Money socked away in a pension plan is money that isn't being managed by somebody who gets a 2-3% or more admin fee. That and the general fiscal conservative assault on pensions tends to make the people who do like them extremely defensive about them, missing the very important and real criticism of the industry.

http://www.cppib.com/en/public-media/headlines/2019/cpp-fund-totals-3920-billion-2019-fiscal-year-end/

As of the end of fiscal 2019, the CPPIB has 392b under administration and 3.2b in expenses. In 2006 their expenses were just 118m on 98b

(AUM up 36b in last year, 152b in the last five years.)

Those investment costs have swelled like crazy during the world's longest bull market and happen to represent around 2% of the increase in assets.

This part isn't a big mystery - it went towards his Conservative leadership campaign debt and candidates taking a few years after the race to finish paying that down is somewhat normal in the current fundraising rule era.

What? The majority of Canadians that are investing are doing it with mutual funds through a big 4 bank. They charge 2-3% MER.

Well, color me confused over what feels like a zigzag back and forth between asset admin fees/trailer fees and overall MERs.

General gist is that regardless of what the fund company is charging, it's not worth more than 1%/year or so to the advisor except if they steer you into the few surviving funds that have a big front-end load in which case they get some commission up front but, at most, the same old trailers later.

And If we're talking about being induced to change where your money is, it's for the advisor commission/admin fee, not the MER. They don't care who else makes money off you (although anyone half decent would try to minimize overall costs... The fact that consequently nobody half decent has interest in you without at least half a million in financial assets or the obvious income potential to get there - new doctor - is slightly inconvenient, but hey!)

I'm guessing you never sold mutual funds or life insurance or etc etc. The advisor cares a fuckload if you end up buying an expensively managed fund. Can you guess why?

THE MOST EXPENSIVE FUNDS ALL GIVE OUT THE HIGHEST BONUSES TO THE ADVISORS THAT SELL THEM

This was back when he was foreign minister. He went on a trip to Afghanistan and brought 2185 Jos Louis with him.

He gave the forces his request just 24 hours in advance (article in French) and bypassed the chain to command to have a CWO make the rounds and clean out area grocery stores late at night.

Not even! The chain said "nope that's too late but if someone who really wants it feels like asking Vachon themselves, fill your boots", some Chief heard that Bernier had put them in a bind, so he took it upon himself to drive around every grocery store in Quinte buying up Jos Louis.

From the sounds of things he submitted an MTEC to compensate him for gas and mileage, too. And why not? Fastballs are expensive, Sir.

quote:
