There really isn't much else--"Hoxhaists" don't believe Hoxha was particularly innovative, just the most faithful enactor of Marx and Lenin after Stalin died and his successor Khrushchev supposedly sold out.

It basically means you like Stalin but you're not a Maoist.

To the extent that it's a coherent ideology at all, it's nationalism with Chinese characteristics. But sometimes it inspires people to form slavery cults. That cult in particular was a remnant of maoist groups from the 70s, when maoism was popular in leftist circles in the West for a while following the Cultural Revolution and the Vietnam war. Anyone in the West claiming to be a maoist on the internet today is almost certainly a meme ideologist who's had to reinvent what that even means. In China it has evolved into turbo-nationalism very similar to the far right in the West, especially considering the emphasis they both put on culture, and internet trolling. That might seem ironic but recall that maoism was always a populist nationalist movement first and foremost. That it has been considered an extreme left ideology says more about the people calling it such (like the CCP which insists it's banning unions and strikes for entirely leftist reasons, or capitalist apologist saying "yep this is definitely the end game of the left"), and perhaps that whole scale.

I‘d say that besides the theoretical underpinnings of Hoxhaism which are like ctrl-c, ctrl-v of Stalinism with some elements of Maoism thrown into the mix, (not the three worlds theory though, which Hoxha denounced), it’s important to look at the praxis here. Albania under Hoxha was super nationalist and also insanely paranoid against pretty much everybody else and especially against Yugoslavia. This led to a radical isolationism, which in turn gave us, well, bunkers.

On that topic, my favorite historical maoist cult is the United Red Army in Japan:

quote:

The United Red Army had 29 members and lost 14 by killing them in less than a year. Most were members of the New Left.

Early in August, two defectors were lynched and their bodies buried in Inba numa marsh, Chiba Prefecture. In the winter of 1971–1972 the United Red Army was hiding in the mountains in Gunma Prefecture. They established camps and trained for military purposes. The leaders of the United Red Army encouraged their fighters to examine their weaknesses in criticism and self-criticism, and these sessions turned into lynchings. The group purged itself one by one of members deemed not sufficiently revolutionary. Many of the twelve victims died tied to posts in the open, exposed to the elements, but others were beaten to death or slaughtered with knives. The first died on 31 December and the last on 12 February. The United Red Army leaders later did not admit that they had killed, but called it death by defeatism (敗北死 Haiboku shi).

Being a constitutional monarchist is even dumber than a return to divine right. At least with the latter you can delude yourself that feudalism was somehow better than capitalism. We have examples of constitutional monarchy's everywhere* & their royals serve as essentially parasitic artifacts. They're not even better behaved than any given capitalists given what we know about the windsors behavior

when I was an undergrad I found a very small and weird strange of english neo-bonapartism. the historiography around the topic is still hilariously partisan across the channel, but there was this small group of amateur historians who took the french position and went into very weird places with it. as far as I could tell they were a few blokes with a very strange hobby. they published great long pro-bonaparte screeds (liberator of europe, weird waterloo alt-histories, etc.) around the 1980s.

Well Trotsky was considered insufferably smug by his comrades and that's the main reason why he never had a chance in the power struggles, so he would think of them as unflattering caricatures even if they were 95% faithful.

The SWP in England had a very very bad rape scandal a few years ago. Lead to a schism (led by China Mieville of all people lol) and all kinds of nastiness. Lots of women were treated appalingly.

It's a shame, because in the 80s the party was at the forefront of the fight against the fascist National Front. There was lots of street fighting and the nazis were driven underground. Lots of good work was done. At least for a while - that fascism has now metastised and is arguably in the corridors of power. gently caress this island hellhole

I knew SWP vets growing up and they were good folks. they left the party before all that poo poo blew up. You still see literature and stickers around east london occasionally (there's strong solidarity between immigrant communities the left there. See: cable street) but they've mostly crawled back into their holes and are told to gently caress off at protests now.

Trotskyism was basically the strongest leftist current in the UK for a time and it was ok.

I reckon that all movements that stop being broad fronts and are cliquey and weird end up operating like cults basically

e: and cult leaders are mostly rapist scumbags, apart from that guy vissarion who seems chill
