Also sorry about this poo poo, I'll try to give more of an advance warning. Honestly I didn't think it'd 504 the joint, but the search db has a bunch of really old poo poo in it apparently, and it was choking the disc. We're going to try deleting it (we made a backup, don't worry) and we're gonna see if that helps late tonight when we attempt to re-re-re-re-re-re-index search again. And also don't worry, we've analyzed the problem and figured out why the search indexer stopped twice this year, this should not happen again after this indexing.

of course it will, thanks ZDR for taking my money and disappearing without leaving any docs detailing the backend, you motherfucker

If I can make a deal with Cloudflare, I can get them even faster by enabling some dynamic optimization service on their end, but there's no way in gently caress I'm doing it now, because last time I turned it on to test for a couple days (and it definitely worked), but my monthly bill went from $200 to over $3000 I believe (because it charges based on traffic, not a flat rate).

Also heads up, we're trying our new, experimental way of re-indexing the forums tonight / very early tomorrow morning. This could result in slow load times, 504s, timeouts, the deletion of the entire forum, access to other users' credit card info, becoming a real jackass like Jeff Fahey in The Lawnmower Man, wizard issues and more. So don't say I didn't warn you.
