Yeah there are a few massive deliveries in the game that you really, really want a truck for, and the truck is awful at offroading, so it's not generally worth attempting those until you have a proper road network built. Once you have a truck though, getting the road network up doesn't actually take too long, since you can yank a ton of resources out of each shelter/distro center and load up your truck and just kind of keep driving along finishing each section as you go.

I just started a second play through and I forgot how bad the start is for that as well. It might not be quite as much cutscene as the end, but you still only get about ten minutes of gameplay in the first hour of the game

I finally started Death Stranding (Director's Cut, PC version) today after having bought it four years ago, and I really like what I've played so far! (which is about 7 hours)

I don't know how, but in all the time it's been out, I was able to go into it not knowing anything about what the game was about, so the opening hours of it was wild. Between the rain that ages people, the BTs, the baby-in-a-jar being a way to see the BTs, the huge explosion, Sam being able to come back to life, and the first real mission being porting Sam's mom (who is also the president) to incinerate her body so it also doesn't explode, it's quite a trip. It takes a while to the game to actually start because of all that, but once it does, it's pretty engaging.

From what little I saw of the game beforehand, it seemed like they tried to more-or-less replicate the Fox Engine, because the UI seemed to be similar to the iDroid from MGS5. Actually playing it, the movement is also very similar to MGS5, but the stamina bar reminded me a bit of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and the ability to leave signs and that there's tools, paths, and packages left by other players seem to be taking a cue from FromSoft games.

I'm playing on Normal difficulty, and I haven't had any deaths, nor have I dropped any containers, even when carrying very large loads. I had a close call with BTs once, but I got out of it okay. BTs seem to be more annoying than difficult to deal with. I don't know when you're supposed to hold your breath (I assume when you're right up close to them), but I keep it held when in the general proximity. The irritating thing is that the button to hold your breath (R1) is also the same button you have to press to ping the sensor and highlight where they're standing. BB's radar points towards the closest one, but because there's a few of them in an area, you don't want to sidestep one and run into another.

I've done the Wind City mission, and once I got back to the town, I built a generator and was able to power up the bike outside and zip back to the capital.

The highlight of the game so far is using the bathroom, and finding out it generates "number one" and "number two" grenades. :xd:

I also went in completely blind despite coming to it years late. I consider trying to explain it in much of any detail and I just... realize that unless I go absolutely the most bare-bones possible, in a way that doesn't really capture much of anything about the game, I'm just gonna sound like I'm poo poo-posting. I don't know, does anyone else feel like that's why they kept their peace about it? Because it's simultaneously wilder than it sounds while also not actually being quite as wild as it sounds?

I completed the road from Lake Knot City down to South Knot. Partway I realized that it was in an unconnected region because I hadn't visited the Collector so I had to take several side trips until he had what he wanted. There was a big gap toward the end and it took alot of trips and building a couple of zip lines to go back and forth with materials, but it's done. I'll be working my way up into the mountains next and will pick up what I think is the only prepper I missed. Not trying to 5 star anyone, I just want to see the road go all the way through considering how drat hard traveling was in that region.

I had the same sort of feeling while writing my post, because even though I'm sure everyone what happens in the game, what I initially wrote felt like I was being facetious or flippant about it.

*watches the trailer* "Why is Guillermo Del Toro holding a baby enclosed in a pod? So weird!" *plays the game* "Oh, I guess it's not that weird after all."

The whole idea of BBs reminds me of something from some other series where they had a similar concept, but I can't remember what it was exactly (could also be that I'm thinking of something from folklore).

Also, I have to ask. Is the guy at the Ludens Camp models after Geoff Keighley?

Ugh, I just found out the changing the difficulty reloads your last save. Not sure if I missed a warning about that but fuuuuuck. I'm currently doing the mission to transport the nuke to South Knot, during which you can't save. I hadn't build the roads much past the distro centre, so I was doing those as I went. Built three or four new sections. I'm playing on very hard, so as I approached South Knot, I decided to turn it down in anticipation of a boss fight. Guess who just lost all their road building progress!

so many moments in death stranding where you go 'Oh, THATS what that trailer was all about... well okay then', it makes me laugh when I hear people talk about how indecipherable the game and claim they beat it because there's just no way. everything that happens in the game is pretty clearly explained in a way that's really a lot more sensible than say some of MGS4's conclusions. It's the most tight package Kojima has put out in ages and yet somehow it comes off as insane to say that I feel lol

Just started episode 6, which I get the feeling will probably be annoying due to not having BB. Still enjoying it though, and I was well pleased with myself for examining the map closely to find an easily navigable pass to the east of Mountain Knot City.

When you connect an area to the network, all the pavers in that area will get ~50% filled. Before an area is connected they'll all be empty.

During my road building I found a quest chain that was still underway for data chips and I had to retrieve one from a terrorist camp. I built a bola gun and a couple of grenade launchers and headed out. I managed to negate their ping so I was able to creep up to an outcropping above their camp and wow the range on that grenade launcher was amazing. I was popping off sleep rounds all over the place until they were all out.

Or I thought they were, because as I made my way down to their postbox a couple seemed to wake up so I blasted them, grabbed the chip and made a run for their truck. At that point they all seemed to wake up because I was getting shot at from all over but I tore off and made it out unscathed. So I guess the sleep rounds aren't like knocking people out from the bola or kicking them.

I'm now heading toward what I think is the last prepper I didn't connect so I can get back to road building.

EDIT: I'm near the Photographer and there's a paver that requires an immense amount of materials but is in a networked area. There's no preppers left unconnected save the First Prepper and he's nowhere near here. The paver's at the southern edge of a terrorist camp. The one not far north was normal, but the next southern paver seems far away. Perhaps that's why. But I have a truck full of materials and they're barely going to put a dent in the total.

I cut my first BT umbilical cord yesterday entirely by accident due to (episode 6) not having BB with me; the prompt just came up while I was sneaking and I took my chance. I was pleased with myself, and then that feeling turned to laughter as the BT gave me a like. I really like this game.

Honestly I want any game to have a full scale and size Earth map using every topological and geological survey data map available. I took a class on GIS stuff once and it was mad boring but I loved the lectures that talked about landscapes and what's in em and where.

As far as I know it's basically Minecraft Earth which isn't great and Microsoft Fly Simulator but I assume it's more fun to scroll around Google Earth so you can look at stuff up close, not fly past it all fast.

The cutscene where you meet Heartman... some of it is obviously meant to be funny, but I'm not sure about some of the other bits. I thought the lake looked less like a heart and more like the imprint of a giant pair of testicles. That it's Nicholas Refn's likeness is just the cherry on top of the total absurdity.

I've been finding the bit immediately after that a bit of a slog. Not so much because of the increased number of BTs (I actually kind of like those bits because they're nice and tense but not overly difficult) but because of the snowstorms and all that. I've heard that it doesn't get much better in the tar pits, but I'm kind of looking forward to the return of Moby Dick Studios anyway.

I think it’s mostly because the distances and terrible terrain. I hated this part of the game and just stopped doing anything other than do the minimum to progress the story.

BT’s were always easy to deal with, in my first playthrough of the prologue I managed to just stealth my way through the river route and avoid all the BT’s, at a time when I didn’t exactly recognize all the signs that you were getting close. Once you get your first grenades they are utterly trivialized, and once you get the cuff’s it’s basically a cakewalk dealing with them.
