Move thru the forest to the small tree patch in the open field. Turn to face along the green line and prioritize firing on the MG infantry in the tree line where the red box is. If any enemy armour are still present or show up immediately halt whatever we are doing and fire on them.

I'm not sure that the tiger will take the path through the town. That's how it got in front of the buildings in the first place; it got go near where the road turns and went north for no reason I can see.

And I think there is an increased chance of getting stuck in the woods but I'm not sure how much higher. It might still be worth it for the shorter distance, but that's hard to say.

Stragglers south fall back and get into houses/cover, send a rifle squad to pick up the LMG fro mthe trench. HMG make sure they are deployed, engage enemy MG positions and moving units. If people need to pick up weapons do that.

Mortars get out of the houses, medic and set up a team to direct fire on the following spots if possible without exposing them too much.

Return fire on the guys in the woods trying to shoot us up. We need to get a good volume of fire going and press them hard to reduce the amount of incoming fire we're taking.
Please have the LMGs and rifles we have left area fire at visible mans in the woods off-screen in the direction I've marked in turquoise. Any SMGs we have should put up a high volume of fire on the guys coming at us through the woods I've marked in yellow. Anyone who can't get a good shot at turquoise and yellow should fire at those jerks in the pink bit.

I'm not sure I understand how to split/recombine my units so if this isn't reasonable to ask, please divide fire between yellow and turquoise, focusing the LMGs on the woods toward turquoise.

Panzershrek Teams
That went less well than I had hoped. We didn't get the shot off and got exploded in the attempt. HIDE for one turn, then attempt to retreat back to the NE part of the trench UNLESS that tank comes forward into range. If he does, move up and fire at him, then retreat toward the trench, maintaining the best cover possible.

edit: Got confused about the location of targets, it's fixed now.

Unlikely, I think we need to withdraw a bit from the trench, maybe to the houses or the second trench line anyway as the guys to the north we can't really see are probably a HQ doing an arty call in on the fortifications. Second floor of the houses should have better views of the enemy as they approach.

[e] Can I get tiredness status of my teams and how much HE does the Tiger have left. The whole Soviet force in the east is basically hiding from it so it's not going to be very effective but it is locking down that whole bit of the map. Also a close up overhead shot of the town, I want to reposition the HMG teams.

I have an idea for TIger placement too, basically up the rise a bit where it beat up all those charging soviets. I lets it lock down the east, stops them using the ford to bring more guys over and can also support the other ford!

If we do this I think it might be worth having a target arc so it doesn't turn the turret to engage the western ford for now, I don't know how the side/rear of the turret are armored but I don't want to expose them to Soviet ATR fire or for the T70 to suddenly pop up and kill them.

No major changes to orders. Continue resting up your guys, recovering lost weapons, and getting into positions with good cover and good fields of fire. If you can area fire at Soviet positions, do it. It's time we did some shooting.

So that everyone knows what I'm thinking at this point.

At this point, our main objectives are to 1) prevent the Soviets from taking more ground and 2) prevent the Soviet from consolidating control of the ground they already have.

After the loss of their armor, the Soviets can't realistically launch an assault on the town. However, they can turn their toeholds into footholds. That'll give them a place to launch a future attack from. I want to prevent that. We can't sally out of town, but we can suppress any Russians in positions overlooking town and we can shoot up any Soviets who try to move forwards.

The Tiger is going to be the lynchpin of our ongoing defense. Getting it into a dominant position will be crucial.

Okay so here is what I think they are going to do, they know they cant take the Tiger directly at this point but it has only so much HE and is using it at quite an alarming rate for very little return.

Basically I expect them to probe from three directions to keep our infantry spread out, they likely think we are in worse shape than we are from the way they've been very enthusiastic in their attacks.

Basically a platoon infiltrate in the east, 1-2 go for the west ford and 2ish go for the north ford, all with as much fire support from their excess of MG's as possible and timed with an arty and possibly smoke bombardment. Once they are across the ford they can get amongst the village with their much larger number of SMG's and basically tear us to bits while the Tiger is largely unable to stop them.

The best counter imo is diversifying the defense so we cant all be wiped by arty, getting cover on the west ford and making sure the Tiger locks down the central/east ford so they can't mass troops in the much tighter terrain across the river.

The basic picture hasn't changed: they're trying to pincer us a bit. The T-70 charging forward highlights a gap in our orders, infantry and armor, for dealing with contingencies. Stuff that can be helpful are things like target priorities "target enemy armor, mortars, hq, mgs, and conscipts in that order" gives me some freedom to change targeting where "shoot that guy" does not. Another thing is description of intent. A good example is Saros told me to put an HMG in a building so it "could shoot north and west," but drew a line to a house with no northern windows. His expressed intent let me pick a better (but not great, btw) option for the unit that can shoot north and west.

Anyway, the AI also decided not to shoot the tank, which is amazing itself.

Lots of units dropped orders for some reason. Brief morale impacts or fatigue, maybe? Lots of shooting at enemy was just a few rifles too, so not very effective. We did get some lmg fire in the north to decent effect. Saros, your far eastern guys are moving, they are just exhausted and going very slow. The rifle unit that went after the LMG got suppressed right away because that trench is just too exposed.

Stragglers South and Heavy weapons

These are gonna be vague as I expect you to use discretion when setting up defenses to give the best fire lanes.

  • Mortars, except the one already targeting the troops to the North (it can continue to walk shots towards its target) get in position to drop the remainder of your ammo in the highlighted spot or any other troops concentrations around there. Use discretion as to when the bombardment starts, it looks like a platoon+ is moving there to stage and I want to catch them staging there. Once Mortar ammo is depleted get them positioned as riflemen to defend the church from an assault from the west.
  • HMG north area fire as shown to keep heads down, if Targets are visible in the Mortar zone you can pin them with this as well.
  • HMG in the north-east and HMG in the town move quick westwards and get set up in buildings. One in the forward bit with the yellow arrow if the buildings are decent for it and one in the town closeish to the trench. Use area fire on any spots they can see. Can they see into the riverbend forest form second floors? Can the guys in the trench see into that forest? I want them able to shoot northwards but also able to fire west if the enemy comes via the west ford through the forest.
  • HMG staying puti n the east shoot guys in the open but as a priority you are to suppress the fuckers messing with the LMG retreival crew.
  • Stragglers get set up along the arc I highlighted, pull a HMG to be the lynchpin of the defense, I want to be able to stop anyone crossing the same way the far east stragglers are, concentrate SMG's in the northern part of the arc.
  • LMG retrieval crew, you know what to do.
  • Far east stragglers get out of the trees for quicker movement and get them home safe, use your discretion about routing to avoid getting shot.

You need to be focusing on the guys right in front of you, you can see the guys trying to evict our hero AT gun man from the trench right now and with area fire orders to suppress them he can keep picking them off one by one and generate much more entertainment for us. Ouch, looks like the mortars and their own artillery really smushed up the western thrust. Right now the big threat is the middle and that bloody T-70 is rolling across to over-run our trenchline. However if we can bring the Panzershrecks forward I think there's a good chance we can kill it if it tries to force the line.

Some Tiger support for central would be good though. It's not achieving anything now as it's got too many targets in widely dispersed directions.

Okay so if you watch the video you see it hit what looks like 2 mines and then when we spot it it's stuck in the same position for about ten seconds. We may not have tracked it but it seems to have at least decided to stop and turn it's turret to take a shot at the Tiger. Tiger should be able to see it too so goodbye T-70.

ORDERS:

Okay so the western thrust is a lot less worrying right now after eating a bunch of mortars and friendly artillery and those guys on the central hill are suppressing our defences.

-Simple enough orders this turn. heavy weapons are move as fast as possible to get set up in positions that can see the riverbend forest then proceed to shoot the absolute poo poo out of the hill positions (presumably they are occupying our abandoned trench). As mortars run out of mortar ammo get them into a position to contribute rifle fire to the hill position.

-In the far east the stragglers team by the guys who got killed is to stop and die in place. The rest of the stragglers and the HMG there are to form a defensive line as indicated. Use your discretion for placement I don't have a good grasp of the terrain around there.

We should note that the mines we have are anti-personnel, so while I think hitting 3 of them in a row probably could have done enough track damage to bog the vehicle, it isn't so certain. A possibility is that the T-70 had hunt orders and stopped to shoot at the Tiger, or that this was their whole intent, as we've seen them do before.

In my head the math is: one turn should be plenty to kill the little tankie, and that may be an important morale victory. You know they're all extremely rooting for the underdog t-70 to get hits in on the OP tiger. As long as that little guy can scurry around taking million-to-one shots it will be a strong motivator for their comrades to continue to die rushing the church.
