Saw the People's Joker last night, absolutely recommend it if you can see it. The basic premise is that Vera Drew plays "herself" as a small boy who lives in Smallville and moves to Gotham to become a UCB Joker, a parody of SNL run by a CGI Lorne Michaels voiced by Maria Bamford. The only way you can be a comedian is by joining UCB after Batman outlawed all other comedy. They end up forming an anti-comedy troupe with The Penguin and fall in love with Mistah J, Jason Todd, and deciding to go from Clown to Harlequin and perform illegal comedy. It's a discussion of her experience as a trans woman and the places they look for acceptance like bad relationships and cult-like comedy groups. Experimental, low production during covid so there are scenes that are obviously filmed separately and put together. Sometimes it swaps to animation, a lot of things filmed in front of green screens, poison ivy and Lorne Michaels are both terrible cgi as a creative choice. It can be uneven but helps ad to the surrealist nature. Also David Liebe Hart plays Ra's Al Ghoul except he's the most famous comedian in the world and has an obvious Borat parody called "Ra's Al Ghouls foreign man" https://twitter.com/VeraDrew22/status/1765059708036264103
