M4A polls well with freaking Republicans as policy. Most people against it are wilfully misunderstanding it at this point, at best.

Dynasties never go away until they are destroyed. Or centrists. The success of Obama's centrism means you need more centrism. The failure of Hillary's centrism means you need more centrism.

Bernie's doing a better job of staying on brand than anyone else. Anger must keep you spry.

The whole 'I have friends who are frightened and traumatised by Bernie' thing has been a recurring feature of this thread. Never the poster themselves.

Ytlaya posted:I'm not sure if "Buttigieg becoming better at pretending to be progressive" is particularly desirable. I feel like it's actually been a massing blessing in disguise that Democratic politicians have been so bad at faking left-wing politics. All it would take is someone being a good actor and lying through their teeth, and I think they could succeed at tricking enough people to defuse any legitimate left-wing movement. But fortunately all these people are incapable of pulling off a convincing imitation. This also extends to how they probably could have co-opted AOC and other leftists in the long run, but their complete inability to stop enabling Republicans means that having any kind of consistent moral standards inevitably brings them into conflict and having extremely normal ones on twitter about how those ungrateful undecorous leftists won't even vote to fund the concentration camps, and the Republicans won't go along with the attempt to draw a divide and gladly take the excuse to paint all Democrats as filthy socialists anyway.

Trabisnikof posted:They’re only unreachable so long as you offer them no believable alternative. That’s why the jobs guarantee is a critical part of the GND. If we’re going to get people to go along with the massive changes we need we have to promise to bring them along too. This is the key thing, and utter anathema to a lot of liberals who've bought into the 'meritocracy' myth.

It's not like there's a shortage of work that needs to be done, see your country's crumbling infrastructure, the shortage is of employers who are willing to pay people to do it.

Now he has a record and it sucks poo poo and has provided numerous examples of his utter suck for most Americans. He has his floor, but I think his ceiling is a lot lower this time around. It probably plummets even further if we have a recession before the election and they tie it all back to his tariff slap fights with everyone. Eh, depends on when he gets full on back in election mode and the media continues to cling to him like a smitten teenager to provide a megaphone to get his base into full on death cult mode.
