I wonder how the counterfeiting plotline will go. Seems like a terrible deal for the Hop Wei as they don't even have the printing operation on their own turf. But maybe it gets busted and the Long Zi take all the blame since it's on theirs. Then again the secret service agent is dead so who knows. lmao Young Jun with the prositute All the scenes in the mining settlement were extremely tense. I kept waiting for poo poo to hit the fan. I was not disappointed. I was surprised that Father Jun didn't die. He was giving off all sorts of death flags. Dispensed some wisdom and him dying there would've been a badass way to go. oh god oh gently caress posted:Counterpoint: Lee is handsome and should stick around Also Lee and Chao are bffs now. Great episode. Father Jun taking center stage like that was awesome and that barside chat with Ah Sahm was about a season overdue. Agree I was so expecting him to get killed off.

Kind of irrationally annoyed they didn't loot the poo poo out of that church and hand the guns to the labour force to take it over. Only really made sense the Juns would go along with the killing spree if there was SOMETHING to get out of it. The Mai Ling alliance does feel like an actual status quo change for the show, so that's neat. And I fully buy the Chao/Lee decisions made in this story.

That may have been my favorite episode. I always love enemies finding common ground kind of stuff. One of the great things about this show is how deep all the villains are; you were almost rooting for Buckley when he twisted the knife with that victory speech. Leary is still awesome, and Mai Ling glowing about her wedding is a wonderfully soft edge to the character.

Happy Jack. Well I guess Agent Mosley isn't dead. And he's loving terrifying. I liked that shot of him struggling to maintain his friendly demeanor despite being furious at almost being killed because of Lee. Father Jun I'm gonna call my shot: some bad poo poo is going to go down at Mai Ling's wedding. Guessing that Young Jun makes a move there. Or some Irish gently caress with it. Or the cops show up. Or the Secret Service.

Agent Mosley's definitely a compelling presence. Nice seeing Good Guy Li Yong (I'm trying to figure out if we've ever actually seen him do anything evil?) escorting Father Jun. A little confused about what's going on with Father Jun though. Just coincidental after being shot developed rapid onset dementia? Was it the opiates? PTSD from the wound? There's a lot of tenative peace right now between Leary and Ah Sahm, the Tongs, etc. Speculating if Mai Ling gonna make the wedding a bit of a...Red Wedding?

Oh poo poo. Hoon Lee wrote this episode? That is kinda cool. I'm surprised and impressed that the wedding went off without any major problems. Now unfortunately there's the aftermath of Mai Ling's decision to kill the elders... Iron Chef This Father Jun stuff is brutal Especially since he had that nice scene when he was lucid earlier in the episode.

Chief Racism had some hand speed! Was wondering if some of that was done in post! Not sure how to feel that Mai Ling was actually right and most those dudes were actively talking about killing her (although she couldn't have known this for sure, and she was technically wrong about Dacascos). Seeing Ah Toy dice that guy was satisfying but what an absolute deadend that plotline was. CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK posted:Oh poo poo. Hoon Lee wrote this episode? That is kinda cool. Li Yong is like the dumbest nice guy in the show. The response he should have had was when those elders approached him was to immediately bring their heads back as a wedding present. For a guy that has so much power and influence in the Tong I honestly wonder what he thinks about on a day to day basis, because he seems somewhere between blind and clueless about how poo poo actually works. Still I'm curious to see if he ends up fighting Ah Sahm to hurt or save Mai Ling; I kind of feel like he's the kind of guy that would be like "You made me kill my best friend, so I'm going to go kill your brother or he's going to kill m, but it's going to hurt you either way." I love that we got that great fight with some cool kung fu stuff, and then immediately turned around into two white guys going to war, like a pair of boxers, in a jail cell. This show really respects the idea that tough guys are tough regardless of whatever style they train. I'm shocked that Young Jun didn't have to kill his dad, that was a good call though. VagueRant posted:Seeing Ah Toy dice that guy was satisfying but what an absolute deadend that plotline was. I wouldn't say it was a dead end since the point was showing that Ah Toy is back in fighting shape. When the dudes first came to her parlor one guy almost killed her, now she's back in form and rolls three of them at once. The problem is that Lai has gone rogue so Ah Toy is probably going to have to go avenge her.

Mai Ling's biggest play through the whole series was realising what a moron Li Yong is and playing him/weaponising the respect people have for him all the way to the top of the Tong. Super lethal, personable and coolguy sure but he gets schooled by anyone who can look more than a fight ahead. Actually, moron is probably a bit unfair. He's just not ambitious in any way which in this world is shown over and over again as being a fatal flaw. Both the big fights in this one ruled, real meaty stuff. Love where all the little plotlines are at the moment, having everything 99% ready to kick off and then just having a nice normal wedding is A+ poo poo. God I hope Warrior gets a few more seasons I'm not ready to say goodbye to this thing again. masterpine fucked around with this message at 11:05 on Aug 5, 2023 |

Ohh, I dunno. This episode did give signs that maybe Li Yong is finally going to get fed up with her poo poo. She did just make him kill his best friend. I'll be disappointed if all that comes of that is him shouting at her really loud. We'll see.

Still getting caught up on this, but dear lord the wedding episode lived up to its reputation. Although astonishingly poor planning to try and take out their best fighter (except for Li Yong) with a piano wire strangulation. Kong Pak just being a decent dude and not a turncoat was a great way to play with expectations. Also good lord, that fight scene with Big Bill! His thorny relationship with Leary remains a favorite. Much as I miss Lee and Bill bouncing off of each other every episode I'm happy they both have gotten to grow. No idea what the status quo will be after the finale, though. They've set up a scenario where both tongs could have new leaders but not sure if the show wants (or should) commit to that.

What's next, is he going to kick Leary's rear end next week? One thing the show has been good about is the cross-cultural nature of kung fu. Chinese/Eastern martial arts aren't portrayed as "superior" necessarily to Western fighting styles, the Chinese characters are just generally more practiced in them. Strickland was a cavalry officer who has lots of actual battlefield experience using a saber, he's by no means a dandy using a decorative blade. Lai has had only a year or so of training, it's not impossible he'd be a better sword fighter than her. Especially since he's physically much larger, and as the Leary/Ah Sam fights showed, physical strength isn't ignored as an advantage (though not an overwhelming one) in fights. He probably would beat Leary in a swordfight, if not a boxing match. DJ_Mindboggler fucked around with this message at 18:44 on Aug 13, 2023 |

Actually it makes sense he'd be good at dueling with a Saber as the weapon was used as a dueling blade in the latter 19th century. I think the last 20 years of MMA have done a lot of disprove the "myth" of Kung Fu. It's a shame there hasn't been something as instructional in teaching people how swords work.

Yeah, I assumed that in addition to his experience in the war he'd also have had formal instruction in dueling with a saber in a military academy/private lessons.

That was a great finale. Satisfying resolution to some plots, but still left enough if there's another season. Though I'm okay with this probably being the series finale. "This isn't a conversation." Mai Ling getting her revenge was loving cold. lol everyone racing to kill Strickland. It played out perfectly too, especially with Bill pretending not to recognize Ah Toy. I'm glad Buckley is getting conned. Justice for Penny I'd watch a spinoff with Agent Mosley: Secret Service. Very disappointed that Lee is even considering going back to being a cop. Young Jun making the right call. Father Jun would be so proud. I didn't like the Ah Sahm heel turn? betrayal? idk. I know he's always had a soft spot for Mai Ling, but just loving join her tong instead of whatever the gently caress this was. I'm probably missing something but I didn't find it satisfying at all. I was hoping that Young Jun and Hong would beat his rear end. Li Yong and Leary moving up in the world And Chao getting his out of nowhere. I didn't expect that person to return. e: replace how Chao got done with Buckley and Penny haha. CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK fucked around with this message at 16:40 on Aug 17, 2023 |
