Oh man that Shadows of the Empire video is fantastic and something I think a lot about when playing games. It's kind of wild how many games have to make structures that don't make sense and why, and how cool it is when a game gets it right.

And yeah, Shadows of the Empire is really great, it's pretty strange how it tried stuff like that in like early 1997 and on a console too. The amount of really great, but weird stuff like those challenge points that are way out in the distance, like they said, just feels like something you'd try if you were messing around trying to test the boundaries of the game. And it's level design is actually visually pretty on point, like, for how grey and brown everything is, the levels are so sparse, then they have these oddly shaped ledges on one side of a canyon that you traveled super far to get to. I kind of want to play it again, I know it like the back of my hand, but not the sewer level because I was terrified of underwater levels as a kid and had one of my friends who lived down the street beat it. i don't have any good videos to add to the thread, sadly, but i'm thoroughly enjoying the backlog you are all providing. the aesthetics of far cry 2 even has a comments section that doesn't make me want to claw out my eyeballs, which is a first in internet history afaik. In fact, some of the comments are themselves pretty insightful critiques

So yeah I watched the whole thing. Not all at once mind you, but back then I had terrible insomnia while at the same time too tired to game, so I started watching a lot of youtube. I happen to also have a fascination for the newer Star Wars movies and Mauler did a few critiques on TFA amd TLJ as well, where he put into words what I felt but couldn't quite articulate myself.

well i suppose i'm just not up-to-date on his later, less anger-focused material. if he has a Good Video about Videogames then post it i guess. my main concern with this thread is to bring attention to the little guys who do a good job but dont make a living off of youtube vids, or are trying but struggling. this is partially why i like spicy chicken god alot: he works a job, he has to still live with his parents because he cant afford his own place right now, i think he's only 23 years old, yet he puts what little free time he has into these passion project videos for others to enjoy. the love for doing it shines through

A gaming Youtube channel I can recommend is ThorHighHeels. He covers a lot of older, obscure titles. Specifically a lot of ps1 and ps2. His main series is "So I've been playing", short videos combining a bit of history about the game and his personal feelings. Helped me discover some games I never even knew existed. Angry Joe gets a lot of hate but his heart is generally in the right place. That said, I agree that there's not much point in posting their stuff ITT because while I don't think either of them are Bad their stuff tends to be on a totally different wavelength to the kind of chill, cerebral game critique that's this thread's bread and butter. Also, content: Nobody's posted NitroRad yet? He specializes in 3D platformers and survival horror and while I haven't watched anything in the latter category the former contains just about every obscure also-ran mascot platformer ever as well as the big boys, and every time he tries to take them at face value and appreciate what they brought to the table even if the execution wasn't perfect.
