I’m excited to finally make Duran a light class since shields will actually do something finally!

Even though shields didn't do anything making him a Lord was good because you could get multi-target heal light and take someone else in place of Carlie.

This kind of crept up on me with big name games like Doom and RE3 Remake being released in the coming months. I've played through SD3 on the SNES probably about 50 times over the years and can't wait to go into this with my old Death Hand/Necromancer/Star Lancer murder squad. They can even make it so Energy Ball actually works this time.

How has Legend of Mana aged? It definitely had its personality but the lack of a strong plot kind of turned me away from replaying the game.

Legend of Mana was still fun for me despite not understanding several major game mechanics. Presumably you're supposed to plan where you place towns and other areas on the map so they have some sort of synergy being adjacent to one another but I just dropped them wherever they would fit and blundered through the story. There was something about golem building that I never understood or engaged with the slightest bit, as well as a similar thing with hatching friendly enemies from eggs or something like that. It still has the Mana series charm and it's worth playing through but expect to be confused by a lot of the game's systems.

It won't be a true remake unless they can replicate your allies running around in circles and dying because the AI can't figure out how to attack the boss.

If difficulty is faithful to the original, the three machine golems before the ice mana stone will arbitrarily be one of the hardest fights in the game.

The ability to turn on permanent sprint out of combat in the options is a nice QOL touch.

The bees in the Mispolm area drop ??? seeds but it's at such a low rate you might as well just play the game normally instead of trying to farm them. I'm two god-beasts down and have everyone at level 50 already because I've farmed the same room with a group of 4 bees over and over and only gotten one seed from it.

e: Also Kevin's light-dark and dark-dark classes seem to have swapped since the original. Changed into what I thought was the Death Hand equivalent and it has me learning Moon Sabre eventually instead of Energy Sphere.

These seeds absolutely will not give me either class 3 or 4 weapons for Kevin. Flower pot maxed out, everyone is level 80+ with every other piece if top level gear and RNG just keeps missing it. Gonna just give up and fight this witch with the fists from Pedan.

Playing my second run with Angela, Duran and Hawkeye. Got all six class change items in the first six ??? seeds and was able to get them all to class 3 right at level 38, thinking of buying some scratch-off tickets.

Class 4 seems to use the same gear that the Class 3 does, at least from what I've been getting from silver/gold seeds on a max level pot. So it's pretty ok to just run on through.

There's separate ultimate gear for class 4 that you can get from seeds. On my first playthrough Lise had her ultimate weapon as Star Lancer and got a better one later on after she class changed up to Valkyrie.

Is it possible to get 6 ??? seeds without fighting a Benevodon or purposely going through the dungeons to get the guaranteed one from the chest?

The bees in the Mispolm area drop them at a very low rate, probably some other enemies in the Benevedon dungeons. The drop rate is low enough that it would be easier to just go through all the dungeons and go for the guaranteed chest seeds while running away from everything, in my last run I farmed the same area with a group of four bees from level 34 to 38 and didn't get a single seed.

Yeah, I wish it were more possible to make a more active play style on Vanadys at least, so then you have two support, passive classes and two more active hybrids.

When do people find Angela starts to get really overpowered? I just finished the ghost ship and her spells are very strong, but not really sustainable even with the cost reduction power and Victory MP Boost. She tears through bosses quickly, but spending so much on walnuts makes it harder to upgrade my gear. Overall I feel she’s still weaker than melee characters at this point and more of a hassle to play.

Starts to get strong once you unlock lucent beam, gets overpowered once you get later game abilities and can cast it without worrying about mana. Spend a few points in strength early on just to get the mana restoration on power attacks, if you equip both of them at once it helps a lot with mana sustain.

Angela was absolute garbage hardmode on SNES and I won't hear otherwise. Between the cast times, MP limit (forcing you to use another precious item slot on walnuts), and ubiquitous back-half spell counters she made absolutely no sense to use from a gameplay perspective, just absolutely murdered any battle momentum

Makes it all the sweeter that she's insanely good in the remake

She never really stood a chance with the way menus work. Why bother going through loops of bringing up the ring menu, selecting your spell, selecting your target, then watching the spell animation when you can just put Kevin in your party and have him hit stuff? Carlie's Heal Light and Lise's stat ups/downs were impactful enough to bother going through with it, just getting damage comparable to a basic attack made her a hassle to use with no real benefit. Not sure she did more damage than a Death Hand even if you were reliably exploiting elemental weaknesses.

Even if they had given her the basic "cast your own spells" AI like in the remake I still probably wouldn't have used her because you'd still have to keep pausing to wait for the spell animations.

So that's promising!

Extremely unlikely, but they should either remake Einhander or make a new one to current-gen standards. Would presumably take a lot less effort than remaking these long, sweeping RPGs but at the same time sidescrolling shooters seem to have completely dropped off as a genre.

1. How much do story pairings actually add? I'm thinking about picking Hawkeye as the main character and I'd like Angela in my party. Will I be missing out on some meaningful stuff if I don't also take Riesz?

2. People say you don't really need a healer below the highest difficulties, but will I end up grinding money a bunch in the early/mid game to afford healing items if I don't bring someone who can learn healing spells? Or is it really no big deal?

3. If I end up going with Hawkeye/Riesz/Angela, what would be a fun class combo? I was considering Rogue/Fenrir Knight/Grand Diviner but I'm not sure if that's going to leave holes that will be annoying to deal with.

1. Mostly just a bit of banter that you won't see if they're not together in your party. Nothing significant to the story and I think you'll still see Hawkeye hitting on Reisz when they run into each other anyway when their paths align by chance. I forget if they kept Angela calling out Duran for his porn collection, probably not.

2. The game is pretty casual unless you're playing on hard, healing items should be just fine to get you through. If it feels like you're still having trouble, Kevin and Duran can both learn Heal Light if you take their light class changes. If you don't have either of them, you can stock up on Poto Oil at the black market to get multi-target healing from an item.

3. Probably go opposite class change between Hawkeye/Reisz so you can have both stat ups for your own team and stat downs for the enemy. Unless they rebalanced it since I played, Angela was laughably overpowered and could kill everything singlehandedly by spamming Holy Bolt+ over and over. Not sure it even matters much which class you pick for her.

Basing some of my answers on the original rather than Trials of Mana but I think most of it is carried over.
