Yeah, I don't really see where they go with this thing either. It's been a tremendous amount of fun but I agree with you and others that I think it's run its course. I don't know how we introduce real stakes anymore unless we get a Big Death or a significant character going into a coma or some poo poo but I think that would push the show too far over into the soap opera end of things. Which, so far, it's been able to find the right balance.

If I'm a writer, I have absolutely no clue to where to start.

OK, Kreese is out of jail and on the lam. Silver is facing charges. AND? So loving what? What do we get, Kreese stalking kids in the bushes wearing a weird disguise and Terry Silver courtroom drama that ends in a karate fight as the judge calls for order in the court while pounding the gavel?

Actually that last part sounds kind of cool

Maybe they convinced Swank to make an appearance.

Problem with Swank is either she shows up for a cameo, like Ali, Kumiko, Jessica or Mike Barnes--which would not giver her what she deserves as a former lead in the franchise, or she shows up for a major role, but that would deserve at least 2 seasons of character development.

It’d be sweet if Swank showed up but if she wouldn’t do it before I don’t know why she would now. She is starring in a network tv show and pregnant.

I agree with this, they've been teasing it since Kreese helped Tory resolve the landlord problem and, there's a theme of redemption that runs through the whole show, AND Kreese would pretty much be the last dangling thread connecting Karate Kid 1 to the end of Cobra Kai. Also predicting he dies immediately after his redemption arc.

The issue is season 6 finished like 95% of the loose ends, and the story felt like maybe two more episodes total would've sufficed to finish off the Kreese and world tournament stories.

The best solution is probably just to do a movie or two, but hopefully whatever they do, they stick the landing.

HI I LIKE TO GIVE ADVICE ON RELATIONSHIPS
Sure, it would be cool to do High School Expendables, but honestly, I'd kind of like to see them just tie up all the story lines and relationship threads. The 80s action movie tropes are great, but what always set Cobra Kai apart as a series, to my mind, is that it was about people and relationships. So lets tie that all up.

Jackie Chan should show up and look at the camera as he patiently explains to the audience that karate and kung-fu are two entirely different martial arts from different countries.

If it is then it’s honestly a godsend. Some shows run way to long and we are already fast approaching “adults in their late 20s pretending to be in high school” territory and we’ve also wrapped up a lot of the core rivalries. This is s good time to end and I doubt the writers had some genius plan that specifically required 7+ seasons.

Well, I mean, okay, but they just pulled that outta nowhere in the most recent season and the main characters have no personal connection to it. Why should they care about participating in it now since Silver’s beaten?

They still built it up as a potentially life changing thing that could lead to scholarships and endorsements. A bunch of kids who trained hard to get into this thing aren’t going to go “ah well, that was last season’s bad guy’s thing, we don’t care”.

Also I think it will be the main driving factor in Cobra Kai remaining open since they secured a spot. The evil lady will probably keep it open and give a “don’t throw away this opportunity just because sensei Silver lied to you” speech.

Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan are teaming up for a new Karate Kid movie. No word on if it's tied to the Cobra Kai-verse or storyline of if it's making the Jaden Smith film part of the mainline series canon, but it's something anyway.

Writing is finished and filming starts/restarts in 2024. https://deadline.com/2023/11/cobra-kai-casts-master-kim-sun-young-cs-lee-season-6-1235611744/

Didn’t realize they filmed the first episode already, nice. Wonder how much recent additional casting will cause rewrites.

Wondering if filming for the new Karate Kid film will impact how much Macchio is available for the final season. Hopefully not at all.

It wouldn't surprise me if they run into Chan's character from the 2010 movie at the Sekai Taikai and use that as the launching pad for the movie.

When I first heard about it, I wondered what kind of bullshit money grab Kobra Kai crossover thing you could really make out of this idea. But after thinking about how Chan's movie should have been called The Kung Fu Kid , I guess they can set it up as a karate/kung fu rivalry since Daniel Larusso is 100% on board the Miyagi-Do train and Jackie Chan is...an actual kung fu expert.

Not sure if it will be canon with the movies and the TV show but it might work if you went that way and then have them both helping some weak, bullied kid for Contrived Reason but then arguing about how to go about it and with the threat of a one on one fight ever present. Except then it's just Kobra Kai again and I don't know how much further they can milk that formula, exactly, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised. We'll get a BvS "Martha" moment when Daniel realizes that Jackie was a custodian just like Pat Morita.

It will probably suck but this has been an unusually large shark they've been able to successfully jump so who knows?

Apparently the Cobra Kai teaming is behind the movie as well, so I highly doubt it'll be entirely divorced from the rest of the Karate Kid canon.

Fun fact, it actually WAS going to be called The Kung Fu Kid, but Jerry Weintraub told them to gently caress off because it would have destroyed the film's brand marketability, even though Jackie Chan was like "Yeah, it's totally The Kung Fu Kid, we all refer to it as The Kung Fu Kid among ourselves, shut up." :eng101:
