Weird, right? Whenever I'm bowling next to one of those guys who makes a big deal about bowling, a lot of them make a popping sound with their mouth at the moment where they release the ball. Is it like something some famous bowler does? Or is it some kind of weird zen thing to help them focus? If I start doing it will my game improve? My current average is 120 and I have no curve ball.

It's so the pins can't hear the release. They've been at this long enough to be able to tell where the ball will hit them from the sound of their fingers coming out of the holes alone before it even makes contact with the lane.

There are little rubber inserts in the finger holes that make it easier to spin/get more wrist action on the ball. House balls are balanced to go straight down the lane, pro balls are weight balanced to spin.
