There are so many subtle "blink and you miss it" lines in this, not just the easter eggs, but stuff like "My mom's therapist says..."

Does Daniel feel any responsibility?

Gonna go ahead and say "No" on that one, since his star student and former houseguest broke a kid's spine and all he cared about was his daughter's cuts and bruises.

Unfortunately it was kinda hard to avoid spoilers on this, since within like 4 hours of it going up there were Youtube videos titled poo poo like "THE MOMENT ROBBIE KILLS MIGUEL" so I had some idea the season was headed for tragedy. I was imagining that it would end with Daniel and Johnny teaming up, maybe agreeing to do guest lessons at each other's dojos to show the kids it's not an all out war and both schools have their merits. Sure didn't expect both of them to lose their dojos! :stare:

Martin Kove was great; he was everything I hoped for.

TV IV › Cobra Kai Season 3 - I guess someone at Netflix really liked Cobra Kai

Welcome to the dojo my friend. The wait for season 3 may be long but remember Cobra Kai never dies.

I also was surprised by Zabka's acting when I first started watching. I'm glad he did a good job.

Honestly, the show never would have been the hit it was without him and his acting. If it had just been some sequel with Macchio it would have been...OK. Johnny's whole arc and the way Zabka portrays him grabs you from the first episode.

Great show and I really love both seasons. One thing I wondered, since the writers seem to love characters having multiple motivations, is if Ali being a pediatric surgeon ties into Miguel’s injury? I know we saw the friend request on the phone but maybe dealing with Miguel would spin up her conflict with Daniel and Johnny if she’s brought In as a specialist and finds out the high school poo poo is still going on.

The best part of the Ali arc would be the tension of Daniel still having a thing for her quickly get deflated with her and Daniel's wife bonding over how stupid all this is. :allears:

And Cobra Kai's takeover by Creese seemed to suggest there's no "right wing" option that keeps the positive aspects of loyalty and confidence without the cruelty. It's all destructive tribalism without an exit. Maybe we had a naive view of the heroes and villains in the 80's, but there's a reason we're nostalgic for the past– there's actually a chance for a happy ending.

Well I think that "right wing" option is Johnny's Cobra Kai. Where you teach people to stand up for yourself and be loyal and have confidence. Johnny could be a bit regressive and coarse in his language, his teaching methods were sometimes...dubious and unsafe. But he was 90% there with being a good guy who wanted to do the right thing and give a lot of diverse, downtrodden kids a chance. He really took the only good stuff from Creese's Cobra Kai and made it better. And that was wholly from himself, from the kind of person he is. There was always a core of that. Zabka talked about that in an interview. He said what made him "get" the character of Johnny and want to take the role of an rear end in a top hat bully was the line at the end where he congratulates Daniel. That was the defining moment that showed Johnny was a good person deep down, despite the veneer Kreese and his peers laid on him.

But as was said earlier, Johnny is missing the maturity of Daniel's Myagi-do. The stuff about balance, and being nice and fair play. And of course Daniel is all arrogance and privilege who lacks the perspective of working class Johnny. As was said above, the obvious endgame is for the two dojos to merge. Right now it's like in Star Trek where Kirk was split into an aggro rear end in a top hat and a meek mealy goodie. Neither on their own was effective. It was the merging of the two that works. A Cobra Myagi where you can have fun and do a bit of posturing and have confidence, but temper it with balance and good sportsmanship and honor would be fantastic.

All they really do is mention Terry Silver's name alongside Kreese's when reading off the ban decision. Which is a bit weird, since all of Terry's gross evil actions weren't things the committee should know about, but maybe he and Kreese threw a double tantrum in the parking lot after the credits started rolling and karate kicked someone's head off.

I liked the part where Johnny was like "Um, I don't even know that guy."

Finally finished S3. While I called some of it, there were a lot of cool, unexpected things like Johnny Alphaing Miguel's legs to work again, the Kreese flashbacks and the Ali/young Kreese in the diner/Terry Silver in 'Nam fakeouts.

I thought the use of Kumiko and Ali in one episode each to set Daniel and Johnny down the right paths was great. Chozen was next level awesome.

I got serious Star Wars vibes when the "Three Generations of Cobra Kai" were together. It was like ROTJ except Luke is on the side of the Emperor trying to get Vader to join them. Probably the best use of Robbie though cause he's otherwise a drip and drains the fun away when he's moping onscreen.

I've never seen all of KKIII. Probably should watch before S4.

While I definitely enjoyed this season, I couldn't help but feel at times that the show had pretty much run its course. Seeing some of the previous enemies helping each other was wholesome and enjoyable. It would have been a good high note to end on.

With all that said, I have really enjoyed the whole show and am super supportive of everyone involved getting another payday out of it.

:same:

The last episode would have been a perfect finale, I can't see where else they can go with it anyway.

Maybe they convinced Swank to make an appearance.

Plus the tournament, who doesn't like a tournament arc?

Problem with Swank is either she shows up for a cameo, like Ali, Kumiko, Jessica or Mike Barnes--which would not giver her what she deserves as a former lead in the franchise, or she shows up for a major role, but that would deserve at least 2 seasons of character development.
