Ninja Warrior finished their season last night, and five people made it to stage 4. Not a single one achieved total victory, and I would hope they tear the Las Vegas course down and make it twice as hard like the Japanese producers do when they have so many successful competitors. Who am I kidding, they'll let all the finalists climb the rope instead.

christian carrion, co-writer at buzzerblog, is doing a thing for the strong museum's history of game shows, producing a series of interviews of contestants for their archives. if you or anyone you know was on a game show and would like to talk about their appearance, cribs would like to talk to you:

quote:

Contestants, in my opinion, are as important to the TV game show as the sets, the music, and the hosts. Part of what fascinates TV viewers about good game show contestants is that, although they're united in their quest for victory, winnings, or even fame, they come from all walks of life and bring their own unique stories -- and personalities -- to the table. Each episode of this project will feature a conversation between me and a former game show contestant. As a six-time contestant myself, I'm excited to learn all about their stories, their victories, the lessons they may have learned from their experiences, and how they feel about having had their own unique role in the ongoing story of TV game shows.

Were you a contestant on a game show? Would you like to talk about your experience for this project? Email me at strongcontestants@gmail.com . I can't wait to hear from you.

I would also appreciate any and all sharing of this post, whether it be on social media or among friends you know who were on game shows. I'm excited beyond words to talk to as many contestants as possible. Thanks!

i'll drop a mention of this post in the jeopardy thread.

Not all that great hence why it was yanked quickly but Alex certainly shines as a host.

High Rollers will really put Alex on the map the next year.

Lori has the edge that she can blow up your product quickly with her QVC angle for sure.

However, and this might not be a popular opinion, I think Barbara is the shrewd one to make a deal with.
I could be talking out of my rear end but I thought I read somewhere that Barbara's shark tank portfolio was the most successful out of all of them but that was years ago so it's likely changed.

Lingo is coming soon to CBS next year, with a different set than what is normal.

And, it seems like Supermarket Sweep isn't returning to television.

However, Bothers Bar found this French channel of French game shows if that's your thing (international game shows are always fun!)

If you've been seeing the UK thread, you'll know about THE TRAITORS, well it turns out the UK and US productions worked together (same crew, same challenges, etc.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3rqVPKOKfQ

And yes, it's Alan Cumming as the host! Hooray, all you fans of musical theater in the TVIV.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN_4CSh7SSw

on Game Show Network, a brand new game show called "Switch" debuts, it's hailed as "the game show without a scoreboard" and let's see how it shakes up!

The Chase returns tonight, featuring more people trying to play against trivia masterminds, and sometimes the talented Buzzy Cohen, find out which Jeopardy Alum is there this week!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80kX89wy_MI

Oh, and LIMITLESS WIN has returned, featuring a better virtual reality studio (it goes from PS3 quality to now, actually passable PS5 level)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JCq_hmNhJs

This year has Netflix possibly finally trying to beat Mr Beast at a Squid Games reality show, but WHO KNOWS how well that will do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xkbb6pBOYKg

They also have like, their 19th food related cooking show, forget "iron chef" and "nailed it" and "easy bake battle" and "is it cake?" and "baking impossible" and "the final table" and "best leftovers ever" and "drink masters" and "snack vs chef" and "cook at call costs" and "the american barbecue showdown" and "cooked with cannabis" and "sugar rush" and maybe this obscure show called "Great British Bake-Off" this show is different, because.... because.... uhhhhh....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5JkvdVGJP0

Anyway, there is a Deal or No Deal Universe youtube channel, and some of it includes the UK variant with Noel Edmonds (and Mr. Blobby???)

but it's mostly howie, and practically every episode is already on PlutoTV at the moment.

and finally,
RUN FOR THE MONEY
(fresh from the Netflix Reality Series RUN FOR THE MONEY: BATTLE ROYALE)

is actually getting an ANIME!

That's right, a game show, becoming an anime! What a silly world we live in!

And also,

And just because it's worth noting -

Over the weekend, Michael Tiller, a friend to the game show fandom passed away in a battle with kidney failure. There are a ton of jerkwads making fun of his sickness and death, and it's just sorta hosed up.

For most people, you'll most likely only know him for uploading old game show episodes to YouTube, and for others "he's cringe because of this one YouTube video and being religious" (or something)

Somehow, The Wall returned. I want to say they're burning off episodes of a prior production run, but who knows how NBC is going to stretch their non-scripted slate. I also learned American Ninja Warrior Seasons 15 and 16 are being shot back to back, which probably keeps an hour of NBC's schedule shored up for the season.

I confused this with Hole in the Wall and was briefly excited. The Fox version (season one) was passably fun but the later Cartoon Network version was dreadful.

Yeah, I couldn't figure out if The Wall was actually new or if these were from the run that (I think) they did for Peacock. Not actually watching it, so didn't check much beyond that. Amazing to gently caress up the concept of Giant Plinko with trivia by drawing it out worse than Deal or No Deal. Just terrible to watch. Also one of my least favorite prize bits where they put up giant numbers as possible but anyone with basic observation skills understands that it's just going to seesaw all game along with acting like there's anything other than luck dictating the drops.

I loving hate The Wall because that end bit is the most cruel poo poo in the world and they drag it out for forever. Having one of the two competitors basically flipping a coin as to whether or not they get a buttload of money or zero money and then making the other person give a big dramatic speech right in their face is just unbearable

Also, I know that it's cliche to hate on game shows being formulaic, but despite insisting on making it a crazy drawn out speech it was always the same format. They make it sound like they picked X, but really they picked Y. Every time, without variance, I'm pretty sure. Just a weird, garbage show.

Wonder if that means that they're burning it off. I thought it sucked pretty bad. Which is a shame because you could probably make the concept work. Just bring back Monster Garage I guess. It'd be more fun than just making a big, non-working car out of foam and body kits for an hour.
