If you are able to look past the anime it's still interesting to read the source code because it's a really minimal implementation of a gui with just enough code to handle the stuff you see in the video I'm surprised how little you have to do to configure a SVGA framebuffer, it's hardly any code at all https://github.com/obecebo/erythros/blob/master/System/Drivers/VMSVGA.HC

I don't think it's a "real" svga frame buffer though, since it mentions vmsvga which is the VMware display thing (also implemented by virtual box) so i think it's basically an implementation of a VMware video driver that writes in pseudo registers exposed by vmware, which is probably more straightforward to work with than actual hardware another crazy thing is that they wrote a tcp/ip stack for templeos, that's some dedication right there

Mezzano is another good System to read if you want to see a reasonably designed single user OS written in Common Lisp it even does IPv6, has a libdispatch-derived concurrency API (at my suggestion), and now has a USB stack
