Wow, big surprise that my wife is hearing from her uncle (who's a cop) that he has "intel" that this shooting was a left-wing militia (guessing this is supposed to be ANTIFA lol) attack because of the border/wall. lmfao I loving hate our species at times.

That would honestly be a better use of time and resources than a space force. I can't speak for quasi-civilian agencies, but the US military cyber folks are all ultimately under the top-level command of someone with no cyber experience.

In the USAF, we call our assignments "cyber sorties" where we maintain "time on target" while we conduct "cyber escort" for allied computer systems.

It's dumber than I can articulate. We use bastardized forms of flight terms for things that bear no relation to flight, because our senior leaders don't understand computers or networks. Thus, we pretend we're flying cyber airplanes, because the alternative would be to promote leaders who possess the ability to learn new concepts.

The best comparison I can think of is this: imagine if, in the early days of flight, military leadership insisted that we call dogfights "air infantry charges" because the infantrymen running the Army couldn't understand that aerial warfare worked differently than land-based warfare.

At least a cyber force would, theoretically, have people at the top with some kind of relevant experience, and wouldn't need to compete for funding with airframes.

Edit: and our USAF cyber ops have recently been reassigned to Air Combat Command, which is notable for being so lovely at anything outside the original TAC wheelhouse that we had to reactivate SAC.

So what's the cyber version of controlled flight into terrain? Also feeling pretty glad I didn't get picked up for Comm in basic; the medical side is weird/soft, but outright co-opting stuff from aviation like ToT or sorties isn't too common. Maybe with actual aircrew/support, but at that point it makes sense.

Huh, this is a pretty funny pixelatedboat joke. Well, let's check the feed some more, might not be a terrible night.

... gently caress it was a joke made in context :gonk:

quote:

A different senior administration official, who has been briefed on the president's hurricane bombing suggestion, defended Trump's idea and said it was no cause for alarm. "His goal — to keep a catastrophic hurricane from hitting the mainland — is not bad," the official said. "His objective is not bad."

"What people near the president do is they say 'I love a president who asks questions like that, who’s willing to ask tough questions.' ... It takes strong people to respond to him in the right way when stuff like this comes up. For me, alarm bells weren't going off when I heard about it, but I did think somebody is going to use this to feed into 'the president is crazy' narrative."

I don't know why my entire house smells like toast now, but I'm concerned.

Lmao. Soon you won't be able to look at Twitter while serving on active duty just like the WikiLeaks saga. Lololol. Because of the loving president.

Edit: gonna report this to my security manager for shits and giggles.

So the president is the ultimate classification authority, but does that mean what he posts is declassified? How about when his staff are the ones making the posts and there isn't actually documentation of the president's decision?

Yeah, same situation as the whole executive order by tweet fiasco.

i still really like san antonio

It's a cool place, but the drivers still haven't learned how to use on/off ramps. Also the road system is really straining with how fast SA is growing; I use to be able to leave for work @ 0630 and get there pretty early but now if I leave at the same time I'm gonna be cutting it close (and don't even get me started with loving BMT trainee families).
