Illusion of Gaia/Time is really underrated in the music department I feel, no real remakes or covers exist on YouTube and it's a shame. Interesting fact is the composer for this game did literally nothing before or after this game

I just put this in my n3ds xl with the 60fps patch (the European-only English release is 50fps) and started playing it for the first time yesterday. I'm not in it far but I love it already

Illusion of gaia is in my top five games of all time. my brother's friend loves telling the story of the time we all went on vacation to some rural cabin and I of course brought my Super Nintendo because I'm a huge dork and we had a HUGE infestation of hornets in the living room like two days in so everyone just stayed in their rooms with the doors closed and I wanted to keep playing it so bad that I just said gently caress it and played it while huge swarms of hornets were buzzing around my head the entire time. I still remember what part I was up to, it was Mu. it had to be like 40 hornets, at least.

like, there's one red gem you have to get by going in and out of a cave until a fisherman appears in one of three spots, in a place you can't return to. i'm not sure how you're supposed to know about that without a guide. the game still owns, but it sucks how easy it is to miss the dungeon that literally has a Soul Blazer boss to tie things together.

Yeah that one was bullshit but to be fair the game came with a manual that told you that. it gave you the location of all 50 gems

At the very least that mario paint one I linked sounds exactly like the original, just in 44khz instead of whatever weird sample rate the snes used. But yeah I wish most were like that

i always really liked the secret of evermore music, it's mostly ambient stuff but really well done. you'll go to a market and you hear voices of people shouting and chickens being sold and whatever, then you go into a house and it's the same sounds but kind of muffled, then you go into an open square and you hear the market sounds still in the background a bit but also the wind blowing over the floor tiles and echoes between the buildings on opposite sides of the square, stuff like that

illusion of gaia is like that too. the town theme has the sounds of sea gulls that go along with the song perfectly. i actually thought it was part of the town theme until a town later in the game with no seagulls.

mid 90s snes music was the best

What an oddly random game to have such a good track

Reminds me of "track race" in Dino city for the snes. A bland mediocre platformer with one of the greatest tunes in some random stage

Was it ever a thing that you could put PS1 discs in a regular CD player and could listen to the tracks?

I put the Mortal Kombat 3 disc for the PS1 in my Aiwa boom box CD player when I was a kid and every track was playable. Track one was a horrible noise since it was the data track but track two and up was all audio. I loved it so much because when you started getting to like track 30 all it was was Shao khan voices completely isolated and it was so kickass hearing them like that

I'm actually playing this right now for the first time and just passed this part yesterday. Probably my favorite tune in the game so far.
