It is kind of telling that for all the time pressure and mild existential horror in this game, what I dread the most is the whole Glover & Glover questline. Saliba comes a close second, followed by the Sun-in-Rags.

being with Saliba is a lot like working for Glover and Glover because in both cases your boss never smiles, during.

Oh, turns out that romantic entanglements are not unique. I'm on a Priest run and I've seduced both Clifton and Neville (I thought it was amusing, shut up). I think for my next Grail run I will bone the entire cult. This is surely a plan without flaw or possibility of error.

"I want to see what she's in love with."

Great playthrough, it is impressive how much meat is still left on the bones after just one playthrough.

One thing that didn't come up, that is a patch-addition thing, is that you can combine influences like you can with lore. This makes it possible to skip a lot of annoying hurdles or digging through books trying to find enough lore to do things (like summons or upgrading cultists). With hirelings you can buy your way through the starting expeditions. Between that and influences you've got a lot of summons available which can give you more aspects if needed, and summons can handle a lot of expeditions on their own (or with minor help, like a basic hireling or intro cult member).

There are some level 6 lores available through giving some summons stuff as well (and not the super late summons, but the ones that take 6 aspect).

Once you've got some of that all figured out, you can progress your cult pretty fast/far while you're still doing stuff like building up some basic attributes. This really helps cut down on the grindy feeling of the early game, but is definitely not something readily apparent. Even just leveraging hirelings/summons can be nice because having them fail basically just lost you the time to generate them, which lowers (for me at least) the stress of expeditions a lot.

edit: one other thing you didn't mention in your mechanics section that is really, really, really useful: if you look at your 'time passing' verb, it shows the upcoming season. This gives you a 60-second head-start to deal with something that is going to be a problem, or to delay performing an action that could cause a problem.

For example, you see that you'll be getting investigated next season, so maybe wait to murder someone until that is done.

Something that I also realized is that because each time chunk is listed as a season, I just assumed that every 60 second chunk is essentially 4 months of the year and not an individual day. This doesn't seem to be a common thought!

Never trust a bird.
More cool mechanics tips: You can do the Sulochana Technique™ by talking to summons too, so you can preserve two summons at once or a summon and an influence at the same time. Also, sticking a card into an action, but then not starting the action, still freezes the timer. If you're financially stable enough not to need the Work action for a while, you can stick a summon and an influence into the proper ritual to keep them from decaying. Because of the whole "combining influences" mechanic discussed above, you can also use Study to preserve them. There are also some tutorial messages you can abuse to preserve erudition/glimmering/vitality using the Work action, since they can be stuck in there even though you can't actually do anything with them.

Most Work storylets refer to a given session as a day's work and they're about 60 seconds on average.

It's abstracted, mind. You obviously aren't working and studying and travelling and socialising and sleeping all at the same time, the verbs reflect how you divide up that time.

The "next season" thing desperately needs a UI element, both because it's easy to miss for newbies and because it's annoying as hell to check every minute.

It is also maybe one of the most important pieces of info you can get. It pushes a lot of things from "man I sort of got screwed by the rng" to "I've got just enough time to prep for this".

Fair enough. Maybe less than a full season, and more like a week/month-ish? Sort of a standard pay-period of work. Definitely most of the things feel more than a day, even the work things. Sort of a highlight or impactful bit during that time frame.

Or, in the case of Priest, "I need to either develop precognition or work my rear end off to accumulate what I need in the next 120 seconds." Some of which is very much not possible without using delaying tactics.

It's definitely variable and subjective. Working at G&G or unskilled labor feels like a day, painting feels like it takes longer, the various Talk actions probably only take at most a few hours (Although recruiting could take multiple days before you have someone willing to be inducted), and expeditions definitely vary based on distance. You can't tell me it takes the same amount of time to investigate a smuggler's warehouse as it does to travel to Castlevania.

which one? Kennedy hasn't been with Failbetter since '16, while it looks like Weather Factory is still standing by him, but putting things on hold to let it blow over - though they're losing a lot of associations who quit their mentorship program.

Yeah pretty much. I have a week off this coming week, and I was planning to use it to really rattle through the full thing and then just post updates on a schedule, but, well.

It'd be one thing if it was a game made by a team but given that it's pretty much all Kennedy's writing, I can't stomach showcasing it, especially when the context of some of the writing has changed from "I'm imagining myself as abusive" to "I'm imagining myself".

I can´t help wondering how this will affect the Book of Hours kickstarter that was supposed to launch soon. It will probably not gain the same amount of funds that it would have had without these news but I wouldn´t be too surprised if it hits the projected goal anyway.

Most probably Kennedy decides to put it on the backburner until he feels that this have blown over enough.
