(NOTE I have not seen animatrix so if differs in structure from ldr or is also horny, eff you i dont care, i like the joke!)

This is an animation anthology series from Netflix that adapts various short stories into short videos (youtube length, I'd characterize it). This is also decidedly :nsfw: with cg boobs, sex, violence, rape, and what have you and I'll paraphrase an astute couch chat poster by saying this seems an exercise by a netflix exec into getting his commissioned cgi boobie art published as a series.

However, it is extremely Cool and Good, in my humble opinion, and while I haven't yet finished all of the shorts I plan to soon. I'll flesh this out later once I have time (she says, with a straight face) so please by all means discuss this: bicker about which one is best, whine about the video game look of some of them and be your regular goon selves!

e: Here's a really loving lazy episode guide :v:

Thank you for making this thread! I'm watching them in order so I'm on Good Hunting (episode 8) right now. I love animation and love anthology series so I'm glad Netflix made this. So far I have to say that Beyond the Aguila Rift looked amazing, especially Greta. The amount of breast in here is funny but they show some penises too if you're curious.

10 eps in and already two rape-and-revenge stories. I think maybe the assorted short makers didn't compare notes ahead of time.

I think we've officially arrived at the point where we officially can't trust our eyes anymore.

I was thrown off for a second at the start of the 'Lucky 13' episode, because my brain couldn't immediately decide if Samira Wiley was real or CGI.

The repetition of some of the stories was a little meh.

Fish Night was probably my favorite of all the shorts. I think the 'worst' was Suits because it was just Pacific Rim, but on a farm.

E: Three Robots was good too, and Soul Sucker has its moments.

That matches with my experience, but I have been reading the resetera thread, and there is a ton of people saying they got a different ordering.

It might be tied to region, in which case IMDB could be showing your local ordering.

For the record, my first episodes are Sonnie's edge, Three Robots and The Witness. Is anyone else getting a different ordering?

Currently watching the yogurt one. They're definitely a lesson in that sometimes less is more; three Robots was brilliant but would have been tiring if it had ended up as a 90 minute plus movie.

None of them was bad; too 3 for me were 3 robots, ice age and Aquila rift. Good Hunting was pretty awesome too, and living between Beijing and HK made it pretty awesome.

"The Witness" tripped my uncanny valley alarm, because they're doing that Into The Spiderverse intentional "undercranking frame rate" but their clothing and bodies were way too real, like it felt like they were actual actors with their faces digitally replaced with slightly cartoon faces. The CGI in "Beyond The Aquila Rift" was way too good. The humans in "Sonnie's Edge" were very "video game cutscene" quality but good current-gen cutscene quality, but the focus is really not them, but the fighting beasts.

I had to pause after "Good Hunting" but I'll try to finish up later today.

It's a big strength of the show that each episode is 15 minutes or less

Also, I wish they had a making off featurette thing going over the techniques they used to animate things and the inspirations for the styles and what they were adapting. Like, surely the witness was shot for real and then rotoscoped/CGed.

Just binged all the episodes, lots of gaming 3d throwbacks on the studio names in the credits. Lucky 13 was made by Sony Imageworks so i'm not surprised about being very good quality wise(their Aramaki 3d movies were always top notch on the tecnical side after all), blur did a top job but their shorts(sonnie's edge, shapeshifters and suits) were sorta flat story wise, the two shorts made by blow studios(three robots and yogurt) were average quality wise but had the best scripts, the one and a half made by digic(some part of ice age and secret war) was good too. Overall only blindspot was below average, so thumbs up! Like some of the other posters I concur about this kind of product being best on short episodes instead of attempting to fill it up to 45 let alone one full feature. I do honestly hope about another season if they can keep this quality up.

Three Robots was my favorite. So much personality in those little bots, especially in the little guy. And the character introduced near the end. The animation and environments were amazing, there's so many little details in the post-apocalyptic city you only see on a rewatch.

Suits was great. Someone in the streaming thread said it's closest in style to Starcraft, and I agree. It'd make a great video game. Farming sim/base defense.

I watched all the episodes and it was pretty good and I overall enjoyed it,

However, I thought the stories were rather uninspired and mostly there to showcase the animation studios, and how far 3D animations have come since, like, Reboot.

I mean, one of the stories was just a retelling of a level of Megaman Zero

I found three robots really trite and boring. Super pretty but it was just....obvious? I don't know.

Now they can start doing this sort of animation for modern day Sci fi stories instead of old style ones, I'd be excited to see what happens with it.

this is basically how i felt. i understand they're shorts so they cant have a ton of plot but i definitely felt like most of them were someone's final for 3d animation class.

I cried at Zima Blue. There's a lot of poetry going on in that but the concept of Zima realizing he was originally being a pool-cleaning robot, being more and more upgraded until he becomes "human" and starting this whole art revolution thing as a means of understanding his place in the universe, and ending his life going back to the beginning and cleaning the same pool one last time as a final hurrah touched me in ways that none of the other shorts did.

Despite being the lowest score on IMDB, I actually liked The Dump. A lot of them felt like they were self-contained, but I wish Fish Night had gone along a bit more. I did feel like there was a whole lot of repetition in the plots of the shorts going on, especially "zerg rush/final stand" with Suits, Sucker Of Souls, and The Secret War (Maybe Lucky 13, but I consider that a bit different than those three). I think I'd be a bit more forgiving if the monsters didn't look the same.

Compensating for their length, no doubt! :v:

To contribute to the discussion, so far Good Hunting is probably the highlight of the episodes and I have a soft spot for Suits. The rest I appear to have contrary opinions to the good episodes: I liked Sonnie's Edge, Three Robots wasn't interesting to me and Yogurt was far too predictable given the current political atmosphere. Many of them spend too much time on world-building and not enough time developing the story. Beyond Aquila Rift is notable for this given that it introduces Greta sketchily as a person that left his life decades ago, then it was straight to loving like they were doing it daily. It made the reveal more effective, I guess, but what they say and what they do did not always connect.

HBO- Let's spend our whole Game of Thrones budget on CGI Dragons and Zombies

Netflix- Let's spend the money on bouncing CGI plot related dongs

Also the large amount of visual variation is due to how the series used different companies for the production side of things.

My picks

Best episodes if I had to pick 5:
-Sonnie
-Beyond the Aquila Rift
-Good Hunting
-Zima Blue
-The Secret War

Awesome visually but story not so much
-Fish Night
-The Witness
