The thing that gets me about the teasers at the end of your recent LPs is that I don't recognize the games you're previewing. :v:

Same here. I mean, I kinda guessed it was probably going to continue the series, but ya never know...

Also the 2/Covenant title difference was a surprise. Guessing someone made a late change in development for marketing or something seeing as it's on the cover but not in-game?
Seems like the title was changed in the localization and the title screen wasn't updated to reflect that.

I stand corrected. I suppose most of that was based on Star Trek actor Walter Koenig (and I did check to see if he's actually of Russian descent - he is, though his parents changed their last name after immigrating, apparently).

Yeah, I know, right? Yuri is basically a demonic god-man by the end of Shadow Hearts 1, this is a great way to bring him back down to normal with the other adventurers.

(though I do like the explanation we get in Devil May Cry for why Dante has different weapons every game: he sells the extras to keep the lights on between adventures, haha)
Mega Man Legends 2 uses a similar explanation, except it's Roll who sells MM's weapons, without his knowledge, after taking his money to upgrade them in the first game.

Also, I find the idea of Roll as an arms dealer vaguely amusing.

Not exactly a scholar of ancient Greek myths so I don't know how much credence to give it, but I've heard that one of the reasons given for Athena turning Arachne into a spider was the tapestry Arachne wove for their contest was all about the sexcapades of the gods. Athena was not amused.
There are a bunch of versions of the myth. And the ancient Greek myths were created to support a moral framework two millennia out of tune with our modern sensibilities, so even the gods they considered "nice" are pretty assholish by today's standards.

E: Consider that by ancient Greek standards, Arachne was the villain of the myth and totally deserved her punishment for her overweening hubris of daring to compare her abilities to those of the gods.

The two Mana Khemia games had three frontliners with a total party size of six/five*. The combat system revolved around constantly rotating everyone between the active frontline and the backline, while backliners recovered HP and SP at a decent clip. Not exactly what you asked for, but it's a decent way for everyone to contribute.

*In the first game a 7th character joins in somewhat late but you still can only bring 6 people in the party, in the second game you occasionally get a guest character as 6th and in the postgame the two ateliers join up for a 10 man group, choose any six.
Likewise, Breath of Fire 4 did a similar mechanic with its backline, iirc. It has been years since I've played through that game, but you had your three-man fighting party up front, and the rest of the playable cast was in the back, which recovered HP/AP. I also seem to recall a JRPG that had an almost Marvel vs. Capcom style switching mechanic, where you could switch in a character for free and they'd get an attack when switched in.

Otherwise you're not going to find a JRPG that allows you to fight with a party size of more than, say, 5 or 6 max, because like somebody else said, as you add more actions and skillsets to a party, you decrease difficulty exponentially (or at least in a faster than linear progression).

Probably because the target audience is Japanese, and thus less likely to need the explanation than the Cyrillic characters in a Russian dungeon. And when it got to the localization team, they didn't have the ability to add the text boxes it would take to explain the characters to Western audiences (I mean, the devs couldn't even be bothered to change the characters out for the supposedly English numerals and letters on the doors), so they just fudged it.

Yeah, it's not the fact that people keep doing the same stupid poo poo with the Manuscript that's surprising, it's that the drat thing keeps existing to do dumb poo poo with. If anything was "forbidden knowledge", it's the process to resurrect the dead involving orphan sacrifices and Eldritch monstrosities. People are too dumb to handle that responsibly.
