After FtNW, I wish they had stayed a studio, as they were still making good games. But now Nautilus is scattered across multiple game devs

There’s only 1 copy of this game left on Amazon. New condition, $99.99.

Despite my gripes with Covenant, Ring Soul is one of my favorite side stories in the series. Also, I'm pretty sure TDI is cursed to play games that feature baby eating in some fashion thanks to Drakengard.

GimmickMan posted:I genuinely would have never expected to see people singing the praises of a game tutorial turned into a.... recurring mentor type character? Is that what's going to happen here? I'm not asking for spoilers, mind, I'm just thinking out loud. Or writing out where I think this goes in a forum post, I guess. I think it’s the only series I’ve encountered that turns a gameplay system into a fully-fledged character and is successful in doing so.

GimmickMan posted:Well that's a way to depower a protagonist so he doesn't start the sequel with endgame powerups I guess. Yeah, the monochrome portraits from SH1 really gave it a certain charm.

Shitenshi posted:Taro Yoko seems to be the new go-to guy for grimdark stuff, so hopefully one of these days he'll do a Gothic/real world based kind of story. Yoko Taro directing a Shadow Hearts IV would be incredible.

W.T. Fits posted:Agreed; they're also a step up from the previous game, which featured a gay acupuncturist who was implied to be molesting your male party members (one of whom was a preteen boy) while upgrading your ability to use your weapons. The Penny Arcade comic about this sidequest is one of the few times I laughed at it.

BioMe posted:I'm still yet to be even mildly amused by a single Penny Arcade no matter how many times goons post a strip that's supposed the one time they absolutely hit comedy gold This is true, too. The comic quoted is a pretty easy joke -- for me, it was picking this game up in 2004 and having something close to the mainstream even referencing or discussing this game, a sequel to a niche game which was a sequel to an even more niche game. It didn't result in SH:C selling all that well, but it was nice to see coverage in some form. Since that comic was posted, though, Penny Arcade has definitely become problematic.

Space Cadet Omoly posted:These fusions are kind of bland compared to the last game, I mean this was the level one light fusion back in the first shadow hearts: I would say none of them are as aesthetically interesting as SH1's Fusions. It's a side effect of the much, much more lighthearted tone of the game, unfortunately.

I think it would make for a decent challenge run to require that Lucia pull a Tarot card in every boss fight after she's acquired, just because of the randomness of what it can do.

Shitenshi posted:Albert Simon being a happy go lucky murderer that aided and abetted in casual citywide destruction as well as trafficking with the worst kinds of criminals and demons kind of shuts down whatever noble intentions this retcon is aiming for. Since Jovis was shut down by him and Rasputin both, I think the guy is just a bad judge of character and though he thought the guy was his friend, the feeling was in reality probably not mutual. He's lucky that he was "forsaken," worst case scenario is that he'd either end up as a sacrifice for some unsavory arcane ritual or forced as a helpless bystander to watch our dapper old arch-nemesis and Arcane Olga roam the streets, doing what they do best. Yeah, it's definitely a retcon that doesn't work on a few different levels.

ImpAtom posted:Eh, I wouldn't say that. Some of the later-game aromatherapy skills are loving bonkers. There's one particular set which is basically the biggest damage boosting potential in the game which is pretty great as a support character for a team of heavy hitters. The game isn't hard enough to need that but it isn't like Lucia doesn't have her strengths. Agreed. Late-game Aromatherapy mixes are game-breaking as gently caress. She’s basically the second most broken character after Yuri. (USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST) Ubiquitous_ fucked around with this message at 05:32 on Jan 20, 2020 |
