Saros posted:Malick would you mind focusing the Target armor arc a bit on the southern gun, a 360 degree arc is basically a 'stop spotting' command because it fucks with the AI. If you point it east-ish I think it's possible the T-34's might move forward enough to be in view. I have a dream where a T34 gives you beautiful side shots and swings the match back in our favor. I see what you're saying. I assumed soviet armor was going to try and ford the river but it looks like they are bypassing that and headed south. I'll update my orders.

Tiger Face east right away. Start reversing along the green line to near the bridge/river ford point so that the Tiger can easily turn right and ford the river. If no enemy tanks are present and threatening by end of minute 2 have the tiger ford the river (standard move) along the blue line and take cover along the southern bank tree line facing east/north east. Set a target arc close to the purple lines so that the turret is at least facing the right direction. If at any time an enemy tank is spotted have the Tiger halt, face the enemy and fire, unless it's fording the river. Popete fucked around with this message at 21:27 on May 1, 2019 |

Kampfgruppe Orders 1st Platoon (Lazy Q): 1) Prepare to be assaulted by Russian troops in the woods to your immediate East. Make sure you have men facing that direction ready to fire. 2) Russian troops are crossing the open areas SE of you to assault 2nd Platoon. Get machine guns and rifles in position to fire on their flanks as they advance. 3) Protect the AT gun near you, but do not let me get too close to it, as it will draw fire, 2nd Platoon (not my real name): Your men tried. Hopefully they will rally enough this turn to become controllable. If any men do rally in the next 3 turns, get them into the trenches. 3rd Platoon (not my real name): Continue mission of getting under cover to protect the Southern Ford. Get your men dispersed so Soviet tanks and arty can't wipe them all out at once. Detach some AT teams and send them into the vicinity of the east side of the village to ambush any German Heavy Weapons and Stragglers (Saros): Continue mission. If you think you can get the Northern stragglers safely across the river and into defensive positions near the NW part of the village, do so. If not, find the best positions on the north bank area to prevent a Soviet crossing of the southern ford. If you need to move the southern stragglers to reverse slopes or concealed sites to avoid tank fire, do so. Also, I recommend you cancel the fire mission. Tiger I (Popete): Move your tank south across the river and support the troops in the village. Your main goal is to kill the T-34 and T-70 attacking there. Recommend you use a limited target armor arc and are opened up. AT Guns (Malick23): I concur with Glynn, at this point, it may be too late to move the southern AT gun. All you can do at this point is make sure the remaining guns are oriented the right direction to engage threats.

2nd Platoon If anyone can receive orders during this round, please tell them to get in their trenches and shoot people. Not much to do at this point but be the best speed bump we can... 3rd Platoon Is that farm building a place i can put mans to shoot out? IF so, please split off 2nd squad, A team and place them in that building in positions they can shoot past the ford.(Yellow) I just realized i may have the origin of the yellow line placed incorrectly. The destination is definitely what I want, though, if the building will support it. Fast move the shrecks to positions in the buildings (Pink) where they can see out. Once they're there, they should shoot any tank that comes in rocket range with their panzershrecks. Everyone else, be shooting at those jerks we can see in the north woods and at the bend of the river. Let's use the MGs to lay down some area fire in likely locations in the front part of the north woods, even if no direct targets present themselves. Highlights: First turn I accidentally set the tiger to armor arc instead of target, but it didn't end up mattering much. What did matter is the T-34 made a move in the second turn right after I had the southern at gun move slightly to try to get LOS to it. This made turn 3 into a duel to see who could blast first (it wasn't us, barely). First platoon ate a PPSh lunch, buildings took some tank fire, southern stragglers took some casualties here and there. Soviets took spotty casualties all over, but we don't really have to worry about the guys in the open near the town anymore. Issues for us going foward: Northern stragglers as so tired they are barely moving. Soviet infantry will be pushing south. We gotta figure out what to do with the tiger. Enemy armor is doing the bombard all our poo poo thing again. This is a really good opportunity to engage the T34 piecemeal while they are distracted. Imo tiger needs to engage asap while they are shooting the AT gun and needs loose orders so Glyn can react to the situation as it develops. Seriously tho what the actual hell are they doing, why are there T34 floating around separately and where in gods name is the third one. Otherwise UGH. My stragglers are the worst possible troops we have for this sort of open field engagement in the south, without MG's they just cant put out enough volume of fire to matter outside SMG range. Gnoman really hosed us with this deployment. Finally Glyn is it at all possible to get shots/video of casualties we have inflicted, it's pretty impossible to tell if we are actually doing anything from what's posted. [e]Also how far is the closest T34 from the woods? It's hard to estimate ranges from the videos. Any chance of it being in PanzerShreck range? Some screenshots for orders-map purposes. I tried to get an overhead and an isometric view for movement and targeting respectively: Overview semi-isometric 1st Platoon Stragglers North, 3rd Platoon, Heavy Weapons Stragglers South Regarding panzerschrecke vs the T-34s: Here is the 150m "effective range" per the manual. Here is the 300m "maximum range" per the manual. Here are the teams we have in town. Up north there is another team in good order from 1st platoon that I retreated effectively, and one that I did not who is banged up. Belated status pics of the south AT gun. Note that there is a 85mm shell to the right that looks like it's on-target to make these promptly obsolete. I will work on getting some vids up that focus on the casualties we caused over the last 6 turns or so (we did cause some locally brutal casualties). I usually run out of time when we do the turns to take many more clips, but I should be able to get to requests like that on a slower timeframe.

Kampfgruppe Orders 1st Platoon (Lazy Q): Establish a line of resistance inside the forest. Your guys are strung out and can't support each other. Heavy Weapons and Stragglers (Saros): If you need to get the southern stragglers and weapons out of the tanks' LOS, do so. Stragglers and Heavy Weapons MORTARS -Mortar Teams (all four) withdraw at Quick and set up somewhere in the vague yellow box, ideally shielded from fire from the east. I want two able to direct fire fire on each of the red boxes, most importantly the riverbend hill and the ford. Stragglers North The Troops near us should be withdrawing. -In river & LMG, continue withdrawing to the foxholes over the river and once they get there take a break (face orders as appropriate). Recombine squads as needed as some only have 1-2 men. -The guys in position can get into foxholes and are afire at the enemy the Tiger has chewed up. -The HMG will withdraw to the big trench and Deploy, find a spot it can see the ford or the riverbend forest. Strag South and HMG. -Fight as best you can, target moving troops and probable enemy MG positions in the far forest. Also have somebody ping the visible T34 to button the commander. -If T34's start pasting a position, especially the east forest fall back behind the reverse slope to avoid fire. -HMG teams into buildings and DEPLOY. Target area orders are probably required to get the mshooting through the forest. -Two have HMG teams retreated, don't occupy the same positions but put into buildigns where they can target the enemy flanking in the far east. Also those Panzerschrecks need to get up to the forest and start spooking the T34 please. Saros fucked around with this message at 20:38 on May 6, 2019 |

2nd Platoon Give em hell. Can we satchel a group of bads? If so, please make a big boom in the woods. 3rd Platoon Have the fellas in the foxholes and the woods east of the road move (QUICK) back to the big trench in town (TURQUOISE). Try to position them so they can get some longer shots on the infantry coming from the north, across the ford and good shots on the ford itself. Panzerschreck Teams Please move the western panzershreck team into the trench at the furthest east point. (PINK) If that t34 moves up inside of max range and into clear sight, the eastern panzershreck team should move to the YELLOW x or thereabouts where they can get a good shot off at it. They should then shoot at the panzershreck immediately for 1 minute and then retreat to their previous position. edit: removed targeting arc from orders. We got the T-34, but spotting rounds portend a hard time ahead. Our infantry is chipped away but keeps turning back the enemy as they advance. One T-34 appears bogged, which means that if we can maneuver the tiger to kill the last operational one we have a real chance to win. The game was extra crashy today as I try to wrap up, so unit status pics will have to wait until tomorrow. It's crazy risky to continue to that edge of the woods, but it could be a max range shot on the T-34. Or it will get mulched by MGs. There is spotty LOS toward the T-34 from this area if we want to try to put the tiger in that position. I'll have to dig more into specifics to judge what our chances are. I think there may be a lane.

Awesome, we got one! Seems bringing the Tiger into town is the best choice, better than having it head north and possibly getting swarmed by infantry. It'll give them pause to push into town and hopefully give us time to regroup our forces.

Mentioned it in discord but can we get shots of any casualties and the effect of our fire in that final round, I see stragglers north and their friends in the foxholes putting out a lot of fire but its hard to tell what happened. Also the HMG in the buildings in the town, are they able to see/do anything? Would moving them to the ground floors help as they wouldn't be spotting through tree canopy? Also Ouch that loving spotting round hit on the mortars boooo. Are they intact?

Enemy forces Okay so according to the OP and some figuring I think we are facing about half a Cavalry regiment. This comes out to two Cavalry squadrons (of four in a rgt) (each three rifle platoons, one MG section with 4 MG and one SMG platoon and there may be some attached sappers to account for the wire blowing up we saw before. I think there are also a battery of 4x 122mm howitzers and a battery of 4x 82mm mortars, no idea about ammo counts on them. As of right now we seem to be missing a platoon somewhere but it might be in the middle where we don't have eyes. The big dangers (apart from the tanks) are the MG's which have been chopping up the town's defense from beyond the range they are able to really return fire. My thoughts is we should abandon the east and set up for a final defense of the town, refusing fire lines to the enemy MG's and T34 and making sure to keep an eye on movements so we can saturate wherever they set up fresh with fire so they can't pin us and let the enemy get in close with those murderous SMG infantry. My biggest worry right now is them bringing the SMG's from the NW down through the forest where the enemy ?scouts? are because at those ranges they will be able to do some serious damage to the guys in the positions by the ford. A quick post. I didn't expect Liverpool to win today, so my day has gone in an unexpected direction! I apologize for not breaking the screenshots into units individually. Here are some clips of LOS from foxholes and the north trench. they're in pretty good spots, though of course the broad front puts them in danger of being overwhelmed by short range SMG fire if they can't keep up with enemy numbers. The southern trench is basically useless except as a last ditch (wink) position for forces storming the town from the north. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH1UTwe15wo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjcyAUQe7eo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZEKsNGY77w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp9tcoWFpqc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag5CifO9XII https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku-TKbmiEoQ Here are two galleries that have all our units individually focused. tldr: 1st is almost shattered, but will take a couple with them, one AT team is okay, 2nd: rip the last men are standing, 3rd: fragile, capable of putting out a lot of fire but not taking much, Stragglers: north are exhausted, but can shoot, south are largely intact with a couple holes, AT Guns are all lost, mortars did not suffer so bad from that shell (the one was already hosed), MGs are a mix. 1st, 2nd, most of 3rd Some of 3rd, Stragglers, Heavy Weapons The straggler south lmg team got ganked by a shell and are laying dead in the trench. I don't see other heavy weapons down and whatever 1st 2nd and 3rd dropped are in lost positions at this point. I will try to get some casualty clips and enemy composition closeups real quick and add them in an edit if I have time. e: I was able to upload some poo poo real fast (please to give me iron cross for my verizon bill). Orders -Straggler North platoon consolidate into the foxholes, they should be vacated now. Area fire as necessary. -HMG in the north move quick and set up in the old AT gun position. Area fire on the guys who have cleared out our remnants of 1 platoon or whoever it was to the NE. -HMG in buildings engage enemy MG positions, pretty sure I spotted two. One HMG team seems to have dropped the HMG so please find and retrieve it as a matter of urgency. -Fall back to the reverse slope and break contact. Try extract and recombine the guys in the far east as well. Ah if you think it's possible going to pick up the dropped MG42 in the trench would be great. -Arty is coming, I expect you to figure where and dodge it, it kind of looks like a mission on the town to me so i'm not sending them thataway yet. Mortars: Get their asses into buildings and HIDE. Except the dude who's the sole survivor of the mortar team and the ammo guy who's also alone, have them medic to recover the mortar and ammo (then hide in buildings). Heavy Weapons and Stragglers (Saros): As your northern stragglers recover, get them into defensive positions SE of the southern ford. Hunt has the issue of stopping when it sees Soviet infantry as well. In my experience it's best to just get tanks into position asap as they can't spot well or shoot on the move. Just my 2c but the final leg of the move makes me super uneasy. The trees are not great cover and the ones in the eastern section of the wood are easy to see through so it's likely the tiger gets spotted and killed as it moves out from between the houses. Finally when it reaches the end of its move it will spend 20+ seconds rotating on the spot to turn NE during which time it can't fire accurately. Imo run further south behind the houses, turn around to face the enemy and then move out to engage with front armor already pointed in the right direction. Some contingency to engage infantry wouldn't go awry as well if the enemy tanks withdraw before you can get in position. Kinda like this: Saros fucked around with this message at 10:33 on May 9, 2019 |

2nd Platoon I see that remnants of 2nd are being pushed toward 3rd's position. I want to take a chance on saving that shreck and his commander. QUICK move them toward the ford. If a good target comes up, please engage freely and then continue moving toward 3rd Platoon. 3rd Platoon I'd like to make sure we're able to put fire on those soviets in the woods nearest us, they worry me. Feel free to scoot around in the trench if LOS presents a problem. Please move the fellas to the east of the road over to the foxholes behind the trench. (I see Saros ordering his HMG team into that position so I'll leave specific placements up to you. Please make sure the HMG team has first pick of locations.) If there's no good LOS from the available foxholes, put the mans in the trench. Once they're in place, engage freely. Panzershrek teams Heck let's go for it. Move the forward-most team up to fire on that soviet tank we can see. Hanging out at the edge of that wood makes us the only good target for a lot of enemy units and I expect we'll draw fire. Please use the smartest move commands to make sure they get up there quickly, fire, and then attempt to fade back into the forest. If the tank moves out of range, becomes obscured, or that team is unable to fire due to suppression or whatever, please retreat into the woods. The other team should HIDE in place unless it looks like we're about to get pasted by the tank or artillery, in which case please retreat a position with cover on the west edge of the woods they're in.

Obviously, the path I ordered mirrors the orders map Popete drew, which makes the diversion even more amazing because the path follows a road! edit: And just for the record, I did make a small adjustment to the orders in-game. There's a minefield behind the trench on the east entrance to the town. Since orders originally have the tank traversing that, I tweaked the movement to pop out slightly farther back in town well-behind the minefield. I don't think that anything to do with Combat Mission going wonky, but it should be noted. Also: reminder everyone we have a minefield right there. All infantry units: Take cover, rest, and regroup. We are going to hold our current defensive horseshoe N and E of town. Engage Soviet infantry at your discretion if you think you can get fire superiority. Mortars: If possible, start planning direct or indirect fires on the largest available concentration of Soviet infantry. Tiger: Advance as far as you deem prudent and engage Soviet infantry. The line of MGs in the woodline is my highest priority target. Once they are neutralized, engage other targets. Drop everything to kill any Soviet tanks that appear.
