I don't like the star wars, and think the prequels and sequels were particularly dumb (especially the latter). That said, I never understood the Yoda fight criticism because they spend all of the movies hyping him up as a really powerful dude. It also was just fun to watch in that it was different than a lot of other blockbuster fight scenes.

Off the top of my head, it was more interesting than the final fight in the first Black Panther, which had to have been one of the worst blockbuster fights ever.

IIRC he stole the idea from one of the books (not one I read) (but I had a Star Wars Guide To Weapons & Technology that covered poo poo from the books and it had it in there)

george lucas made the prequels for children, its why all the characters have funny names and jar jar binks steps in the poo poo.

count dooku, is like count dookie or count doodoo if your a kid and thats funny, yoda flying around fighting him is fun.

lucas purportedly loathed the books/comics and took deliberate efforts to ensure they would never be considered canonical. most likely because he is a massive hack and couldn't stand the idea anyone could write a better star wars story than him

i don't think count dooku's name is supposed to sound like dookie i think george is just bad at coming up with names and was too powerful to take notes on his scripts at that point.

Lucas hates tension and hates anyone who forces it into his movies. Any tension must immediately be defused with an unfunny joke.

Lucas was a great synthesizer. his creativity was in distilling decades of media into incredible singular works.

when people post the video of how Indiana Jones is shot for shot copied from a bunch of different old movies usually miss the point that it is showcasing Lucas's kind of creativity.

Not @ me, but I'm increasingly in the "gently caress IP" camp. I don't know if there's anything new to be said about what anyone's doing for the most part.

So: I saw Evil Does Not Exist the other week. Essentially a drama about a small town that's about to get hosed over by a talent agency that's cravenly chasing covid-19 subsidies, contrasted against the beauty of nature. Not socialist, but it's good about emphasizing the importance of community and the bonds people have within it. Very very slow though.

The opening credits are some edgy poo poo, still kind of classy but it's absolutely the kind of thing the kids in highschool would do on a multimedia project and claim was super deep and inspired.

I also caught Last Stop In Yuma County (a decent Tarrantino knock off) and Cannibal Mukbang (funny, and pretty drat good at capturing Gen Z sexual anxiety) but I dunno if either of them really fit what this thread often talks about. I'd recommend both of those over Evil Does Not Exist, but they're not available in wide release anywhere.
