Maybe reddit? I don't go there because it's the scum of the internet and looks like it hasn't been redesigned since 1997, but my understanding is that any idiot can make any subforum they like and set their own rules specific to that subform. So, worst case, we just... remake BSS there? I don't fuckin' know.

Reddit is trash and the commenting system is horrible for actually having conversations since stupid jokes get upvotes, so that's the first thing everyone sees, while actual discussion lingers at the bottom.

Don't even bother with the main comics sub if you want anything but superficial conversation that would make even our largely superficial discussions look deep.

I just don't see how they are really comparable in terms of value. On the one hand you have an invisible digital collection that you maybe pirated or maybe paid super duper discount sale prices for that you can carry with you anywhere, but can't lend or display.

On the other hand, you have something physical you can hold in your hand, the creative team's work in the format it was designed to be experienced in, though I can concede that perhaps this is changing in ways I don't recognize because I don't read much contemporary hero comics.

I like going through back issue bins and used book stores and discovering stuff by synchronicity much more than shopping on Amazon or eBay; I suppose that could be a 'feels' or nostalgic thing and I can believe that my earlier point about cost/convenience of digital vs print isn't as large a factor for 'today's youth' as I thought, but still, every inexpensive tablet I've owned has not been a great comics reading device and reading on my PC or phone also sucks. When I've asked here the response always seems to be to buy a huge expensive iPad, which I would argue is out of reach of middle school kids, probably.
Kids don't give a poo poo and are happy to read on their phones. Hell, I've had arguments in here about how it sucks and was made fun for daring to suggest that comics are made to read a page (or two) at a time (I read on a big iPad Pro). That said, a lot of stuff really doesn't need the full-page experience, so stuff like Comixology's Guided View on a phone isn't really the worst thing.

I know this is just paranoia, but I swear Marvel Unlimited is stalking me. I read a giant block of books and then about a month later they add a pile of related back issues to what I've been reading. I read through the clone saga last month so now they add a ton of the early Ben Reilly as Spider-Man appearances this week. Statistically I know it has to be a coincidence; read enough back issues and give yourself a six week window and there's bound to be coincidences like them adding a bunch more appearances of a minor character you've been reading or adding more issues of a series. It's just freaky how often it happens...
Their analytics showed Clone Saga poo poo reading going up infinity percent from 0 to 1 and they had to capture that hot market, obviously.

Interesting, I just assumed it was a big comic publisher finding another way to screw him over.
No, it was explicitly his decision, and he fought to get his name removed from it.

quote:

PÓM: Afterwards, did you sign anything to clarify that you were – with Emotiv, or Mick Anglo, or indeed with Marvel?

AM: I think that I did – one thing that I said at that time was that I was prepared to – if they brought out a collection, if somebody brought out a collection of Marvelman, then I would want all of the money from the first edition to go to Mick Anglo. This was at a time when I though, yes, I did do a lot of the work on it and it would be nice if, I don’t know, Leah and Amber, or Mel, were to profit from it in the future, but by the time that Marvel Comics were involved I just though, ‘No, let it go, give all the money to Mick Anglo,’ and – which is more tricky than it – it looked like it was going to be quite easy to do, but then I kept getting all these contracts that didn’t want me to – didn’t seem to want me to give the money to Mick Anglo, or to take my name off of it. Eventually I signed one that did state just that.

...

AM: I think that’s probably true. I did hear of a comment that I didn’t really understand from Neil Gaiman that said that – I think this was after I’d said that I definitely wanted me name taking off of it, and they’d sent me another contract saying that, all right, ‘All the money will go to Mick Anglo, and Alan Moore’s name will not appear on the cover.’ So I sent that back as well, saying, ‘…or the insides, or anywhere in the advertising, or anywhere connected to this project.‘ Eventually we got that accepted, but Neil Gaiman said something to me over the phone which I didn’t really understand. He said that he’d been talking to Marvel and had said, yes, they did have the rights to publish Marvelman, but that he had been talking to them suggesting that it might not be a good idea if they did. I didn’t care one way or the other by this point, so I didn’t really register that, or understand quite what Neil meant. Maybe he would know more about it, I presume he’s in closer touch with Marvel than I am.

I spent the weekend at GalaxyCon Richmond and had a great time. The dealer room was disappointing (I wanted to buy some HCs/trades to get some creators to sign and there were almost none to be found), but there was a ton of cool panels to go to, the celebrity booths were never super busy, and they had free wrestling shows every night. More comic creators would be welcome, too, though. Worth the trip!

Nope. There's exactly two shops inside the District (Fantom Comics on P St. in Dupont and Big Planet Comics on U St.) and they're both quite small. Friendly, good shops, but not really what you're looking for, I don't think. If you have a car, Victory Comics in Falls Church, VA might be more what you want, but I wouldn't make a special trip for it.
