If someone wants the perfect resource to understand the essence of Maoism-Third Worldism in one essay, now's your chance:

I pity the amerikkkan petty bourgeoisie of SA who think they can be re-proletarianized rather than that socialism can only come to amerikkka through white genocide.

To the extent that it's a coherent ideology at all, it's nationalism with Chinese characteristics. But sometimes it inspires people to form slavery cults. That cult in particular was a remnant of maoist groups from the 70s, when maoism was popular in leftist circles in the West for a while following the Cultural Revolution and the Vietnam war. Anyone in the West claiming to be a maoist on the internet today is almost certainly a meme ideologist who's had to reinvent what that even means. In China it has evolved into turbo-nationalism very similar to the far right in the West, especially considering the emphasis they both put on culture, and internet trolling. That might seem ironic but recall that maoism was always a populist nationalist movement first and foremost. That it has been considered an extreme left ideology says more about the people calling it such (like the CCP which insists it's banning unions and strikes for entirely leftist reasons, or capitalist apologist saying "yep this is definitely the end game of the left"), and perhaps that whole scale.
- Sincerely, a person who definitely knows what they're talking about

On that topic, my favorite historical maoist cult is the United Red Army in Japan:

quote:

The United Red Army had 29 members and lost 14 by killing them in less than a year. Most were members of the New Left.

Early in August, two defectors were lynched and their bodies buried in Inba numa marsh, Chiba Prefecture. In the winter of 1971–1972 the United Red Army was hiding in the mountains in Gunma Prefecture. They established camps and trained for military purposes. The leaders of the United Red Army encouraged their fighters to examine their weaknesses in criticism and self-criticism, and these sessions turned into lynchings. The group purged itself one by one of members deemed not sufficiently revolutionary. Many of the twelve victims died tied to posts in the open, exposed to the elements, but others were beaten to death or slaughtered with knives. The first died on 31 December and the last on 12 February. The United Red Army leaders later did not admit that they had killed, but called it death by defeatism (敗北死 Haiboku shi).

I wonder what Trotsky would think of the people named after him. Like, is there really any ideological overlap at all, or are Trotskyists just people who have decided that if Trotsky had had Stalin's power, he'd have createe a utopia where they were allowed to have underage sex slaves?

Well Trotsky was considered insufferably smug by his comrades and that's the main reason why he never had a chance in the power struggles, so he would think of them as unflattering caricatures even if they were 95% faithful.

What's the trot sex cult you're referring to?

Helps that they had the US backing them to the hilt to stick it to China so they wouldn't just get couped

Excuse me, I think you meant the US backing China to help liberate the mainland from communist rebel bands.
