RIP Full Band. Who could have possibly foreseen that repeatedly bragging about stealing classified information on open comms while in a penal unit would have serious consequences?

I suppose in a world where some guy can acquire classified information while in jail another prisoner could get in talks with the enemy... So I still don't count (:v:) out the possibility that Count is working with Eursea.

Not gonna lie--the machine gun pods were decently better than I anticipated. Probably could've picked up better results if I had used the F/A-18 with the railgun, though :v:

Possible. He did draw all of those drones 2 missions back, and then takes out Full Band...I'm guessing we'll see soon enough with the upcoming sortie, since I predict that either
  • Bandog orders us to shoot down McKinsey, or
  • Count tries to shoot down McKinsey.

In-Game Description: A classically-designed small, low-weight fighter combining delta wings and horizontal tail wings. While its tricky controls ask a lot of the pilot, it boasts an impressive war record. It also has a number of nicknames on account of its striking appearance in the sky.

Real-Life Info: Welcome to the oldest plane on here, with the MiG-21F being introduced to service in 1959; This variant saw production start in 1972. This is also the longest-serving plane in this game, still in active service in 18 country's militaries. Built to serve both an interceptor and fighter role, its unique design allowed for acceleration up to mach 2, making it comparable to the F104 Starfighter and the Mirage III (with this plane coming first). However, that design comes with significant drawbacks, as the BodyEngine severely limits the ability of the plane to use radar, and its fuel tank placement greatly shifted the center of gravity as the plane flew, cutting its stable flight time. 10,645 of these were produced over its run, making it the most-produced supersonic military aircraft in history. Also, if you have a lot of disposable income lying around, you can purchase one of these for your very own! (according to FAA records in 2012, there were 44 privately-owned MiG-21s in the US)

The EML is downright ridiculous if you're using arcade controls or are really good with sim controls. But even if you can't hit moving targets with it it's nice being able to blap slow things from several times missile range.

I'm glad you showed us that wonderful Bandog line you get if you lose.

For the next mission, I know the obvious choice is something with anti ship missiles, but they kind of turn it into a joke. I promise you'll have much more fun seeing those ships up close and personal in an F-15C Eagle with the PLSL.

Wow, can't believe we were betrayed by our expectations! Anyway this felt like a pretty lame rear end level, gotta say. But the same can be said of most escort missions.

Anyway, is there really a reason to use specifically anti-ship weapons when you have general anti-ground weapons? I suggest taking that Rafale M and giving that cool-sounding LACM a spinbarrel roll.

It took me ages to get good with the railgun but there's a certain joy to replaying the campaign with it unlocked and sniping the mystery man in the thunderstorm mission with a gun that really doesn't care whether or not you can lock on in clouds.

Well, if you've played any of the other more recent entries from the series (except Assault Horizon, 'cause gently caress that one), then its definitely worth it. Yeah, that's the authentic Fleet Destruction experience. 15 minutes of flying back and forth over a dozen SAM launchers with no checkpoint.

AC History: Stonehenge is a battery of giant guns built to destroy incoming meteorites (AC Earth was hit by a devastating shower of asteroid fragments in 1999) that was repurposed into a superweapon in Ace Combat 4, until the player blows it up.

I don't think you've used SAAMs and we haven't seen many Russian planes so far so MiG-31B Foxhound with SAAMs.

Oof, I thought the SAAMs were actually pretty good for that mission but there were fewer bomber and more ground waves than I remembered. Something with anti ground weapons would have made the first half easier, at least.

As a general rule, tanks and AD tanks (which are nasty things with both point defense guns and SAMs) take two missiles to kill while all other ground targets take one. A-10s take 3 normal missiles or two special missiles, which makes them very annoying unless you can get some gun hits on them.

Although I 100% agree with the point you guys have made in the videos about how the dialogue gets tiresome if you keep failing a mission over and over (and there is one down the line I hit that point on very quickly) I really like the cheesiness of a lot of the mission chatter - the scientists and ground troops yelling throughout the Stonehenge mission is straight out of an over the top sci-fi movie and seeing the giant cannon blow up the drone carrier completely ignoring its shield is a great feeling.

Ace Combat really nails that and it's why I love the series - after a few missions of things going really badly, enemy aces taking you for a ride, solitary, drones everywhere you pull some awesome trick out of the bag, everybody starts talking about how awesome you are as a pilot and you blow something enormous up.

I do appreciate the urgency and setting the scene from the dialogue, but it frustrates me when I have to head it over and over when I know I've screwed up and I know what I should be doing. I do appreciate the learning curve--while someone could bump down to easy, it's not necessary assuming you've been paying attention. I like games that require you to build up your skills, but not ones that are insane time sinks. The Skate series is a great example of that.

Ah, mission 6--it's a fun mission, but some of the terrain is very unforgiving, as you seem to have experienced :v:

I would recommend trying to learn expert controls. The big difference in the control schemes is what the left stick does, at least from the description (I haven't used standard, so I'm guessing). The normal controls almost seem like a Starfox-like control scheme, while expert is closer to how a real plane would handle. Of course, not being able to roll and bank effectively feels like it would severely hinder maneuverability. Also, a lot of the fine-tuning moves you see me do (strafing runs, landings, refuelings, etc)are with the shoulder buttons, which controls the rudder. That will steer the plane left and right without rolling.

If nothing else, load up mission 1 in free flight, go up close to the aircraft's ceiling, and just fly around and get a handle for it. When you're in dogfights, having the ability to make moves like what you see me do is really helpful.

Hope that helps!
