We've got some ideas on how we want to move forward on clothing, something a little more than just "pick torso, pick head, pick legs", but those are generally going to be the slots themselves.

It's about time.
Are you thinking about having cosmetic slots as well?

Totally missed this, sorry. But here's the real answer: Create a faction is the most expensive and lore impacting option. It'll be limited in how many backers can opt in and also: it'll be expensive. And still can be vetoed if the idea doesn't jive.. something like gravestones cannot be inherently expensive and don't make sense to limit either.

Separately, here is an example of equipment but mostly clothing:

There will be three slots: Head, Torso and Legs.
It is (hopefully) true that a few major headaches would need less fact checking than hundreds of cheap ones. Here's to hoping most people throwing money at the faction tier won't need a heavy editing pass in the first place.

I also love the unintended implication that ski masks are more protective than elbow pads by virtue of "Before, after" order of dress up in video game logic.

Possible backer reward tier: named cosmetic option. Are you going to have descriptions for each piece of clothing? If so, that can open itself up to a lot of options for that sort of thing, and I personally wouldn't feel that it'd get in the way of the game.

On the contrary, I feel like opening up something as minute as clothing or items to being named externally is a pain. It's not a big ticket enough of an item to be worth anyone paying attention to it but you would have to, otherwise it'll be named something wildly out of place.

Are there any options for rewards that aren't in-game that wouldn't be too much of a hassle? Like signed sketches or idk seems like everybody makes enamel pins so maybe those are cheap?

Our current ideas are these:

"buy the devs coffee and get a thank you credit"
"Early Beta Access"
"Early Alpha Access"
"Name an NPC that will be randomly genned."
"Design an atmospheric shuttle."
"Design a spaceship"
"Create-a-faction"

For clarity, shuttles that can travel to the surface of a planet will be separate entities from a larger 'home base' type ship you keep in orbit.

Fair enough.

You don't have to police any custom names if you preemptively name everything after Hitler/Nazism!

:thunk:

Actual post: How are you going to handle colouring of clothes and equipment? Can you (re-)dye things after crafting them, do you have to craft the colour you want, or are colours randomised?

One thing I never understood about Patreon tiers are the later tiers seem to be great rewards for being a monthly contribution. What's to stop someone from just going on for one-month to get their thing in the game or beta access and dropping when the expectation is that it's many months at this level? Are lines drawn on minimum of months?

This isn't a you guys thing. This is an every Patreon thing.

Because we are getting extra money for someone to help create something we would put into the game anyway?

Eating my words over here:

"Acccording to ferr (lead programmer), if I understand correctly it'll use a system similar to the ones blocks use currently. So, support for multiple ramps, recoloring, transparency, and emissive(fullbright) after the necessary changes are made. I think. "

It's going to pay off eventually--I'm sure of it.

Any day now.

Just clicked on the Starbound thread and was happily linked onward to this. Excited to see something that might live up to its promises! Lots of cool-sounding stuff piquing my desire to build a happy little 2-D city.

Any indicator of what OS this will work on, or how it'll be distributed? Also, one of the few things I thought was pretty well done in Starbound was wiring things together. Is there going to be that sort of stuff, with switches and logic gates and that sort of thing?

PS: I saw https://www.playoutworlder.com/pre-order and you might want to update that with the stuff from the blog post you linked. It's still saying pre-order by the end of 2019.

Edit: vvv nice! I miss out on a lot of games due to the OSX laptop, but not this one sounds like.

We partnered up with a hosting company and are in the process of migrating over. Which is why it's not being updated.

It'll be on PC, Mac and Linux.
