I have had exactly one experience with the B/W voice chat and that's that someone I was pokebattlin' screamed into the mic when he was about to lose and I got startled and dropped my DS. Gen V is probably my favorite set of Pokemon games; I really enjoyed the increased focus on story and a lot of the new designs. Not all of 'em were winners, but whatcanyado?

quick note: Jolly lowers special attack and raises speed (and that's extremely unintuitive with the way they label them in the games, imho).

My favorite pokemon are pretty obvious, I think. Honorable mentions: spoilers for a certain cave coming up later, Venipede, Beedrill, and Natu.
