I'm assuming for an item like this the costs of installation, maintenance, and operation are pretty loving expensive but, goddamn seriously? You could have bought 11 of these motherfuckers for a little over half of what you paid to lease a 4 of them and a bunch of lower end models, that's assuming you need all the bells and whistles too. poo poo the barebones model is barely 20K

Someone who knows about this kind of thing please tell me that operating one of these goddamn things costs like 5000 dollars a month, or some other reason why the front office staff of D.C. United are paying over half a million loving dollars to lease less than a dozen of these loving things for 5 years.

Yeah, leases on equipment like that are complete fuckjobs. We have a RISO machine at work (it doesn't have nearly that many accessories, gently caress), which we bought outright for $26k. We leased the previous version for 5 years, for around $60k. I guess the only real upside to the lease was the service package.

The ink for this bad boy is $500/color, CMYK+G. It sounds like a megafuckton of money, but if you compare it to the cost of having it professionally printed, it's a drop in the bucket.
