If everyone wears a mask properly, it's great. However, everyone does not wear a mask properly. They refuse to wear them, or wear them with their nose uncovered which is about the same as not wearing one at all, or they wear one but then sit down in a restaurant for an hour or two not wearing one. The point is going about your normal routine and thinking you're fine because you're wearing a mask is wrong. You cannot count on people to do the right thing. The only safe course of action is to avoid other people whenever possible, and that especially includes friends and family who aren't practicing proper pandemic procedures, because human psychology makes us relax our vigilance around people we trust. Even the added measures of a face shield, gloves, and aggressive hygiene aren't enough when you're cohabiting with someone, as the exposure opportunities are just too high. Anyhow, coming down with COVID doesn't necessarily mean you refused to mask up, it means you were around people who refused to mask up, and/or made poor decisions about managing your exposure risk.

Also that this virus follows the pattern of previous seasonal viruses and no matter the precautions taken with masks, that the virus gonna virus until burnout is achieved. Specifically because they are finding asymptomatic patients are not spreading the virus like they originally thought. Also look at LA County in Cali. Dade County in Miami. Hawaii with some of the most strict lock downs and policies now spiking. So a few things 1. CDC changing it's policy is not "a few studies I've seen" 2. CDC only changed their policies regarding know contact tracing. It was not based on asymptomatic cases being less infectious but based on the onerous cost of tracking down and testing dozens of people when it was unlikely they had contracted it. That's Bayesian Logic, not a change in the science. 3. That change is INCREDIBLY controversial because scientists believe it's just an effort for Trump to push down tracked cases by testing less people who likely have it. Arizona has a low Rt now because they changed their loving mask policy and stepped back away from phase 3 open status. Their "no mask" policy rocketed them up, has literally killed hundreds (thousands?) And then they mandated masks and their cases fell. Holy poo poo, man.
