BEat Bloodstained and I think I've played about as much as I'm going to (I have 100% map, creatures, shards and side quests complete and anything passed that is gonna be a horrendous grind).

It was quite good though also really didn't do anything you wouldn't expect. It's an Igavania. It's fun.

The good
Plays very well
Insane amount of abilities and weapons, some of which are very fun
Can be really pretty sometimes
Fantastic music
Great movement abilities and in general exploring is really fun
The right stick abilities are surprisingly great
Lot of stuff to do with some cool Easter eggs
By the end of the game you feel like a god that can just rip apart anything in the game, which I always love.

The Bad
Uneven difficulty
Grindy systems
Pacing does not reach a happy medium between railroading and letting you just wander. Too often there was only one place to go with no indication of where to go next other than a shop hint.
Key abilities never felt like they opened up enough
Some useless abilities (almost all the R1 abilities especially) and also some ones you almost never have a good reason not to use.
Uninspired sidequests
Didn't love the way whips felt

The mixed:
The story is just sort of there, as is most of the voice acting. The voices in general were not as bad as I feared but some of them could get really annoying.
Enemy design is all over the place, with the main goal often being to be legally distinct from Castlevania enemies)
Buggy but I also never encountered anything too bad.
Which there was more character dressup customization but what was there was still fun.

So overall it was pretty great. It's hard to compare it to the other Bloodstained game because while that was a delightful surprise, this was almost exactly what I expected.

Completed: mario maker 2 story mode

Review: its ok. Not the meat of the game but enough levels to make it not a truly awful purchase if you cant get online i suppose.

Criticism: too many mario 3d world levels. Levels more like gimmick demos than a real campaign.

I mean, that's the point. The main reason they exist is to give you ideas and to show you how the gimmicks work (and since 3DW is all new, it would show up the most)

The ad is weird because it just seems to be trying to sell the Switch again but with less features. Like it shows off all these things it can do that are the things that a normal Switch can do, but they don't want to just say "it's worse and can't play all Switch games but it's cheaper" so they kind of dance around it

If every hardware upgrade they've made is any indication, it will effect like 10 games, max.

Yeah. This. Metroid is the older game but I think the fact that like 6 Castlevanias came out in a row did a ton more to establish the genre and because of that most of them really only take the things from Metroid that SotN took from Metroid.

If we're being honest the genre should be named after Zelda anyways (that's the earliest exploration based game where progress is gated by items that give you new abilities that I know of anyways).

Which only supports my point. Even the origin of the term was based in the fact that Metroid was the source of the genre, and Castlevania was simply incorporating Metroid elements.

There are a ton of ways a Diablo like game can go very wrong so I just sort of want something more than first impressions because really with things like that it becomes about how long it can keep mashing through crowds fun. This is a series that has taken a long break, is being handled by new people with a much more interfering IP holder so I don't think it's really unreasonable to want to wait for some better impressions
