just watched hellraiser 2 and liked it a lot are any of the other eight (lol) movies in the hellraiser franchise worth watching ive heard theyre all really bad

I have extremely strong opinions on the Hellraisers due to a binge at the start of quarantine

3: There's some fun cenobite stuff going on, especially in the third act, but the moving parts of the film are all boring - the greatest crime of any movie
4: Cool historical vignette early on in the movie and some laughable Hellraiser In Space but 2/3rds of the movie is really low budget and constrained and dull
5: A procedural serial killer film with some supernatural elements, better than expected but the effects are bleh and there's barely any actual cenobit econtent
6: This one's hard to get through, no redeeming qualities, lovely protagonist, lovely story, no good meathooking, just nothing
7: Interesting take on a Flatliners kind of story in the Hellraiser universe, the ending is anticlimatic and cheesy but there's a few scenes that really stuck with me
8: Holy poo poo bad, remarkably bad, talk about it years later bad, bottom shelf direct to video bad, kind of made me angry while watching it
9: They dug a hole beneath the bottom shelf, you would not believe this hole - ironically, 9 is the closest in story to the first 2 Hellraisers, but the acting and dialogue physically hurt in a unique way
10: Third favorite Hellraiser film - opens with a cool vignette about cenobite bureaucracy which then transitions into a 70ish minute supernatural Se7en knockoff

In conclusion, Hellraiser is a land of contrasts, thank you

I still say when it comes to movie fans, people who enjoy 80s schlock horror are the most tolerable bunch. Doesn't matter if it's critically panned! It's fun and it's got funny dialoague!

My movie diet is almost exclusively drive-in / straight-to-video exploitation and I've been in hog heaven since there's been such an active effort to remaster and preserve them these last few years - it sure beats the old standard of low fidelity VHS rips with warped audio and tracking problems

Last night I watched 1965's Mudhoney by Russ Meyer, the shocking motion picture that dares to ask the question "what if there were a bunch of horny inbred appalachians with substance problems?"

Ghoulies 2 is the closest to being a functional movie, for sure. Ghoulies 1 is dull and meandering and completely useless, Ghoulies 3 is lovely horror-comedy but at least conceptually weird enough to be interesting, Ghoulies 4 is as close to nothing as a movie can be and I hate it.

Oh man I just watched this flick Meet the Hollowheads and it's exactly the kind of crazy poo poo you cannot convince anyone to let you make, it's loving crazy in the best way

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhwErX-V--A

Tonally it's a bleak dystopian parody of 50s sitcom americana with a rote "boss comes over for dinner, hijinks ensue" plot, with every cliche played straight but to the tenth power. Aesthetically it's full on, visceral, no-punches-pulled Cronenberg body horror spilt all over a proto-nickelodeon fever dream full of tubes and slime. It's listed several places as a "dark comedy" but it's really more accurately a light cartoonish family movie filled with grotesque violence and needless gross-out poo poo and several sexual assaults and it makes me want to loving puke. A+++ would buy on UHD

even between all the late screed stuff its kind of hard to miss that the feminazi empire falls more because of a resistance movement with an entirely inaccurate romantic interpretation of the cerebus image than cerebus himself and the flash forward shows the feminazis mostly won the culture war anyway because cerebus is a petty assholish boor with no meaningful social influence

this description makes me think that everyone who gets the gun inevitably gets shanked once they fall asleep but that sounds like it would be really funny so im guessing thats not what actually happens

It's a pretty basic tale, really. A good guy hates that there's a bad guy in the dirt-future, so he makes a gun. The gun makes the good guy win all the fights, so now the bad guy wants the gun. He gets it and starts doing even more bad guy stuff, so the good guy gets the gun back and wins more. He keeps winning until he's done, and then he takes the gun apart because nobody should have the gun. Interspliced with this gripping narrative there's six hundred stunt men that get exploded and enough gasoline fires to make the most frivolous coal roller raise an eyebrow.
