Pilot was ok, there's enough to keep me watching for at least a few more episodes. Really wish they hadn't interrupted the "big" fight though... I assume that'll get revisited later anyways

Escobarbarian posted:Does anyone actually have an explanation for the slang “onion”? Google isn’t very helpful I'm completely guessing here, but based on the opening of the first episode it might be because they all smell terrible off the boat? BO is kinda oniony...

I'm wondering if the show is gonna portray how anti irish a lot of americans were at this time. I think during this time period, they really weren't that much more accepted than the chinese were, which makes sense that the two groups are fighting over lovely jobs.

Hakkesshu posted:That episode was loving great as hell. I already thought it was a good show but this could've been like a movie in itself entirely separate from everything else. Man, I hope this show makes it because it seems very expensive and it does not seem like many people are watching it. Yeah I'm kinda surprised they renewed it because I didn't think there were very many people watching this. When I mention this show, no one else has heard of it.

Episode was good and slide stabbing owns. I hope the bomb explosion coinciding with sex doesn't mean that mayor's wife is pregnant though because thats gonna be pretty awkward

Yeah that fight was cool. I was wondering how Ah Sahm was gonna cover up the fact that he was all beat up but I guess he showed up all pristine the next day so whatevs. Its funny that he has absolutely no plan at all besides beating people up when the need arises and loving the white lady. Truly living the american dream.

Factory fight owned. I'm hoping that they show more of his background training stuff too. That stuff is a very kind of Martial Arts film type thing, where the protagonist fails but then rediscovers himself by remembering his roots. Also lol at the look on Ah Sahm's face when Leary catches his kick

My sister in law says that the main actor (who I guess is actually Japanese) speaks Chinese really poorly and caused her to stop watching the show in anger lol

Anyone watch the second season opener? I feel like I'm a bit more interested in the plot after watching it, as opposed to season one where I was basically just waiting for cool fights to happen

CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK posted:I wonder what building Leary blew up at the end. I was assuming it was the factory but I guess it could be something like that worker housing place Ah Sahm was living in for a bit towards the end of last season. It'd be awesome if it was the casino or a tong location though

Qmass posted:how does a show this good get so little interest ? Well, theres not really anyone famous in it. And I feel like martial arts stuff is a bit niche to begin with. Its also on Cinemax.

CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK posted:Nvm it seems like Chao's plan was to tell Bill that Zing is the swordsman and lay a trap for him. Which is interesting because it seems like a pretty dumb move for zing to do, unless he was thinking that his boys would just murder bill and family, and get away without anybody knowing it was them. I guess we know Zing is supposed to be ruthless but not necessarily stupid

Don't bring knives to a gunfight. Lee on the lever action was pretty great. Anyone actually see what zing stabbed li yong with? Were they little daggers or darts or something

CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK posted:The Ah Sahm v Leery fight should be a hilariously one sided beatdown, but it probably won't be due to story reasons. But it should be! Hopefully the fight choreography shows off the strengths of each fighter. Maybe have Leary get in a good shoot/ground and pound/grapple before ah sahm destroys him standing up

CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK posted:Mai Ling's blackmail photograph felt like a weak reveal, but that's definitely based on current events. Maybe back then people really did hate the Confederates and it would have been a fatal blow to his political aspirations outside of the south. Or maybe not idk. The show takes place relatively soon after the civil war, right? I can imagine that being a confederate soldier would be political death in a pro union norcal, especially if he hid it. I feel like its kind of odd how the show never really mentions any of the historical anti irish sentiment back then. I understand why its that way thematically, but it just never really comes up, aside from the fact that they work really lovely jobs like the minorities do.
