Not really an effortpost, but the original run was my first experience with the idea that anime could be calming/relaxing, rather than exciting. It also got creative with its presentation in a way that prefigured the rise of Shinbo, especially the episode where the Yuki fanclub visits Hana's house. If the author was upset about the show, the only real grounds would be a) they shuffled around the order of some things later on and b) the last half of the final episode was an anime-original end that was kinda slapped together. Everything else was extremely faithful to the original and very well put together, especially the soundtrack from the sadly departed Ritsuko Okazaki.

Are you watching the 2001 or 2019 version? Aside from the 2001 version having the introduction of one character much earlier than in the manga (they wouldn't have appeared at all by the time the show was done otherwise) and having the last half of the final episode conclude a character arc that doesn't touch on how the manga version of that arc progressed at all, both are extremely faithful adaptations of the manga, to the point where you can constantly go "I remember this exact shot/panel from the other versions."

I volunteered at a domestic violence shelter for 10 years and this show just makes me sad because I can just mentally tick off the boxes of the various kinds of abusers and mental illnesses. The series is definitely about a cycle of abuse, but it never felt like misery porn to me. Just about every character we meet understands that the situation is wrong and is trying to find some way to escape or solve it, even if they sometimes lash out and hurt those around them.

Possibly, but Japanese residential streets usually don't have actual designations like "5th St" and IIRC the "address" is more of a reference number for their postal route than an incremented number the way we're used to. That's why you typically see someone draw a map when explaining where they live, because they can't say "go down X street, turn right on Y lane, it's number 12345." If Yuki & Kyo only have the general area and the map, they'd still have to try and overlay the map on their smartphone's mapping program. Plus they're looking for a house where the renovations are "finished," so they'd exclude the house as not the right one until they remember that the exterior walls aren't done regardless.

The comedic timing of the original was impeccable. I hope the new version doesn't let us down with the visit to Hana's house.

For some reason they cut Kagura giving Kyo her ~20 lb Ai no Chocolate. They even allude to it with Shigure asking whether she brought chocolate.

I'd highly recommend that people check out the original version of this week's episode. It's by far the funniest thing in the series, and the direction is like Shinbou despite airing before he became a brand.

Like I posted a couple pages (and the better part of a year) back, the split between good and bad parents is more even than you'd realize, because the bad parenting is more pertinent to the plot and the central characters. Also, Akito's family is what the [REDACTED] bit was referring to. I'd argue that the old retainer lady is the closest thing the show has to a pure villain. Even Ren, as awful as she is, is a rather broken person, but the nameless old lady doesn't have that excuse.
