Welcome to the son of the 90's thread. This is the place for the 2000's, which doesn't seem that far until you remember they started almost 20 years ago. Or 19, if you count 9/11 as the start As a early 2000's kid, here are some pics of my first cellphone, the Motorola V300, which I got as a birthday present in early 2004: Have fun!

The best thing about the 2000s was that nobody had to give a poo poo about Donald Trump if they didn't want to.

Remember when people had Survivor parties? I remember watching it, and big brother and all the other lovely reality TV shows that came soon after and realizing the 2000s were going to suck hard.

The 2000's were squarely my 20's, and a good portion of the first part of that decade involved me being up late as gently caress for my current old man rear end. I spent a lot of time working 2nd/3rd shift, or unemployed. For summer 2003 when I moved to Kansas, from about July until that December when I got a job, I would stay up until about 2am watching Adult Swim and shitposting on these very forums. That was a weird, magical time for some reason. In mid-2004, I switched jobs, that was from 5:30pm until 4:00am, I was back to night mode, and it was kinda nice for a work environment. All the important people went home by 6:00, and the second shift shop was gone by midnight, leaving me and 2 others there to do our poo poo and listen to George Noory on Coast 2 Coast AM. After a bunch of poo poo went down there, I left for a day job in 2006/ During that 2003 to 2006 time-frame, I played a lot of different MMOs (remember they called them MMORPGs at the time) during the day. Star Wars: Galaxies, Enter the Matrix, Everquest 2, a couple other smaller cash ins I can't remember. Of course I played WoW, that was only about 6 months though as I could never get into it, I had a friend who was playing it, but he quit about a month into my tenure. My favorite MMO though was City of Heroes, I played that incessantly, left a few times an came back, which I can't say for any of the other MMOs. Thermos posted:Remember when people had Survivor parties? Yeah, I hated Survivor. The rest of family still loves it. My parents definitely celebrated the season finales. We lived on the west coast at the time it started, and due to a quirk with DirecTV, we were able to get the East Coast feeds, so Survivor was on TV at 6:00 sharp every Thursday. During the finales, if I wanted pizza I had to watch that garbage show with them instead of chatting with my online girlfriend on AIM My parents still watch Survivor "live," now they TiVo it and wait 20 minutes so they can fast forward through the commercials.

Oh man I love so many pop songs from 2000-2010! Agree that Hey Ya! was the best, though. edit: just for content, and I have bad taste so no need to take me to task for any of these, but my favorites based on a quick scan of my spotify list: Mr. Brightside, I Believe in a Thing Called Love, Since U Been Gone, Gold Digger, Maps, Party in the USA, Bad Romance, Drop It Like It’s Hot, Paper Planes, Party Hard, X Gon' Give It to Ya, Welcome to The Black Parade ones that didn't get a lot of US play AFAIK: Suzie (Boy Kill Boy), Parachute (Shugo Tokumaru), Hooplas Involving Circus Tricks (Say Hi), Grounds for Divorce (Elbow), Armchairs (Andrew Bird) pangstrom has a new favorite as of 15:35 on Jul 9, 2019 |

Napster, Morpheus, and it was still legal to "steal" music. Started college a week before 9/11. Heard about it on Howard Stern show and watched whatever tower fall on the TV at the school pub.

I always liked Andre 3000s Roses. I remember working listening to this song and everything go real quiet just before "shes the definition of the word BITCH" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWju37TZfo0 For the longest time I thought Kat Williams was a woman who's bit was to play a male character., mostly because of those. Also Kevin McDonald! When I worked at HMV, I'd jokingly sing along to Party in the USA with "Doing some coke like ya, showing my tits like ya" which who knew it would be such a prophecy? There was Chappelle's Show, something that was huge at the time, and certainly influenced later sketch comedy stuff but It feels forgotten now, probably because it isn't available streaming as far as I can tell. Not going to post the most obvious sketch but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miZxYjqqjZM Sadly, this gave a bunch of racist white guy excuses to say racist jokes, because hey they were just quoting Chappelle's Show!

Randaconda posted:There's full episodes on the Comedy Central site Only if you're an American. Basically everything is on clips on that Comedy UK channel though. There really was a Renaissance of comedy at this time. You had the rise and mainstreaming of a huge number of Black Comedians who were aimed at a black audience, then you hard nerdier, smarter comedians like aformentioned David Cross, Dave Attell, Tom Lennon and Patton Oswalt. Yea they'd been around for a white before that but like you had to be a real comedy nerd to know about them as most had just been writers or on obscure sketch shows on HBO. It's weird to think that Blaine Capatch was host of beat the geeks and he looked like Harry Potter.

I feel like it was around this time that sitcoms really died off. That 70's show is the only one I remember from the early 2000s that was remotely good.

Sitcoms died off because they require a measure of normalcy to execute. Also Reality TV was having its day and gently caress if we're paying some nerd to "write storylines"

Sitcoms have continued to be around, and actually thrive, they just rely on actual jokes to be funny as opposed to a laugh track to tell the audience what's funny.
