The combo attack descriptions remind me of Xenosaga 2's mechanics.

That is not a comparison to be happy for. So the fact this game is regarded well is a surprise. Probably because its simply a "pass/fail" check rather than "hit the enemy 6 times in a precise order when the only means of doing so is attack specific and can't be targeted manually"

It helps that the trash mobs aren't ridiculously sturdy in SH2, and combat flows a lot faster, especially once more options are unlocked.

sad thing is, you can see parts of the system where it would work if it gotten some polish - and realize they didn't because of so many lovely subsystems that don't interact with the other systems or even work against it - for example you can't have a weapon break and a weapon skill level up in the same system especially with some weapon types being rare or will break quickly.

and it continues from there.

The crest system is actually pretty fun and useful, especially with more stuff unlocks for it.

Not exactly a scholar of ancient Greek myths so I don't know how much credence to give it, but I've heard that one of the reasons given for Athena turning Arachne into a spider was the tapestry Arachne wove for their contest was all about the sexcapades of the gods. Athena was not amused.

Yeah that's in one version - the version I had specifically mentions it depicting Zeus with Europa.

The kindest version is where Arachne actually hung herself after the contest is over (either by losing, or Athena being mad and destroying her loom when she won), so Athena gave her new life as a spider out of pity.

God, I hate Karin's new clothes - the boots are fine, but the rest was clearly made for player fanservice. Like yes, there's a good reason she can't trot around in a uniform, but can't they give her something that doesn't look like it'll pop off if she breathes too deeply.

Let the woman have a pair of pants!

yeah, I'm with you there. But the outfit is a big yikes, especially given unlike Alice who is mostly going to be standing around (though her skirt's still way too short), Karin would be moving around a lot, making such a tight skirt an extremely impractical idea.

And weirdly, both Nomura and Yoshida's designs are way better in non-FF games - TWEWY actually looks stylish even if every character needs to gain a few pounds and Yoshida did Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together which looks nice, it's something about the FF that brings out - that.

And I feel like some of the 'Vaan is bad because he's made for eyecandy' is kind of a residue of resentment from certain parts of the fandom mad about the increasing amount of women getting into the series since 7 and on.

Like yeah, Vaan's story could've been made stronger, or they should've just made Ashe the protagonist, but there's definitely a huge element of hearsay and smearing going on.

I would argue the reason Nomura's design work better in TWEWY is because the whole game's setting and atmosphere suits the designs. The game takes place in Shibuya which is supposed to be a trendy hotspot for lots of stuff including fashion. I would also say the modern day setting helps it not stick out as much. The skinny artstyle looked fine and more like they were stylizing it,not trying to make them look like an actual human.

honestly yeah, just in KH/FF - Nomura's designs are utterly, utterly ridiculous and looks bad.

So, fun story, I knew and played the game Chaos Wars before Shadow Hearts. Since Chaos Wars features Shadow Hearts characters, they were my first ever experience of any of the characters. The way they chose to portray the characters is the dub was such:

https://youtu.be/BAtC1SzWSXg

Imagine my surprise when I was exposed to Shadow Hearts and found out that Yuri wasn’t called Uru and wasn’t a flaming homosexual and Karin wasn’t spelt Karen and wasn’t in a constant state of being high on Xanax.

Chaos Wars was an interesting case where they knew almost nobody's that's going to buy the game care about the dub but with policy at the time it was required, and not having time or budget, the president of the US branch literally got his family to voice every single character.
