Ok someone fill me in here on WTF I missed in Praetoria. I did one mission for Neuron and handed over data to Cole... who is like, "Lol yeah that happens thanks fam," and now suddenly I'm supposed to know all about Primal Earth and that we are going to invade or somesuch bullshit? WTF?

I think if you hit maybe 22 before you finish picking up Neutropolis contacts it just dumps you at the end and skips things. This exact thing you had happened with my Sentinel.

Long story short with the end of the Power arc: Neuron starts a program to make mass produced Cole clones and has you train it up as a replacement for supers but this will not do because it would undermine your personal claim to fame. So you work with Anti-Matter to have it go very publicly berserk so you can put it down. In the morality mission you can either destroy it as ordered or narc on Neuron for bootlicker cred.

The invasion gets brought up in several arcs but again it's super easy to level up fast enough that you miss entire contacts, which makes the entire Praet story become pretty disjointed as many arcs feed directly off earlier ones.

E: ^^^ oh wow that's an amazing change that I didn't even realize I wanted.

Stalker is very soloable at moderate notoriety. You can use Assassin Strike from Hidden to open up by deleting the most dangerous lt or minion, and put many bosses down 1/2 to 3/4 of their max hp. This will also put fear and -ToHit on nearby enemies, allowing you to clear through a few more or finish the boss before things get more serious. One of the ATO Stalker sets has an enhancement that will put you back in Hide on a crit, which you should absolutely put in Assassin Strike so you can hide again and immediately crit with your second strongest attack after you kill the first guy.

Outside of Hide, AS is an instant cast instead of an interruptible move. It won't auto crit by default, but by using other primary attacks you build up stacks of Focus that can be spent to guarantee a crit with your AS. Between the initial attack from Hidden, Placate, Focus, and the ATO chance to hide, you can potentially get a lot of use out of AS in the middle of a fight to spin around and wipe out a full hp minion while you finish off another with regular attacks.

In a straight up fight they have less staying power than a Scrapper or Brute but the whole point is to kill dudes before it turns into a straight up fight. Ambushes are an annoyance because they can detect you despite Hide (use terrain to force them get close so you can at least open with a non-AS crit) and EB/AV level enemies with extremely high resistance to your damage type or passive AoE damage fields (Silver Mantis :orks:) suck to deal with.

All Stalkers also have the benefit of being able to speed run any mission that isn't a kill all or escort, so if your main concern is not jumping into a Brute sized pile of moms mooks and demolishing them all, Stalkers solo really well

For the most part, three slot Stamina with endurance mod IOs, and maybe an end reduction IO in attacks and a couple per toggle depending on which exact power sets you're using. Sometimes you might want to leave toggles turned off if you don't expect to need them, also.

Alternately, buddy up with a friend that can give you recovery boosts.

Welp I finally dragged myself to my first 50 on Homecoming (on a Defender of all things). I don't suppose there's a quick and dirty list of "absolutely get these IOs, consider these IOs"? I honestly can't remember all of the must get individual enhancements and sets, though I know a lot of it is just tailoring things in Mids to your liking after that.

On the other hand it's a Defender and is already a pretty potent force multiplier on a team even with just common IOs, so maybe I should just not worry about going full crazy with IOs until I get a Stalker or Brute up to 50?

The recipe for that one also consistently sells for something like 20 mil. This is an enhancement where you want a lower level version for exemplaring, right? It looks like all you lose by using the level 25 version over the level 50 version is a minor amount of +def.

Right. One copy of any given enhancement in a power, which is why people will get Hover and Combat Jumping and the like.

An Attuned enhancement is always your level. So it will grow with you, and if you Exemplar down, it will drop down to match, so you can keep the set bonuses. You can Attune an IO by using a Catalyzer on it.

Do note that Attuning does not allow for IOs to function outside of their regular levels. Kinetic Combat is always going to be a 20-35 set, for example, so Attuning it will not let it give you level 50 numbers, and Attuning a set of Mako's Bite is still not going to let you drop below 27 (the minimum to equip the set at all) and keep the bonuses.

Is this a different process than making ATOs purple or is it catalysts in both cases?

I spent way too long in Mids last night, having forgotten just how deep your can fall into that thing. I ended coming up with a build that's only sort of aspirational? Several cheap uncommon sets and a few plain IOs on top of the big ticket ones, and it still gets almost to the defence soft cap (the difference made up with -ToHit), perma Hasten, 95% mez resists, and like 250% recovery.

The joke is the build is for a Defender :negative:

Speaking of titles, it kind of sucks that low level Praetorian characters have some unique title options available to them, but by the time you hit 30 they're overwritten by the standard hero/villain titles at the trainer. So I'll never be able to have two nonsense Resistance-speak titles at once.

Is the alpha slot damage buff worthwhile for a beam rifle defender if I've already got all my buffs on perma, don't have consistent holds (but when a hold does land it lasts basically forever), have no problem hitting things, and already have as much endurance as I could ever hope to need? None of the other alpha slot buffs really seem to apply in my case.

According to the incarnate guide in the old thread, Incarnate Threads can be used to make the alpha slot stuff that you normally use Incarnate Shards for, but I can't find where in the menus to do that? They only seem to convert to mats for the 2nd tier of slots.

Thundarr
Dec 24, 2002

I'm time manipulation primary. I've already got perma Power Boosted Farsight so hitting things and not being hit back are already covered about as well as they can be before I set bonuses. I guess healing and hold alpha sets are also possibilities but nothing really jumps out and says definitely take this.

I'll check later if I maybe just wasn't scrolling down far enough in the alpha mats menu.

OH! I think I see now. I was confused since those were different mats than was listed on the Create tab, but I actually had to scroll down on the Create tab to see the option to use those mats to make the ability. It wasn't letting me scroll down on that tab at first since I had to double click the slot, otherwise as soon as I stopped mousing over it the ability to scroll was lost. Thanks, I think I can actually get a thing slotted now!

3/4 minions or two LTs or one boss is a fairly good baseline for standard player challenge. Obviously a lot of people can do way better than that given experience and builds, but pretty much anybody should be able to tackle that level of challenge on their own (excepting some over-tuned boss types at low level).

Though thanks to the other reminders of Jack's early reign of terror, I remembered why I left my day one Invuln/SS tank lost in the Shadow Shard for a year after CoV was released: he'd gone from unstoppable Superman to every villain's punching bag by that point.

How do you even tell which IOs are attuned and which aren't? If I search for a set at min/max level 50 on the AH and the results are six IOs and six recipes, does that mean the IOs are automatically attuned if I buy them instead of the recipes?

I've been mostly buying recipes and crafting them so maybe I screwed myself out of a lot of cash, I dunno.

Thundarr
Dec 24, 2002

Darn. I have all but 3 and a half powers with level 50 IOs and about 25 mil in cash, so I guess I'd better farm up some money to afford the AH fees from flipping all that.

I'm guessing standard IOs can just be boosted to 53 since there's no set bonus to worry about?

Thundarr

That's true. I still have a big pile of converters and could easily get a lot more (or boosters depending on exchange rate).

Thundarr

I created the Control power for my hybrid slot since I couldn't really decide which to use and eventually settled on adding even more ways to keep enemies still while boosting my own mez resistance by a large amount. This slot gives me a power that looks like a toggle, acts like a toggle, and says it's a toggle, but it turns itself off after a few minutes with a two minute cooldown. That was kind of disappointing.

Maybe it does that out of some attempt at balance so that I don't just forever have the ability to fear and immobilize everything I shoot, but then I look at every Judgement ability and remember that nothing about Incarnate powers is in the same zip code as balanced.

Incarnate stuff has also been way less of a grind than I expected. I've only done about half the DA arcs and not a single Incarnate trial and I've already got a t4 alpha, t3 Judgement, and everything else at tier 1 or 2. Just been doing a bunch of normal stuff like PI door missions and task forces.

I'm trying to come up with a good elementalist build and Storm is probably going to be a large component.

Is the solo Defender damage bonus good enough to go that route or should it just be a Corr?

It depends. I have been pretty successful when I solo with a time/beam defender but it's still pretty slow, even with beam rifle being a relatively high dps set. You will definitely rely on your buffs/debuffs to keep you alive while you whittle things down even with the damage buff. It's still a lot more stable than blaster soloing where if you don't win in the first few seconds you're in trouble unless you have a really solid survival strategy or lots of purps.

A corrupter kind of sits in the middle and leans more on damage output than buffs to survive but as a result will kill things faster as long as you don't bite off more than you can chew.

None of that really matters after you get loaded up with IO sets and incarnate powers though, so level up using the archetype and power combo you enjoy playing rather than what seems more efficient or powerful during the ride from 1-49.

I dropped into a level 46 PI mission team last night (still need to find Siege for Portal Jockey) and man, it's just kind of silly how op you get after you are loaded up with IOs and incarnate powers. Thundarr

For a rad/fire farmer brute, should I pick up Weave or just rely on purples and Burn for defense / immobilize resistance? Boxing and Kick seem to do basically the same damage as Contaminated Strike which is *ok*, but Weave has pretty anemic base defense and it seems that I might get better mileage out of other powers given that you need to spend three power choices on it.
