Nothing in Jurassic World is natural, we have always filled gaps in the genome with the DNA of other animals. And if the genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different. But you didn't ask for reality, you asked for more teeth.

I have no idea if that stat is true, but I didn’t get it from some Reddit incel forum, it’s from one of those dating websites like OK Cupid or something like that. Maybe the reason women on ok Cupid find most of those men so repugnant is because only unattractive men use OK Cupid. Who knows.

as a sociologist, this is a misinterpretation

it may provide an explanation for the biological aspects of patriachal socio-sexual relations in a context of a property system, but if you read anthropological sources as old as Margareth Mead you can find multiple societies where gender roles are completely different from western society, off the top of my head there was a book on a paraguayan tribe that believed more men having sex with pregnant women meant more health for the baby, and the children were raised by the community, so the fatherhood question was never even relevant.

so it's not like biological human nature says poligamy is powerful men with multiple vulnerable women wives, it's more like that in societies like ours, with patriachy and the property system, poligamy generally plays out this way

the studies tended to acknowledge exceptions like this, hence the way i tried to grant their existence with it being 'more' of a thing without belaboring the point, but in general they didn't want the existence of a couple of tribal societies that never scaled past a couple hundred or couple thousand people to conflate with the context of the larger civilizations that would routinely cover hundreds of thousands to millions (which is what the question was basically about because that's the context 99% of the planet lives in today).

they specifically called out a bunch of incan emperor writings in the justification for this being a #notjustwhiteppl thing where the emperor would go on record saying, more or less, "it's a literal 'fuckin problem' for me to gently caress the literal thousand women in my harem so can we please cut that poo poo back so i can govern more and gently caress less"

i won't pretend that i understand how valid or invalid this is i just remember it because it those quoted letters were hilarious

i get it, it's just that biological sociology is way too often generalized into eternal facts about the human condition, if a team of researchers would travel back in time a few centuries ago when slavery was the default around the globe they might find that slaves get a bonus by having a master that provides food and shelter versus being out on the fields being spearfucked by barbarians or something, but that's describing a biological rationale for the social institution, not proving that the institution itself derives from biology and is immutable and eternal because of human nature.

99% of the world acting this way right now is in no way guarantee that things will keep being this way or that it's baked into our biology, and the exceptions, rather than proving the rule, prove there's no hard biological determination for social norms going on there. The immediate family incest taboo is a good example of hard biological determinants, societies that didn't have it literally couldn't survive for long.

still, things will probably be this way for the duration of our lifetimes :v:

With tons of data available from all these online dating sites, the 1 in 5 rule holds steady, the top guys get the vast majority of messages of interest from the ladies. That stat cited earlier about how when ranking men on their attractiveness, 80% of men score "below average" about sums it up.

The handful of puritan generations where 10s paired up with 10s and 5s paired up with other 5s is going to be a minor blip on our DNA ancestry.

If this were true, that women have only gone after the top 20% of men for millenia, wouldn't that have killed off the unattractive qualities in men by now?

I don’t think monogamy makes much sense in this day and age, particularly if you’re not going to produce children. Why shouldn’t people just have sex with whomever. Why is sex different from Warcraft or snooker or book clubs or fishing or historical reenactments or movie watching or going to the theater. Idk

Tbf a lot of things aren’t necessarily logical in the world but we get used to them and it’s painful as a society to change our ways so it’s better just to stick to it. And that’s fine I guess.

Because even if you're actively avoiding trying to have a child it can still happen? All those stats on birth control and condoms assume proper use. If there's one thing people aren't known for it's being perfect and never making mistakes, especially when emotional and riding a hormonal roller coaster.

You assume the qualities that make men unattractive are genetic. Being poor af is inherited, usually, but it ain't biology.

Also I bet that 20/80 thing has as much to do with women simply being less turned on by men in a visual sense. Like a man has to be generally exceptional to even be noted, from just a picture. Ive been told over and over that voice, movement, personality, even smell all play a bigger part in Male attractiveness for women than vice versa.

Hence why women trend towards literotica over pornhub.

Also, OP, poly literally almost never works for straights. Gay dudes apparently make it work just fine regularly. Never seen a straight couple where it wasn't two people suicide bombing a dying relationship, or one partner actively making the other partner miserable for their own sexual gain. (Sometimes the misery IS the gain).

attractiveness is relative, it's entirely possible men HAVE been getting more subjectively handsome for the last 10,000 years because of that sort of pressure, we wouldn't be able to be sure unless we got a bunch of faces from classical age mofos and could compare. it wouldn't stop there from being 'ugly' men today just because they're uglier than the next guy.

that said the two things that men and women look for in a mate is apparently kindess and intelligence and this is something in common between the two sexes. that makes sense because that goes directly to how good a partner and parent they will be, whereas physical attractiveness doesn't really lend itself to either.

Bezos is worth 131 billion dollars. That's an absolutely incomprehensible amount of money. The wealthiest and most privileged people of the past couldn't even visualise that amount of wealth. It would be impossible to even store it, and it makes their most extravagant palaces and jewels look like chump change. Bezos could make ten Buckingham Palaces and it wouldn't have any material impact on him at all.
And yet there are STILL people in America, today, who are generationally malnourished, and yes, shrunken from lack of good food, and who have basically no proper education. There are parts of America that are practically on the level of a third world country.

Bezos is small fry compared to absolute monarchs. Some click baity article estimated Versailles is worth about 50 billion. Note that Buckingham palace (5 billion) is also only one of many british palaces. The house of Saud apparently might be worth 1400 billion.

That's not counting the resource of the state at your disposal as a monarch like Louis xiv.

I wouldn't say that's true. Sometimes you just fall for two (or however many) people. Why does that immediately make a person abnegate jealousy? That's something that gets brought up by the poly folks often: they say that jealousy is small-minded and selfish and ignore that it's deeply rooted in the human psyche.

Jealousy may not be "healthy" or "grown up" as these people would have it, but judging from the people I've met, a lot of them don't have a clear sense of their own emotions. You know, like guilt.

This is something Contrapoints actually discussed in her video take-down of incels. She actually stops a moment to acknowledge that dating sites, which basically only give pictures of the users are a horrible way to find a partner, especially if you are not really handsome. It's not that women are only choosing the top 20% of men all the time, but that they're doing so on dating sites and incels are overwhelmingly experiencing dating through these sites.
