Ace Combat is a aerial combat action series developed by Bandai Namco. A series spanning 24 years and 17 entries, the series has sold over 14 million copies worldwide, and is super fun (except Assault Horizon, 'cause gently caress that game). We'll be playing the latest entry in the series, which also proves that counting is hard! We'll be flying through the story together, and it'll be a good time of (most likely) abject failure! What's this "we" business? Oh, yes--I am not alone in this adventure. Your co-pilot for this endeavor is Dewgy! ...and you! Yes, you'll be helping out, too! Starting from mission 3 forwards, you'll be directing us on what planes to buy, what planes to fly, what parts to use, and what weapons to use! Of course, caution is advised (as anyone who might have seen our previous LP, Wing Commander IV, knows, I'm not a good pilot)! So you clearly know what's coming, then? Nope! I've run the first 2 missions--after that, I'm pretty clueless as to what to anticipate. Of course, there will be clues in cutscenes and briefings (and having playing previous AC games, you can guess what might happen somewhat reliably), but I'm going to be just as surprised as you guys are! Good thing I already 100% this 5 times over... Awesome! DON'T SPOIL poo poo FOR THE REST OF US We'll be running the first 2 missions ourselves and posting them here as we finish. Like I said, after mission 2, you get to vote to help us decide what to do next! You'll get to see the briefings for the upcoming mission before we fly it, so you can get an idea of what to pick in order to maximize our success (or maximize our failure). I'll also be flying missions on my own in order to purchase new planes every 2 missions or so For each upcoming mission, you'll vote for what plane to fly and what SP weapon to use (I will make sure all the SP weapons are unlocked on the planes as we get them). I'll be adding a detailed description of every plane we use after the mission we use it in is posted. When voting, please BOLD your choices so I can spot them and count them up. Ties are broken by the pilots. Here's a link to the aircraft tree so you can look ahead Anything else? Oh, yeah...always remember: .....well, poo poo Exactly! As a bonus, I'll be posting write-ups about the planes we'll be flying, including in-game and real-life information: F-16C FIGHTING FALCON (still just happy to be here) Available SP weapons:
Also Appears In...:
In-Game Description: A low-weight fighter developed to, among other things, support large lead air superiority fighters. Featuring the latest technology of its time, such as fly-by-wire, it boasts great dexterity and stability. Its nickname is "Fighting Falcon." Real-Life Info: The most numerous fixed-wing military aircraft in the world, there are more than 3000 F-16s in use by 25 different countries. Introduced in 1978, this is the first production fighter to be designed with negative static stability, also referred to as "relaxed stability" (the plane is designed to not return to straight, level flight if the pilot releases the controls). To utilize the increased mobility, the F-16 also uses a fly-by-wire system, where electrical circuits and computer systems take the place of mechanical/hydromechanical flight control systems. In this case, the computer and fly-by-wire systems take the place of constant inputs from the pilot to maintain level/directional flight while enhancing maneuverability.

I was gonna suggest going for the F-15E cause Starscream, but then I remembered Blitzwing was my favorite G1 Transformer but sadly while somehow his weird plane form is based on a real plane, it's one that doesn't appear to be in the tech tree (MiG25), so darn Anyway they still have that plane that's a vulcan cannon with wings, right? That one's always rad.

That would be the A-10--the plane that was built specifically to carry one of the most ridiculous conventional guns there is. We'll probably get to that one eventually. Unfortunately, if previous Ace Combat experience plays here, it has pretty limited use (unless you guys make me fly it, that is ) Also, diggin' the FM3 references.

Thanks! Only FM I ever had, probably best uninformed impulse buy child me ever made. But hey, we're here for the planes :P Yeah, I guess the A-10 is the one I meant, rings a couple bells. If it's of as limited use as you say, then uh... well, speaking of FM, Wanzers are a sort of mech, and my favorite mech is the Mad Cat... So what's the best Mad Cat w/ Wings in this game? IE the plane with all the missiles?

F-4E Phantom II (Not nearly as happy to be here as the F-16) Available SP Weapons
Also Appears In...
In-Game Description: A large carrier-based fighter designed as an interceptor. The E-model is a variant used by the air force. Though an older craft, its speed records are still impressive. It has other various nicknames around the world in addition to "Phantom II." Real-Life Info: This is one of the old-timers here--the F-4 entered service in 1960, and still sees limited use by Australia, Greece, Japan, Iran, and Turkey. When it was produced, it was the top of the line--capable of Mach 2+, highly adaptable, and set a bunch of performance records--it was even used with NASA to track Titan II missiles in the air. The plane was pressed into service extensively in the Vietnam War, largely to counter the MiG-21. End results on maintaining air superiority were questionable, with wild swings in kill ratios at various points in the conflict. Over 5,000 were built in its 33-year production run, making it the most produced American military supersonic aircraft.

Haven't watched the video yet (will do so right after posting this), and with my luck the next mission is over water/in space??, but cruise missiles are cool so I vote for a Gripen w/ LACM.
|
# ? Apr 13, 2019 05:49 |

For the record, LASMs totally lock on to things that aren't ships, but only ground level targets. The primary difference between anti-ship and anti-ground ordinance is the flight path; anti-ship hits the deck and cruises at low altitude (so it'll catch on anything if you're using them on land that isn't perfectly flat desert), and anti-ground more or less fly above the target and pitch down. The real problem was I voted for them in a purely air superiority mission. I said it would be good for one of you after all. It just happened to be the one who asked for sabotage . It's too bad you don't have the Tomcat though, just to have a Hornet here. Without it, may as well stick to the Eurofighter tree and go Gripen E w/6AAM. Nothing like piloting a Saab.
|
# ? Apr 13, 2019 07:14 |

Just gonna say I think sabotage is stupid because if people keep forcing special weapons that aren't fit for the mission it'll mean you'll barely use them and people like me who never saw the game before won't actually get to see them in action.

MIRAGE 2000 Available SP Weapons
Also Appears In...
In-Game Description: A light fighter with delta wings and no horizontal tail wing. The 2000-5 is a multirole fighter with good balance and maneuverability at high speeds. Nicknamed "Mirage", its fly-by-wire gives it great stability. Real-Life Info: Our first non-US plane in this playthrough, this plane is manufactured by French company Dassault. It's currently used by 8 countries, including France, India, the UAE, Taiwan, Greece, Egypt, Qatar, and Peru, where it is primarily a multirole aircraft, rather than a dedicated bomber or fighter. Initially began as a partnership with Britain to develop a variable-geometry aircraft (much like the F-14) in 1965, the French withdrew from the partnership due to cost. Due to those cost restrictions, we end up with a single-engine, delta wing fighter instead of a F-14-looking thing. In it almost 30-year production run, only about 600 were produced. Also Appears In...
In-Game Description:A low-weight multirole fighter. The newly redesigned E-model features a larger body, a retrofitted large-thrust engine, advanced avionics, and more. Its nickname is "Gripen" Real-Life Info: Man, Eurozone countries really love delta-wing planes! Made to replace the 35 Draken (THAT'S a weird looking plane), the Gripen is the first plane we've encountered this playthrough that's still in production. It spent 21 years from development to entrance into service(1979-1996), and multiple crashes during testing lessened its appeal so much that it took bribes to sell it to other countries. The Gripen employs fly-by-wire controls to utilize fully its relaxed stability, improving its maneuverability. Designed to have a service life of 50 years, the Gripen is designed with modular systems in the hopes in incorporating updated and new technologies into the airframe. Approximately 247 Gripens are in service to 6 countries (Sweden, The Czech Republic, Hungary, South Africa, Thailand, and The United Kingdom). F-104C STARFIGHTER Available SP Weapons
Also Appears In...
In-Game Description:A slim supersonic interceptor from the Century series of fighters. Its thrusters and small, thin, trapezoidal wings allow it to fly at great speeds, meaning it even stands up to more modern craft. Its nickname is "Starfighter."[/b] Real-Life Info: The oldest service plane in the game (beats the MiG-21 by a year in introduction into service), this plane served in 15 militaries around the world until 2004. The development team for the aircraft was led by the same person that helped develop the P-38, the U-2 and the SR-71. The plane itself was plagued with problems from the outset, with a poor glide ratio that doomed the plane on engine failure, to potential unrecoverable stalls, and a myriad of safety issues. Not to mention the Lockheed Bribery Scandal, which almost tanked the company.
