So its heavily implied Becca was not raped? That she went from a happy (we haven't been shown otherwise) marriage to loving the company mascot and was only upset because she got pregnant (or was that part of some plan?), which people say is impossible..Somebody said earlier that Translucent had a son though. Re: Black Noir being the clone of Homelander as a fail safe in case Homelander goes crazy seems like the stupidest idea, instead of one all powerful potential world destroyer you have two, who could both be crazy. Was there any justification for this? The gut punch to Butcher by Homelander at the end was supreme. I can see HL telling BB to raise his kid for him just to rub much salt into that particular wound.

Uh, no? I mean maybe but I don't see "heavily implied". Just because you raise the baby doesn't mean it wasn't rape. She didn't look happy to see homelander and the boy didn't know his father, although for other reasons too.

The only people who have said it was a rape, is Mallory, who basically tells Butcher that is what has happened, shows him some video, and wants to recruit him to her team. And Butcher himself, who believes what Mallory tells him, because his wife was acting strange, not telling him what was wrong, then disappeared. That is it. I say implied because, from what we have been shown, Becca didn't tell Billy it was anything. For all we know she could have been artificially impregnated by Vought for the purposes of raising an anti-Homelander and she got cold feet or something. The video Mallory had could have been fake and Homelander boasting to Butcher at the end could just be to gently caress with Billy's head, which he did with aplomb right at the end there. Becca was looking at Billy the entire scene, not Homelander, or her son.

Re: the ending, I wouldn't read too much into whether or not Becca's rape occurred. At this point, it could literally be anything.

Yeah, Sillwell could have given Homelander a handbreezy to get his juice. Billy and Becca could have been doing IVF and Vough offered to help her etc. The only thing we do know is that it hasn't gone down like it did in the comic but there still needed to be motivation for the Butcherman so...

Homelander actually asks the question in the show, but the only puzzling thing is why The Seven are puppet stooges for a megacorp instead of running things themselves, although the show does seem to be moving in that direction.

One of the issues seems to be that aside from Homelander, (and maybe Starlight although I don't have a good feel for her powers yet), the powers of the rest of the Seven aren't that strong or conducive to seizing control over the world as gods.

The setup in The Boys reminds me very much of the Roger Zelazny book Lord of Light in which a group of scientist/space colonists, who have become effectively immortal through the development of technology to transfer their souls to new bodies, but also have developed special powers, initially through technological means but which become part of their being that inhabits the new bodies. This group decides at some point to adopt the identities of the Hindu pantheon of gods and rule over the planet they're on as gods. Since enough time has passed through many reincarnations that the original human identities of the gods are no longer known to the public (although they are known by the gods among each other), they are simply known by their god identities. One of the original group of gods who doesn't like the way they rule over the lesser mortals sets up a rebellion against the rest and that's the main plot of the book.

The position of the Seven, especially if they were to ultimately seize power themselves which it looks like Homelander is moving towards, is like that.

They would need an administration apparatus though, no one or seven humans could do everything. Homelander seemed genuinely afraid of defying Mister Edgar. Didn't they mention something about level (floor) 83? Perhaps they are betentacled monsters from beyond spacetime :cthulhu: wearing human suits who are doing an experiment. Who knows. It would be a bit off theme to go that way though.

e: Or more likely they absolutely have a method of killing him, but he such a fantastic money maker they would do a cost/benefit analysis on whether to use it on him. So he would have to do more than just killing executives and being a general dick to trigger the fail safe. Stillwell knew she was worth less to the company than Homelander and knew what a physco man child he was and it terrified her.

Yeah, sounds like the basis of a Stab in the Back type of uprising. I don't think there are that many of them though.

Why would the US DoD, of all people, not procure a sample of V and manufacture their own line of GI Supes. They wouldn't, but the indiscriminate use of Supers in any military would be insanely demoralising for the line infantrymen, and set up some crazy inter service rivalries.

Speaking of which, Homelander's suit was very badly fitting, especially around the arms. Also speaking of arms, do veins normally stay popped like on The Deep? Mine usually go down not long after a workout, perhaps the producers forced Chase to do a full arm set before every scene. The monsters :allears:

But just gimme like a scene in a strip club or something. I don’t wanna see Maeve or Starlight or Kimiko naked, I just want a little more senseless nudity.

As it stands, shout out to the show just have like a shredded dude hang song in the first episode or two to try to flip “gratuitous nudity” on its head.

Personally I just don't see the story telling utility in 90% of nudity or sex scenes in tv shows these days, it's almost like producers think it is a requirement for a show to be "adult." Seriously, porn is plentiful and easy to access, it's not the 80's and 90's anymore.

I am going to keep an open mind about their motivations, perhaps with the increased budget there is a need for increased viewing numbers and 10+5 weeks of marketing + hype is their method. Which other shows have Amazon staggered the episode releases?

This 50/50 approach maybe a happy medium, satisfy a pent up demand with a multi episode drop then tease out the remainder. I am keeping an open mind.

When the netflix marvel shows were coming out, I'd talk to people the same WEEK that we both saw it and they couldn't remember poo poo. Didn't know the names of any side characters, forgot everything but the biggest plot twists and fights, just totally lost. And they'd be the ones who'd drop in conversation how fast they finished the show like it's a bragging right. Autoplaying the show for 7 hours while browsing stuff on your phone and doing housework isn't exactly "watching" it.

The discussion threads of shows that drop all at once are a little whack too cause it's all just people saying how they liked/hated a char overall, how they felt about the biggest twist, and what their favorite moment was, and that's about it. The first [spoiler ]'d text post will be some poo poo from the 2nd to last episode.

100% agree with this. While I want every drat episode right now, I can also see the utility (or futility!) of replay watching what we have and discussing them to death, for the hype machine.

I am happy for there to be a new season, regardless of how they present it to us. Will it be a success? If the content is good then yes, it really does not matter (Firefly! Yes I know.) how they give it to us.

What is Becca basing her assertion that Billy is a violent man on? The only history we have been given of him is as a pretty normal dude who goes off the rails (or rather is taken off the rails, turned into a bullet and fired at Homelander) after she is attacked and disappears. Otherwise they are normal happy people, just childless. Mallory and Butcher both agree that she turned him into what he is, something she regrets. Did Vought keep her updated on his fall? This history seems taken wholesale from the comics and grafted onto season 2, and ignores practically all the history we are given from season 1.

I could understand her rejecting him for his now supehating rageman persona to protect her son, but that he has always been like this? wtf

Also I am perhaps detecting that Stormfront may have some problematic beliefs but I think we should wait for more evidence that she is a bad person....

Like, maybe it's just me reading too much into it but you don't get as easy with manipulation as Butcher is, or as comfortable with the super violence unless you've been at it long enough to get used to that poo poo. See also: Hughie and basically every other character except Kimiko still being viscerally freaked the gently caress out whenever something horrible happens, even MM and Frenchie who've been through similar things with Butcher before. But Butcher is real, real cool about hearing that a woman's head exploded until he needs to feign sympathy to get someone on his side. And he's good at pretending to be a better person than he is just long enough to get them to second guess their own thought and give him another chance.

No, it's that there was zero build up to it. We are shown that he has become like this after she disappeared. Told even. A flashback to him battering someone who gave her lip would have been enough. Everything we are shown up until that point says something different.

It's just dropped fait acompli when he threatens her son, which should be enough by itself for her to recoil in horror and tell him to gently caress off with that poo poo.
