The stink of writing fanfic is on me, and even I think it’s kind of silly to give an award to fan fiction. Yes, pretty much all of human literature is derived from other literature, but when you’re just using other people’s characters and settings to tell your story about gay cannibal mermaids in high school that’s just loving lazy.

the book Ship It! has a plot point where a fangirl gets to travel around the country with the actors on her favorite show because she pointed out at a convention that it's wrong for the characters to not be loving, and in her travels w/ them she writes fanfiction about the actual ACTORS loving, which leads them to realize that she was right all along and they should gently caress. this is original fiction btw.
