I started playing 14 a couple months ago and just finished up the 2.X main quest a few days ago. So I’ve been working my way through the thread and it’s super interesting getting to see the events I recently completed and someone else’s take on it, almost like a pseudo-retrospective. Much appreciated, keep up the good work

Bonus Guide VI: Way of the Armorer

One thing I like about the Armorer quest line is that the villain likes you. It creates a scenario where his actions are more about convincing you than antagonize you.

Quick update on my end. Sorry about being two weeks late, next update is what I'm intending to be the last one, other than maybe a random thing here and there showing off some changes. Unfortunately home stuff and general sad brains stuff hasn't left me with much time to work on any updates. I have a four-day weekend this week, so I'm hoping to be able to knock out the last update then.

Prelude to Calamity VII - Living on a Prayer

And that's it for Prelude to Calamity, sorry the last part took a while. Little light on screenshots, but all the cutscenes were just talking so there wasn't much interesting to capture. I might post the occasional thing here and there, if I can find any comparisons worth making, but this is pretty much it for now.

Thanks, Veotax! It’s easy to see how the IRL situation is reflected in the story. Believing the game would survive the transition was a desperate act of hope. If only they could see then what we do now.

Yes, thanks! It was interesting for them to basically acknowledge, "yeah, we're just going to summon our own Primals." They don't even try to draw a distinction with "beast tribe" gods.

Also if you guys are interested, I made something between the previous update and this one: LP Checklist By Patch - This shows everything I plan on recording in super condensed form. There are mild spoilers for upcoming trials, but this shows roughly how much more content is left to cover in the LP. We're gonna be here for at least another six months.

My theory on the Gold Saucer is that despite appearances, it's not actually a 'casino' and really a restaurant/hotel: You pay for the airship ticket or Aetheryte network fees (which the Saucer cut a deal to get for themselves). That's effectively an entrance fee. The MGP exchange is just a way to get a few bucks off newbies directly in the same way that an arcade charges a few bucks for their 'Play Card" or whatever the local parlance is. But that's all minor - the REAL money is actually in alcohol, food, and hotel rooms. This explains why the games are almost all fairly easy because they actively want people to win regularly, feel great about it, see big numbers, and then keep coming back. And of course, everything in the Saucer only rewards their own special currency which cannot be directly refunded but instead exchanged for merch. Basically, think Dave&Buster's, Main Event, Chuck-E-Cheese, or similar places of that ilk. The WOL just misses out on a lot of the normal costs since we never eat/drink, don't need hotel rooms, and can get discounted airship/Aetheryte fees because of our political connections.

Mahjong can be intimidating, I agree, but knowing what I do now... like, I could probably write up a How to Mahjong and there's a bunch of videos and the like about it. I just. Can't do that in FFXIV at the moment since I'm unsubbed and my computer is Old and Full.

I've never once managed to get a perfect score on the Air Force game. I think it's a matter of my controls. Maybe things will change once I get a mouse.

Air Force One is so great, I love rail shooters. Also I had no idea I could trade in extra cards for MGP! I've trashed so many My theory on the Saucer was slightly less nefarious than the "Godbert lets you win," theory. I think the place is basically a Theme Park rather than a Casino and makes its dosh on overpriced food, drinks, merch and sponsorships, with the Casino schtick just being the rides that get you in and get you to shell out that initial "ticket price."

MagusofStars posted:The biggest trick I figured out after failing a couple times is that the balloons take several seconds before they "disappear". It helps tremendously if you slow down a little, taking an extra second to watch the balloon's movement pattern, then wait on a clear shot. My biggest problem with it is probably that, with a controller's analog sticks, the cursor isn't moving precisely enough, or it's too fast, or it's too slow. By contrast, I almost never fail to get all the trophies on Leap of Faith.

I had actually written that before they really announced the upcoming changes. Once they did, it became a perfect chance to show how the jobs play shortly after their own rework. Also I really like the theories that the Saucer is meant to be an arcade resort or a theme park. The comparison to Dave & Busters is pretty apt.

You have two charges on Infuriate from the start. You get a trait at level 66 that takes 5 seconds off the current cooldown timer of Infuriate every time you use a Beast spender. Combined with the upgrade to Beserk at 70, this means Infuriate charges come faster than the 60s cooldown would make you think. EDIT For Conent(TM): Yeah, WAR's job quests have a tendancy to hit the same notes in the 50-60 and 60-70 questlines as the 30-50. Certainly some comedy to be had, so it could have been worse. WAR is a fun job at max level if you like to press Fell Cleave and see big numbers pop out. Roluth fucked around with this message at 03:35 on Nov 24, 2021 |

I have a deep and abiding dislike for Curious Gorge. I will never completely forgive him for his reason for not giving you the chestpiece at level 45. Every other job has some reason of various contrivance; his is "I just don't wanna give it to you."

Welcome back! Ah, the Gold Saucer... a good place to lose several hours. I don't understand going through a website for mini cacpots myself. I tend to use just one strat: Two on the corner dots of the same side of the square, on in the middle of the opposite side, middle spot. That gives me enough hints to see if I can go for 1-2-3, 7-8-9, or if I should just chuck the ticket in the garbage because literally who cares about the other results :V edit: woop, update while I was writing DreadUnknown posted:They way the AF set got split up like that never made any sense to me. So this is an artifact of pre-patch content. It used to be that the level 50 quest didn't ALSO give you a full armor set along with the level 50 chest piece. Nowadays it feels pretty silly, especially since it means from 45-50 you look like a dork. Kerzoro fucked around with this message at 15:58 on Nov 26, 2021 |

Flying wouldn't have helped the mission on the drake. When they updated ARR to allow flying in zones, the mounts for ARR beast tribe quests weren't given the ability to fly when you borrow them for a quest. I'm sure they'll fix that eventually.

Huh, I wonder how Extra Action buttons work on console. I assume they just jamb it on the first free space on your hotkey bar before shuffling you into the fight, which could prove pretty awkward trying to find it and get used to hitting it quickly in the heat of battle.
