complete Library by beginning New Game Plus they can obtain a Black Underpants accessory. Thomas will hand it over at Gerome Valley on the replay. Allegedly. I'm not checking and don't care. You can look up the details yourself. It's the same as the White Underpants but it changes Karin's panties black. Can I just get an accessory that gives Karin pants? I've seen up her skirt unintentionally more times than loving 2B. 2B!

Additionally, the game unlocks a Theater mode to watch all the major voiced cutscenes. Oh, poo poo. The game actually had proper chapter breaks and titles. I probably would have used those for the LP had I known that since they... only show up here. Well, for reference sake after hindsight is useless to us, according to the game the proper chapters are:
  • Chapter 1 - The Demon of Domremy: The intro up until the beginning of the Ardennes Forest dungeon.
  • Chapter 2 - The Deep, Dark Forest: Ardennes Forest's events.
  • Chapter 3 - Is Paris Burning?: All the poo poo in Paris up until fighting Veronica's first monster of the week before escaping to the World Map.
  • Chapter 4 - The Bandit of Le Harve: Everything in Le Harve with Joachim and the Wine Cellar up to sailing to the UK.
  • Chapter 5 - A Reunion: The Port of Southampton up until Wales and learning about Sapientes Gladio from "Thomas."
  • Chapter 6 - The Rose of Florence: Florence and meeting Lucia up until the Sapientes Gladio Italian Branch HQ and learning the Émigré Document is important again.
  • Chapter 7 - Magician in an Iron Mask: The Neam Ruins getting the Émigré Document all the way up to rescuing Roger Bacon, learning Rasputin is a gently caress and getting on the Bacon Jet to fly to Russia.
  • Chapter 8 - The Twilight of Russia: Anastasia loving around town up until she joins the party.
  • Chapter 9 - The Mad Monk Rasputin: Everything with Rasputin being a dick in the Winter Palace.
  • Chapter 10 - Following His Footsteps: Gerome Valley and the Mirror Palace up to getting Amon from Albert Simon.
  • Chapter 11 - I Summon You: All the poo poo that goes down in Petrograd up to Yuri punching Rasputin so hard it blows up an airship and Rasputin summons Idar Flamme.
  • Chapter 12 - A Sudden Turn of Events: Idar Flamme up until the end of Disc 1,
  • Chapter 13 - The Far-eastern Empire: Disc 2's beginning up until the end of Battleship Mikasa and rescuing Yoshiko Kawashima 2.0.
  • Chapter 14 - The Two Yoshikos: Ouka's intro up until the first fight with Baby Head in the Foreigner's Cemetery pocket dimension.
  • Chapter 15 - The Birth of Shoki: Shocking Nicolai's balls with science to make a dog turn into a demon and dealing with that demon dog alongside the Mutant Apes.
  • Chapter 16 - Resurrecting a Demon: Hojo's Lab poo poo where Astaroth possessed Nicolai up until killing Hojo in that goofy Dr. Robotnik mecha.
  • Chapter 17 - The Holy Mirror: The trip to Inugami Village up to fighting Giant Lady Saki Inugami.
  • Chapter 18 - Death to Dreams: Everything that goes down in the Immortal Mountain dungeon ending on Ouka's death and Kato popping Nicolai's head like a grape.
  • Chapter 19 - A Vessel for Her Soul: The resurrecting Alice Elliot with the Émigré Document bad idea zone.
  • Chapter 20 - Going Back in Time: hosed it up resurrecting Alice up until the end of the game.
  • Chapter 21 - Happiness: The endings.
  • Chapter 22 - Now and Then: All the optional End Game business like getting Alice's Cross, The Man Festival, Neo Amon, Kurando's 2nd Fusion, and fighting Jinpachiro.

On further review... I'm fine with breaking it up by location... That's some nonsense breakpoints that would have a single update and then twenty-five for another breakpoint.

In any event, this is our final Score. As it turns out, it's a 20 rank jump beating the game which makes a lot of the ranks fairly pointless. We end up as the super boss, for lack of a better term, Solomon. For reference, the top rank is Dark Seraphim.

And our final Battle Data rap.

I hit the buttons pretty good considering I was drinking most times I recorded gameplay. Congrats to Rude Hero, Upskirt, Best Boy, Man Festival Champ, and Russian Princess on the top five battle participants. Kurando... I'm disappointed in you...

Video: Shadow Hearts Covenant Ending 1
(It's the ending! Go watch the ending!)

Well, that's a end of Shadow Hearts 2. But don't go anywhere! We could do better here. We could get to the world we desired... There's still one last prayer... One last Shadow Hearts.

It's okay if you have any questions.

I forgot how little substance there is to the ending besides the epilogues for Yuri and Karin. Almost like the devs knew you'd just want to get it over with by now....

They also could have been leaving it open enough for sequel cameos.

I get my fun here. Enjoy!
As it turned out, only Joachim came back in Shadow Hearts 3, and what he did there was horrible IMO. More so than this ending. I look forward to the better one.

Music: Deep Meditation ~ Title

Let's try this. Once more. With feeling. This is it. The final LP update.

As stated earlier... this decision determines the ending of the game. That's it.

The final dialog with Jeanne of Domremy does not change at all in regards to the choice.

In fact...

Nothing changes up until past the point Kato kicks the bucket. But, in regards to this Susano-O jerk Kato has submitted to for power...

NEW Music: Come On ~ Decisive Battle Runs Wild
(The Berserk version of the final boss theme.)

Hey, do you remember the Eternal Key we picked up in the Neam Ruins revisit for Anastasia's personal quest? Do you see that description there? It's a little bit poorly worded. But as long as we can continuously hit the Judgment Ring Hit Spots it will continue to do the action we selected. The Third, Fifth, and Seventh Ring also have that functionality. But Eternal...

See, here's the thing in this game. The <Number> Ring items are of an increasingly fast-spinning rate to the point of absurdity. But there are the Judgment Ring settings I went into early in the game in the mechanics chat. Particularly, there is the Gambling Ring setting. Which nixes all the multiple Judgment Ring Hit Areas in favor of one incredibly small singular area that will automatically do all the Hit Areas if we get that pixel-perfect roughly 1/10th of a second point on the Judgment Ring afforded. You see... the thing is that the rules of if you hit that hairpin timing, all further Judgment Ring Hits are automatically done... It extends to all the <Number> Ring items...

It also extends to the Eternal Ring item. Which will continue as many times as the Judgment Ring Hit Area is activated. Which is now forever. And as I said previously, we really only need to defeat Susano-O to end this fight, so... For one last hurrah... Do you know what happens when you have to redo the final boss of an LP that has taken multiple years to finish? You don't gently caress around!

(Who wants to see Yuri punches out a god in a single turn? Again!)

Music: ICARO Piano Arrangement ~ Main Theme

From this point onward...

Everything progresses exactly the same up until the point Yuri and Karin say their goodbyes. And Karin flashes Yuri with her panties one last time. As you do. Now let's make it weird! We now are in the other ending territory.

Sorry. I can't keep that promise...

I know why you stayed there alone. You were afraid to lose yourself. You realized the only way to protect your soul and your memories was to die. The times you spent with your friends. Your feelings for the friend you fought. All of your experiences to this point... All that is what made you what you are, made you into the man you are today. Yes. The man I know.

The man I love...

Music: ENDS

Now you don't have to suffer anymore. You don't have to be alone anymore.

I'll always be right here by your side.

Now we'll be together... forever...

Music: Love Moon Flower ~ Ending

A miracle generated from the disappearing gap
Guiding everyone's heart to the place they belong

But all that I can do is to leave quietly
I will be guarding you,
Like the Moon, shining in the dark night.

The deep thoughts about you, the kind of bond that you've wanted
If I can use my hands to create light, I will...

I've been longing to meet you
Just like people love the morning,
When they wake up

Smile for the happiness of being able to live together
If we can feel the same breeze,
I will...

Ah even if I cannot touch your heart
It doesn't matter which kind of love,
Or if I can stay with you

The separated ones go beyond time and space and get together again

Ah because of you, I will keep waiting because of you
This is the thought that fills my heart

Ah when will we be able to live happily
Now I only want to quietly close my eyes

Because we will meet again

Music: ENDS

This epilogue appears regardless of the ending. So... what the hell happened to Karin Koenig...? The answer may surprise you make you go "What the actual gently caress?!"

Doo-dooh-doo. What a long day. Why is Ishimura getting to be such a dick the last few weeks? He just sits on that couch and talks about robots with that weird baby head guy...

<marches along> And what's with all the magic and wizards lately, anyway?

Something catches Jinpachiro Hyuga's eye on the side of the road.

?!

Uhhhhhhh...?! UMM?!

Umm... Ma'am, are you OK? Were you attacked? This is strange... There aren't usually ladies of the night in this district...

......
<looks to the ground> Huh?

Jinpachiro picks up and examines the photo.

......

......?
...That? What? But...

Colonel Hyuga flips the photo over.

Huh?!

Nggh...
WHAT THE FFFFFU—

Yeah, so umm... It's a good thing Yuri was still hung up on Alice because Karin that was his loving mother Anne Hyuga! Who ultimately goes on to get backhanded by a zombie so hard it kills her, awakening Yuri's powers to become the himbo Rude Hero so Karin will one day get horny for her son and setting it up to fall for for his father after she gets time traveled back in time a few decades. Yuri is a weird Ontological Paradox. It's fine! And I guess Saki Inugami knew that, too...?! And just let it ride. OK... But, we're not done yet... One last thing. What about Yuri in the world where he lives life his own way...?

Gah!

Whoa! That's bad. I almost overslept!
I do NOT need that voice yelling at me in my head again.

Yuri looks around and hears a train whistle in the distance.

It'll be here soon...

<shakes and scratches head before walking off>

It's the world you secretly prayed for. The place your heart returns to. The time when you were the happiest. You can start your life over again...

......

A train whistle in the distance grows closer.

It's that train...

OLD Music: NDE - Near Death Experience

Video: Shadow Hearts: Covenant Ending 2
(It's the end of the series. Watch it.)

And that is it! The last LP update! Shadow Hearts: Covenant is finished! I can die without regrets. The cursed LP that took me some of the worst years of my life is over. But gently caress you fate and destiny and that bollocks. I'll finish Yuri Hyuga's shitpost adventures through the early 1900s LP and see it through to the end. And in the end, we have come to one last wildly uneven mess of a game that is still just splendid in how much it went for it being its own goofy-rear end bizarre thing. There's not enough of that anymore.

I am sorry it took so long to get to this point. It's not been an easy few years for me. Lose a kid. Have a hand stop working particularly functionally and actually bust your rear end in a thing that requires you to sit and type. And, you know, everything during the ongoing pandemic. Not a great series of events. But, we made it! The End! It finished! I managed to finish it despite everything. Despite everything, it's still me... I hope you enjoyed the journey up to this point. It's been a trial of highs and lows and absolute goddamn nonsense in-between. But I wish that you at least got some enjoyment out of the years of rambling about stupid old video games from some weird gently caress on the internet. I don't know how much gas I have left in the tank anymore. It's not a lot... Certainly nothing as long as this goddamn trainwreck. Maybe we'll have another adventure together in the future. Who the gently caress knows that even a week ahead of bad decisions will hold anymore? But if not, it's been a good one, kiddos.

In the end, I did love this poo poo.

Yeah, that ending for Karin was pretty startling. The biggest mystery- that photo never actually got taken. It was passed from Karin to Jinpachiro to Saki and back again. But they never actually took the picture.

Congrats on finishing the LP. It was enjoyable.

I (and a lot of others on the internet I guess) think of the SH timeline like this:

Shadow Hearts 'Alice Dies' Ending ->
Shadow Hearts: Covenant 'Yuri Dies and Time Travels' Ending ->
Shadow Hearts NG+ Where Yuri Saves Alice Ending ->
Shadow Hearts: From the New World

Anyway, it's been a fun ride Id.
