GS Mikami is actually Ghost Sweeper Mikami!  In Japanese pop culture, especially late 80s to mid-90s, a sweeper is a sort of private investigator whose main job is to avenge the wrongs their clients have suffered, often when the culprits are above the law. They're basically edgy good guys who aren't limited by legal constrains. They often have cop friends who come to them and tell them "There's this guy who's been doing all sorts of bad stuff but we can't touch him because we don't have enough proof, you on the other hand..." Mikami is like that, only for supernatural stuff. So she's a Ghost Sweeper! Basically a Japanese version of Ghostbusters. iirc she's in her early to mid twenties? So definitely of age. First of all, the Super Famicom released in Japan in 1990, and in the USA in 1991. Second, I don't think the tech was there to make SNES homebrew before the late '90s or early 2000s. You'd need some sort of devkit, reverse engineered or leaked, and at least a copier or emulator for testing, and SNES emulators even in the early '00s had a lot of sound problems. Danaru posted:

So I might be wrong, but I have a very strong feeling that Dropzone was some kind of clone of Defender, following your gut instincts of "Was this an atari game?" era gaming. But it would fit with how you are flying around a looping screen, and rescuing(?) those little things.

Dan and Grace's Chaos Romcom Episode 77 - Inspector Gadget To clarify something Grace said this episode, my type, as you can probably guess, is super femme-ey dudes like Grace, and considering the character he mentioned pretended to be a girl online just like Grace did when we met, it makes sense why he'd think of them. What Grace had forgotten, since he was 12 when the show came out, that character is also 13, making him Extremely Not My Type. I just wanted to clarify that before anyone gets the wrong idea. Further news, this is the last episode we currently have in the backlog, and our recording chances are getting even slimmer due to the plague. I work as a housekeeper at a hospital and I a m s o t i r e d. So it might be a while until the next one

There's a Phantom newspaper comic, and tbh at the moment is mostly pretty bad. There's sometimes cool parts (like when his daughter is kicking rear end), but usually it's The Ghost Who Walks abusing prisoners for no reason or showing people his treasure cave before blasting them with amnesia dust and other such crap.

Phantom 2040  Definitely one of my favorite Metroid-type games. The game has multiple chapters with the maps usually changing between them and the game is cool with you doing a lot of exploration before continuing with the story. The university, for example, has an entire area you can explore by going to the left when you start that has more than one exit that leads to small areas of other maps that you haven't unlocked yet. Everything is interconnected and taking the time to explore areas lets you unlock optional parts of levels and get upgrades/items a long time before you ever see them in full. The story also has branching paths that unlock certain areas so that you can't see everything during one playthrough. There's a guy in the university that you can only meet if you don't destroy the robot ship that gives you a keycard that unlocks parts of the next level that wouldn't otherwise see. Of course, destroying the robot ship gets you pellets that put out fires which gives you powerups and makes some maps easier to explore. It's a strangely deep game that rewards the player for putting time and effort into it. It is hilariously easy to gently caress up and get a bad ending, though

Dan and Grace's Chaos Romcom Episode 79 - Orion Trail I make the possibly unpopular of reading the text out loud in this episode, since its 90% reading. Also I'm a really fast reader and Grace is even faster than me, and we dont want to have to estimate how long to wait a couple times you can hear me accidentally read too far ahead in my mind, get confused on where I'm reading out loud, and paraphrase a sentence or two as I panic trying to get back on track. Plus I know a lot of people 'watch' our episodes in the background like a podcast, and I want to help that.Also this game is a ton of fun if you're not expecting to win

I watched this episode and told myself that I should get Kerbal Space Program one of these days. Then I found out I already owned it. So I told myself I should download it one of these, uh, weeks because my internet is poo poo. I just checked and I already have it installed.
