It's so petty.

How the gently caress can you be in the Guard for one state, where you'd have to have residency to serve, and be in congress for another state, where you'd also have to have residency?

That seems like it shouldn't be the way that works, but I suppose the same could be said about most of the ways things are done in the military.

One hell of a conflict of interest if they ever had to do their job and actually vote to declare war. But, I guess most of them would duck out of their obligations since I'm guessing that most of the people that situation applies to only signed up for political points like that scum gently caress Reince Priebus.

He promptly returned to Washington and was made chairman of a powerful committee.

Exactly why he's a good case study. That's what most reserve politicians would do.

That blended retirement thing seemed like a scam to get people off the old, actually good, retirement program. "Hey instead of this guaranteed check that we'll have to give you every month for the rest of your life when you hit your 20 years, how about you let us gamble your money on the stock market instead, but you can cash out at 15 years!"

I may be wrong, but that's what it seemed like it was to me. I didn't really pay much attention since I had no plans of ever retiring and I had about a year left before I got out when they started bringing it up.

Because there's a bunch of lunatics with enormous arsenals saying that if we do they'll kill everyone, and there's a very well funded propaganda machine keeping it going.

I know I'm not disarming myself if these crazed loving fascists aren't.

That's the point where the government would have to give them a practical demonstration of the phrase "live by the gun, die by the gun". The problem wouldn't be the people that just have a pistol or a rifle, it would be the people who have spent their entire lives stockpiling arsenals. Before we'd even get to that point, we need to start shaming the poo poo out of gun ownership.

Edit: it's going to take a major shift in the national conscience, or a civil war. I hope it's a peaceful process.

Stepping over the line from victim to oppressor doesn't make you not a victim anymore, but it doesn't remove culpability for your actions. With stuff like this you can't throw an equal blanket of shame on them all though, you really have to take it on a case by case basis. People who have been abused their whole lives that then do awful things themselves is a really tough thing to judge.
