4th quarter was very bad. Prior to that there were quite a few balls right on receivers hands that got dropped or tipped. He was pretty accurate. Penalties killed them and made him force throws in the fourth, also after hurting his throwing hand.

Say you always line up behind center, 3rd from right. Now there's a tight end on the line. While you're calling out pre-play adjustments and coverages, you line up 3rd player from right. Oops.

quote:

According to Over The Cap, Cousins is being paid $29 million this year in salary and bonuses. That's an average of $1.8 million over 16 game checks. That means Cousins earned more than $150,000 for each of his 12 dropbacks (ten passes, one sack, one DPI) in this game. The Vikings, of course, will be perfectly happy writing those checks as long as they win by multiple touchdowns every week.

lol

quote:

Mariota's three touchdowns came on three consecutive throws over the third and fourth quarters, producing a total of 89 DYAR between them. His other 25 dropbacks were pretty bad. Obviously, if you take away any quarterback's best plays, his numbers are going to look worse, but it's kind of stunning how useless Mariota was outside his explosion. His average completion gained a league-high 12.4 yards after the catch.

Interesting. Browns really did not handle RAC well, Mariota was average for the most part which is kind of what I thought from watching the game

quote:

Minshew's debut was fantastic, better in relief than most starters this week, but we must point out that his gaudy completion percentage was padded by a lot of dumpoffs. He had eight failed completions in three quarters and change; Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Ryan led the league with 10 failed completions each this week. Minshew completed all five of his third-down throws, but only two resulted in first downs.

Just putting this here because Minshew was rated above guys like Mariota, Watson, Rivers, Wilson, Cousins, Brissett, etc.

Wes is always the worst one, though. He's regressive and reactionary and buys into all kinds of dumb cliches; usually supports management not players and he's kinda smarmy on top of it all.

Wentz looked very much like his 2017 self in the second half of that game, and it was awesome to watch. Being money on third down was a huge part of his success that year.

Still has to learn to give Jackson a bit more of a lead, though. Beautiful as those long TDs were, Jackson had to slow down to get 'em. It's kind of absurd he's still so fast.

He felt that AB has been such a bad teammate and so manipulative of the Steelers and Raiders that the NFL should ban him. He sounded near tears.

agreed on both counts. his naive (and frankly juvenile) overemphasis on the "team" ideal in what is a business largely constructed completely in favor of the owners came off as really silly. I can see getting that worked up if your kid's high school teammate is pulling AB level poo poo, but once money is involved the only team that matters is you and your agent. whatever happens off the field is completely incidental to the entertainment product NFL employees are paid to produce

again, agreed on all counts. I gave Wentz the benefit of the doubt this week cause he didn't play in the preseason and I assume he'll get his timing worked out with DJax, he's pretty good when it comes to deep balls
