This is a thread for Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo.

Director: Masahiro Andou (who also directed Hanasaku Iroha, but is enough of a veteran in the industry to have done key frames on NGE and Bebop)
Writer: Mari Okada

On the VA side there's a bit of a reunion between Kurosawa Tomoyo and Anzai Chika (Kumiko and Reina from Hibike Euphonium, respectively).

It is a coming-of-age sex comedy streaming on HIDIVE every Friday. It's been pretty good so far!

I was curious if I would keep watching after the first episode, but stuff has been eventful enough that I have, in spite of not having a lot of affection for the genre and this type of material in general. That's about the highest kinda praise I can give something that I'd describe as a dramatic comedy.

I like the one with the poofy hair. I like it when people are able to have internal turmoil without running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Might be worth mentioning the show's crew in the OP. I mean, I noticed this because Mari Okada, so that might be something other people care about.

Edit: Also bus porn made me laugh far more than I expected.

Quote isn't edit!

So I made some changes to the OP, and if anyone has anything else worth noting let me know.

In the meantime, a screencap from a heartwarming scene:

Other than Okada herself i'm not sure if there's much (if any) overlap.

But! That teamup of Nagai, Okada, and Tanaka a.k.a The Super Peace Busters (anohana, anthem of the heart) have a movie coming out this fall called Her Blue Sky

More relevant to this thread.

Been wanting to check it out ever since i heard the manga's opening chapter sorta vaguely described a while back, but never quite got around to reading it myself.

So far i really like it.

Not really, closer to the Hanasaku Iroha team (the director here directed it, and Okada did some script work on it).

Oh poo poo! Yeah, I got those two mixed up.

AnoHana team is Nagai/Okada, who also cooperated for Toradora and Gundam: IBO.

Still game, either way.

I'm pretty glad this thread was made, it made me give this show a look, and I absolutely don't regret it at all.

My initial take on the synopses for the show made it sound like something more akin to Seitokai Yakuindomo than anything else, which is a pass for me.

This continues to be the most interesting of the shows I'm watching this season. I'm a little wary of the Hongou plotline, though. Wonder where that will end up.

What are you doing Hongou.

Why have you not called the police Sugawara.

Nice scene with Sonezaki on the roof. Good for them!

Hongo and Sugawara's storylines make me want to shrivel up into a prune and die but Izumi saved Sugawara's flashback for me. I wish this teacher wasn't playing along with Hongo, it's still gross even if he's not into it.

Sonezaki's story is getting pretty adorable and I love Kazusa and Izumi too they're cute as hell.

Momo is definitely discovering that she's not into dudes.

Momo being gay for Kazusa is the truth until it's proven otherwise.

It's gonna be bittersweet, because Kazusa definitely wants to ride the train.

Three other things I wanted to mention: "a guy should treat a girl, so you only need to kick in $10 toward your $12 meal" was great, as was Kazusa getting flustered from Izumi's sexy bowling. The shittiness of some of the key frames this week was disappointing though.

You should hear how she talks about Sugawara, then, and how she looks at her in the opening credits!

I counter with her burying her face in Kazusa's back. It even felt like she was preparing herself to lose to Izumi in that scene.

Yeah, I get that.

From a narrative prospective, though, it makes total sense. He's tried going "Nope, nope, nope!" and Hongo's still been in. If anything, she escalated. He can't go to anyone, because starting a conversation with "So, it turned out I was sexting a student..." is a good way to get arrested. Basically, his approach options are severely limited.

And the whole situation is even more messed up because, well, he can't claim 0% interest. As soon as he found out she was a teenager, he was running for the hills, but when he just knew her as words on a screen, he was attracted enough to agree to meet in real life. He tried to downplay it with the whole "I thought you were a middle aged man and I was curious what kind of weirdo was doing it", but he was in before he knew the whole deal, making his denials more difficult to sell.

Add on that she's desperate for proof she can write thanks to the scumbag editor, and it means she's not giving up easily.

Mari Okada is good at complicated incredibly messed up situations.

I'm getting the feeling that Sugawara and Izumi are gonna become an item, and Kazusa's character arc is going to be dealing with that. Maybe even coming to the realization that the kind of love that she's feeling for Izumi isn't necessarily a romantic love.

I hope that Sonezaki's story is just a normal adorable romance story to contrast against the more complicated situations the other club members are in. She was totally expecting it to play out like a shojo manga in her head with Amagi reading it later, but then he messed it all up by reading it right away and turning it into even more of a shojo manga. His lovely writing and her corrections were great.

I'm really glad someone made this post. O Maidens is one of the more underrated shows this season and to me, it's worth a watch.

Someone mentioned somewhere that it was close to "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret" as anime's gotten. While that's not exactly correct, it comes close indeed.

I dig Sonezaki's equivalent of Cortes burning his ships. Masking your budding romance in order to not stand out by amplifying everyone else's, and ensuring that your cohorts help you make it happen by cutting off their easy routes to victory? That's some Sun-Tzu level poo poo right there.

1. Poor Momo. Izumi's stealing all of her love interests. I can't deny those looks at Niina in this episode.

2. Hongo is so loving cute. I kinda love and hate Milo for rebuffing her like that.

3. Smug Rika is hilarious.

4. gently caress off, pedo. Credit to the production for including that scene and still managing to hold my interest. I read that chapter this week and was prepared for it to ruin the show for me.

Believe in Mari Okada.

... I mean, occasionally. Whenever she's not butting heads with producers about how a show would end.
